Bob was wonderful. He responded to my message promptly and came the same day. He diagnosed and repaired my furnace issue and had the heat back up and running in no time. He is my new go to for heating and air conditioning. I would not hesitate to recommend him and look forward to being able to refer to others to him.

Robert was great. He got our thermostat for our heated floors changed. He was extremely knowledgeable and definitely worth the price, which we thought was low and gave him extra. We also hired him for next weekend to hang pictures, one of which is over a staircase. Glad I found a "Home Medic" for our needs. Thanks Robert.

I needed to replace my old water heater that stopped heating my water. I put in a request and Mike responded within minutes with recommendations. He was really patient and professional when, after we realized we purchased the wrong new water heater, he helped us exchange it for the right one and took more time out of his busy day to stay and finish the job. I'll definitely be keeping him on call if I have any more plumbing issues in the future! And, his prices are very reasonable; no hidden or surprise fees. Mike is a great guy, an honest professional who's great to work with. Glad we chose his quote.

Came over to fix a mystery water pump issue that several plumbers hadn’t been able to identify, identified the issue very quickly after deep-diving into the pump’s manual (air in the pump), and fixed it right there on the spot.

Comfort Aire ( Ron ) came out to our home after I was told from 2 different companies that our heat changer was cracked & this was the reason the furnace wouldn't stay on for more than 5 or 6 minutes... Ron came & did some testing.. & said it was unlikely for a furnace of 12years old to have a cracked changer....took Ron 10 minutes of investigation & what he found was a birds nest in the main chimney line.. We cleaned it ok out & got a chimney cap from Homedepot.... PROBLEM SOLVED.. thanks to this honest guy for a $200.00 fix opposed to a $2,300.00 furnace.. CALL & HIRE THIS GUY, HE KNOWS HIS STUFF & HE IS HONEST THANK YOU SIR"

Our heat wasn't working and TDH sent Rolando out first thing to fix it. Orlando was on time, professional, and fixed our furnace quickly. He left everything neat & clean, and told me what to do to avoid the problem in the future.

Dion installed a bathroom exhaust fan and also ran some furnace diagnostics for the issue of uneven heat distribution inside my apartment. He was very courteous to my apartment and very professional. He even went all the way to the store to purchase a new ladder just for my bathroom fan installation project. Although the project took a little longer than I expected, Dion came back and finished it the next day. My furnace problem turns out having a simple fix. Dion even told me I could fix it myself without hiring a professional. Overall Dion did a good job and I am impressed by his dedication and honesty. I would hire him again for any future furnace jobs.

Vitaliy was great! He came out for a quote the same day I contacted him and the job was done just a few days later. We're very happy with our new central air conditioning. It works well! Vitaliy upgraded both the unit and a pump free of charge because of our home's unique quirks. I would definitely recommend him! Thank you, Vitaliy!

After receiving multiple quotes on a new furnace and a/c, Bobby, was by far the best quote ( about 40% less than most) . Not only did he show up when he said he would, he worked around the clock to ensure we would have heat before the temperatures dropped that evening. His work ethic is outstanding. He kept us informed about what he was doing throughout the process, made sure everything was up and running, before he left, and even contacted us a week later to make sure we had no issues or concerns. I was so pleased with his service, I recommended him to friends. Each one sang his praises and said they would call on him again if needed, and recommend him as well.

Amazing! I contacted Comfort Measure because my furnace was making a very loud screeching sound. Prior to contacting Comfort Measure, I contacted a larger heating and air company in the area. The other company gave me a 4 hour time window, did nothing to diagnose or fix the problem, and still left me with a bill. John with Comfort Measure arrived at my residence right on time, was very professional, and definitely showed to be more helpful than the other company. I will be recommending Comfort Measure to my friends and family. I will be contacting Comfort Measure for all of my future heating and air needs. I'm very happy that I found them!

The repair Technician, Miguel Vargas, responded to my call for water heater repair on a Sunday and was able to get the water heater functioning in the interim period while the part that needed to be replaced was on order. They turned this around in 24 hours and my water heater was fully repaired. Miguel was friendly and explained the issue fully to me. The pricing was fair and the work was done expeditiously. I would highly recommend him and All-4Climates, for Heating, Cooling and Water Heater issues.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

    • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
    • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
    • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
    • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
    • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
    • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
    • Cleaning and oiling the blower
    • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
    • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
    • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

    • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
      • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
    • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
    • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
    • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
