Our daughter (Kivi) started with the recorder in 4th grade, and soon graduated to clarinet. By Middle School, she was taking lessons from a classical teacher who advanced her skills markedly. Upon reaching high school, she was in demand by the jazz band - whose leader persuaded her to take up the saxophone. Kivi loved the sax, and loved jazz, but clarinet remained her first instrument. I thought of the great jazz clarinet players: Pete Fountain at the top of a substantial list. But we could find no one who could teach jazz clarinet. Finally, we attended an event at VanderCook, and one of the presenters gave us Jon's name. Kivi studied with Jon for about two years. I was disappointed with the amount of time Kivi had to spend practicing Jon's lessons - what high schooler has time for anything? Nevertheless, Kivi learned a great deal from Jon, and was the only student to ever perform a clarinet solo in our high school's jazz band history ("Jack the Bear"). Jon was unique in my experience in that he taught what Kivi wanted to learn - rather than imposing a rigid course of instruction. If you are considering private lessons that offer something both valuable and unique, please look no further than Jon Novi.

We hired Tom after finding him on Thumbtack, from the initial introduction he was kind, helpful and understanding. We hired him to play guitar for our wedding which was outdoors. We asked him to play while our guests arrived and also after the ceremony while our guests we leaving. He listened to everything we needed and provided that and more! He was very intuitive while playing and had the music going in all the right moment. We are incredible happy we choose Tom and thankful for his presence at our wedding.

Jerry and the trio were a perfect fit for our event. They provided excellent music and adjusted their volume to the room perfectly. I would highly recommend the trio to anyone looking for solid jazz musicians! Our cocktail party was a huge success and I know Jerry and the gang played a huge role in this. Thanks again guys!

Dollar for dollar, hiring The Band Sundance was the best decision we made in our wedding budget. The band gave us a great experience from beginning to end. We had numerous guests say we had the best or one of the best receptions they have ever attended because of the music and our dancing (obviously aided by the music). They kept asking where I found them and how much I must have paid to book them. As great as the band was, they did not detract from us as a couple. Jim and the band planned everything to cater to us. They provided a DJ for the breaks, and a few songs we wanted outside of their repertoire were played on break. They even let me sit in for a song. I found them through this site, and did a lot of other research on them before booking. We wanted a band who could provide the 1940s big band sound for swing dancing and also play contemporary rock, pop, and country with everything in between (50s, Elvis, 80s, polkas, waltzes, etc.). Moreover, we wanted a band who played both “In the Mood”and “Uptown Funk” well. Hard to find, huh? Well, here they are. They read the crowd well and knew what songs to play to keep people excited and on the dance floor. They have a full sound with keyboards, drum set, lead guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, sax, and vocals, and they blended very well as a ensemble. They helped give our reception such an amazing energy. This praise might seem effusive from anyone who has not seen them, but you cannot go wrong with these guys.

Artist collective is a very professional business that has the musician in their best interest. I personally have worked with them and it was so nice to have them take care of the "business" end, so I could concentrate on the creative end with my band. AC set us up with a photo/video shoot and it was a success! Highly recommended by us!!

Nick and his mate, Sam showed up on time....ready to work and continued to play three sets during a three hour period. This is my first time hiring a band for my personal party and I could not have worked with a better pair. I will definitely use him again. Well worth the money. Nice guys and open to my inexperienced suggestions. Lol! And I haven't even mention the quality of their music (jazz) was outstanding. They were the hit and highlight of the party.

The EcoLimes are great musicians. They have a fun sound with lots of interesting mash-ups of popular songs. They were easy to book, showed up on time and took care of their own set-up and tear-down. They took longer breaks than agreed upon.

Loved the Jeff Alterio Band! Jeff is well versed in our favorite rock guitar classics, they expertly executed Stevie Ray, Stones, Eagles, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Skynard, Muddy Waters & Hooker in that jamming guitar style you remember from the greats. They do not disappoint! These guys are fun & very talented musicians. Hope to have them play again soon. I'm sure they'll just get better over time, Now I'd like hear a little more of his original work Trash Opera.

Two of my sons took piano lessons from Miss Linda when they were 5-6 and 7-9 years old. Both boys are very different (personality, work ethic, temperament, talent) from one another, but Linda was able to encourage the push them to achieve a level of musical appreciation and performance that has helped both excel in the orchestra and band instruments they have taken up now they are older. A very talented musician herself, Linda also 'gets' kids and has a gentle way of instruction that encourages children to want to practice and improve each week. Highly recommend Linda!

My daughter, Piper, started her 1st music lessons with Miss Jessica at age 7. She laid the foundation for love of music which continues to this day. Her thoughtful lessons designed to suit Piper's ability, made learning fun and easy. Her uncanny patience brought them through periods when faced with greater music challenges. I appreciated her approachable demeaner and willingness to keep an open dialogue. Piper passed from piano to French horn in 5th grade when school band was offered. With the benefit of lessons from Miss Jessica, it made for a smooth transition. Thanks for 4 great years! Kate (Piper's mom)

Covering a range of jukebox favorites from the 1970’s to present day, The Big Eagle Band sets its sights on recreating what is in your establishment’s jukebox, live on stage. The Big Eagle Band features John Beniacs on bass and vocals, Matt Stone on guitar and vocals, Mark Sibincic on drums and Phil Valenti on guitar. With everyone’s prior experience, it was a matter of weeks before the band was armed and ready to bring its show to the masses. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
