Mark's service was amazing. He came to my place of work and picked up the cabinet doors which I wanted the center cut out for glass. He delivered them back to my place of work the same day. Thank you much, Mark.

Walt made open shelf cabinets, hung 20 shelves, and installed beadboard for my office. He was quick to reply to all communications, professional and always on time. We made a few adjustments to the projects and he was very accommodating and willing to change things. Overall a great job at a reasonable rate, with the work done by a super friendly guy. I would definitely recommend him.

Ok let's start by the first phone call with Andriy, spoke to him about installing our ikea cabinets for our kitchen. His price was high so I started to negotiate for a lower price and, there was no way he would go down in price! Well later on I would find out why. So my wife and I decided to do it with him. So he asked us when do we need it done, and we said start within 2-3, he some how fit us in. Well so far we had a nightmare with our other project with other contractors who say they would show up and no call no show, but With him when he said he will be there at 8:30am him and his partner will be at your door at that time. So right away we felt relief that after a dark storm of contractors canceling appointments to no show, Andriy and his partner was a sunshine from the storm. Right away lay down fabric material to protect our wood from scratches, and super organized there tools to begin work. When I say super organized this guys has bolt sizes and stews in its department and so clean so what ever they needed it would be so easy to access. So as they begin they take there time to measure and configure to begin assembling. Not only what they put together is sturdy and strong, even ikea kitchen. So when they finnish for the day they clean up all the mess and put everything in order for the next day. So this was everyday till they finished the job. We felt so comfortable leaving them at our home with no worries when we are out running around. This guys are so professional and friendly. So now we realize why the price is the way it was. They are worth every penny! Like they say you get what you pay for., but in that said they are still affordable. We paid cheap for our other contractors and now we are living in nightmare with our other projects, we wish Andriy and his partner could have done our whole job and we would feel so relief. But they always say we specialize only in custom cabinet making and install, now We know why everything they did was amazing! Would you go to a restaurant that say everything kind of foods they specialize in! NO if you want good Italian you go to an Italian restaurant. Not a buffet place that has everything. Well with all that said this guys were amazing and wish more contractors would be like them, and we all know we can only wish that. Some tips for others who want to hire them. PAY THEIR PRICE ITS WORTH IT! and you will feel confident that the job will be done more than perfect. If any potential people interested in hiring the you can email me for info on my wife and I experience and pics of there job they did for us. Jacobmortera@me.com We call them batman & robin of custom kitchen and installation Thanks guys! For a job well done.

Eddie has done a great job. He has been wildly responsive to concerns, and the end result looks great. He laid tile, built a custom cabinet in a tricky location, and then trimmed out my cabinets to look like they were customized all along. We came up with innovative solutions for the cabinet above my refrigerator, so the new, taller fridge fit AND my cabinet doors open freely. It is a brilliant solution you'll have to ask him about.

These guys do exceptional work! They painted the rooms in our house and they did such a good job that we hired them to paint our kitchen. The cabinets are beautiful and look brand new. We will continue to hire this father/son duo to do many projects around our house including exterior paint, repairing drywall and odd jobs. They were punctual and very easy to work with. I highly recommend hiring the Chwalek team!

Couldn't be more pleased with the entire process and end result. They built us a custom standing kitchen island, makeup vanity disk that matches the existing cabinetry and brand new fireplace mantel. Incredibly well priced, creative, communicative and went above and beyond to ensure the designs and work matched my initial vision. They matched existing paint colors and stains, created custom doors to match existing cabinet doors and even came by to show mockups before installation. I wouldn't even bother with looking at other companies -- K Cabinet is the only choice.

Dan designed a custom china cabinet for our Downtown Chicago condominium. He was able to turn my dream sketch into a reality. We are beyond happy with our cabinets, as they have transformed our space. Dan oversaw the installation and was resilient in having everything in exact position--a God-send for a perfectionist like myself. Most noteworthy, however, is the enthusiasm Dan shares with his clients. We truly feel that Dan has become a part of our family and are just itching to find a new project for him to takeover!

I hired them to paint our oak cabinet door and drawer fronts only. The finish looks OK except there are several minor defects including drilled holes in the top of the doors which are visible and a few little dings on the cabinet faces. We now need to do a little touch up ourselves to correct these minor defects. However, his price was SIGNIFICANTLY better than any of the other bids we got and so for that reason I still give him a B+. If you are a perfectionist, you might want to pay the extra money to get a defect-free end product.

My wife and I bought a house that was a bit of a fixer-upper in Chicago. The built-in hutch was showing a lot of wear in the finish, and the original wood work in the kitchen and dining room were looking pretty dismal. We were recommended Fay Furniture by some friends after they had worked with them to completely refinish all of the wood in their home. Within a day of calling to set up an appointment, the Fays were at our home looking at the wood and discussing possibilities with us. We had some ideas about the color we were looking for (a darker espresso that still showed the wood grain - it matched our furniture) and they were off. It seemed like a huge job, but they were finished within three weeks. That's all the trim around the floors and ceiling, the hutch, and the kitchen cabinets. The level of detail was simply amazing - the color of all of the refinished wood in both rooms matches perfectly with our furniture, and they were absolute perfectionists when it came to making sure we were satisfied customers. So what else can I say? Being a small, family-run business, they were extremely attentive to our needs, gave us an amazing price ($150 less than the nearest of 3 quotes), and left us with a beautiful home. They have made customers for life!

He is a former house inspector. This is an extremely valuable perspective when you consider making changes to your home. He is thoughtful and measured. He completed several extensive projects in my home: replacing wood flooring in my entranceway with tile, refacing my fireplace surround where he demolished existing large boulder stones and replaced with sleek flat tile and even suggested I lower the hearth to the floor for a more modern look. He shrunk the footprint of an oversized kitchen island that involved moving cabinetry and plumbing and preparing the base for a new top and he helped me redo my powder room and replaced my '80s mirrored cabinet fronts with custom stained wood. I am happy and very pleased with the work he has done on my home. He made a number of suggestions about how to maintain my home going forward. I appreciated this expertise.

Nick, We would like to thank you and your entire team for the great job you did on our kitchen project. Starting with Alan helping us navigate through the overall kitchen design and canbinet and countertop selection, through all the modifications we requested on our first floor to the final cabinet installation. You electricians, plumber, trim carpenter, drywall crew and tile crew all did a great job, not to mention your hardwood floor guys. When we first contacted you we had no idea that you offered all these services. We made some changes during the project and you still completed everything when you said you would and at the price you quoted. What a great job, we could not be happier. Thanks again Mike and Aldona Rogers

Stonehenge contractors do terrific work for a very reasonable rate. Rory James & his team perform in a professional manner and their work is 1st class. They did a kitchen/breakfast room remodel for us that first involved the demo (removing all the old tile and cabinets), and then installed new tile, cabinets, dishwasher, some plumbing rework for a multiple sink design and then face brickwork installation behind our industrial kitchen stove. The job turned out better than we imagined and in less time than expected. Rory also installed a temporary kitchen counter-top and small sink so we have a functional kitchen until the granite counter-tops come in a few weeks. At that time Rory will come back to hook up the permanent sinks and install the back-splash tile. We will definitely use Stonehenge again when we remodel the master bathroom and also recommend them to anyone that is doing any type of home remodel/improvement project. John & Bonnie C. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
