Jesse sealed several driveways in my neighborhood. I saw him day after day showing up at daybreak to seal various neighbors driveways and working until dark---job after job. I engaged Jesse to seal my driveway--very reasonably priced. He showed up on time and completed the job in the amount of time he had promised. Secondly, he returned the next day to verify with me that I was satisfied with the work. He pointed out a couple of spots that needed to be touched up and did the touch ups as promised. Hard working and honest man. Would definitely use his driveway service and repair service again. A pleasure to do business with.

Nice work and reliable. He power-washed the deck, repaired a wrought iron fence, washed a high window, and some miscellaneous yard work. Work was done well.

I hired Chad to disassemble some bunk beds, assemble 2 loft beds, and move some furniture inside my home. He was prompt and courteous, and worked very efficiently. The assembly project was more difficult than he anticipated, but he made sure to update me on status in order to remain true to his quote. I was pleased with his professionalism and with the end result.

Myron runs a tight ship. The job we hired him for was some drywall repair but after reading reviews and meeting with him I asked if he could do several other things so we could list our house. The answer was always, yeah we can do that. I never got the feeling he was trying to pad anything, he gave me honest feedback that a home buyer would and likely wouldn't care about. When it came time to do the work, he made sure his guys were always on time, they were professional, and very clean. This job was pretty big so the attention to the little details was nice. They had to come back out a couple of times to clean up some small things as drywall set but Myron never once complained and simply got it done. My ceiling looks better than it ever has. Ball Homes should hire him for the drywall work, their original drywallers clearly don't know how to take care of smooth ceilings like Myron's team does!

Gary and his crew were great to work with, easy to get in contact with and very quick to get the job done. He is also very affordable and we plan to hire him to replace a roof on another property we own too. Highly recommend for anyone needing a roof or repairs that isn't a millionaire

Mike and his team (joined by his wife and son) arrived on schedule, reviewed the project and came up with a solid plan. He thereafter gathered materials and built "from scratch" a magnificent door and frame to cover a utility area which previously was blocked violated local codes. You would never know that door wasn't there--beautiful job, flawless in appearance.

Added a roof to our existing deck, framed it added shingles, vinyl to the underside with new soffit and trim. We were so pleased at how nice it looked, we had him to add the vinyl railing to match the look on the front of the house. We also had a "man door" cut out, framed and door installed. Shawn and his crew were very professional, easy to work with, performed precise quality work, Always on time and worked longer hours to get the job completed in a timely manner. Will definitely give them a call for our next construction project needs...

I had three windows with broken glass. One of the windows also had a broken glazing stop (trim piece). Before agreeing to the job I was told that the trim piece could be repaired too and that it was included in the quote. He did an excellent job on glass replacement. However, the trim piece was not replaced, and I was told he couldn't find anything suitable. Now I might need to replace the whole window - making the original repair meaningless for that window.

Eric showed up on time and replaced the flooring in our bathroom. He had to remove and replace the toilet in order to lay the vinyl. The following morning (Sunday) there was a little water around the base of the toilet. We contacted Eric and he came right out and replaced the inlet pipe. That afternoon we noticed water again and Eric came out again and replaced the wax ring with a double wax ring and new hold-down nut. Now all looks good and we are very pleased with his work and his responsiveness to the problem. In spite of these issues, we would definitely hire him again and I have recommended him to a friend who needs a little handy-work around her house. He was easy to work with and very courteous and friendly.

Kenny is a true professional with a very easy style. He found and coordinated the replacement of off sized patio doors and windows to replace our old compromised original units. His crew finished everything to above our expectations and I would highly recommend his services to everybody. His expertise far exceeds our job and I would encourage anyone to take advantage of his talents.

I am grateful to have found SRE Construction. My dining room renovation project began with a couple of cans of paint, a scraper, and a profound lack of appreciation of the difficulties of removing decades of paint from beadboard and the casing of a window. I could not be more pleased with how SRE Construction took my bad start and turned it into a beautiful room with finishing touches appropriate for the age and style of my home while working around walls and a floor that are best described as straight-ish. I have a window I no longer have to hide behind drapery, a beautiful window seat I will enjoy for many years, and the feeling of stepping into a jewel box of a room with the crown molding, chair rail, and baseboard. Thank you for your hard work on a wretchedly cold day!

I needed my ceiling fixed along one whole wall. A window in the bathroom scrapped caulked and painted and a sink and faucet replaced and a non-working light fixture replaced. Trevor with 360 Home Solutions was wonderful. Not only did he advice me on what supplies I needed, He was very accommodating when he realized that I had bought the wrong sink that would totally revamp the plumbing underneath the kitchen counter. Though the above mentioned are things that are expected from a professional, what separates 360 Home Solutions from the rest is that they were very honest and professional with me even at times when I lost my cool. While they are not the cheapest professionals at thumbtack they still saved me money by fixing my existing light fixture free of charge and by keeping me from doing a lot of unnecessary expensive plumbing. They also went the extra mile to purchase the supplies and pick them up at no extra charge! Rita Alanoner

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
