Julio and Ray were awesome. I had a difficult situation with other movers after they did not show up on time. and they were great at helping me out at the last minute. They were super hardworking and fast and I was impressed by how quickly they were able to move everything down my stairs. They also had a difficult situation with the freight elevator because my building I was moving into was going to close the freight elevator before they were done, but they improvised and got everything up super quickly. They were very kind and super efficient. I don't know what I would have done without their help!!!!! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Great!!! They showed up on time and called when they were 15 mins out. They loaded up everything and took care with the furniture. They unloaded and reassembled my bed and kitchen table. Also the owner help set up my TV. Great experience. I would recommend them to anyone in the Chicagoland Area for moving.

Alliance was the best moving company we have ever had by a long shot. They showed up early had us walk them through all of our stuff and got right to work. We had a 3 man crew consisting of Artuo A, Felix H, and Omesimo. MY wife and I were shocked as to how fast they were moving. We were quoted at 5 hours, which sounded about right, and they got the job done in under 4 hours. Every single box and piece of furniture was damage-free. We will be using Alliance again in the future and will be recommending them to anyone we know looking for movers. The workers were also very nice, courteous, clean, and went above and beyond. Side note: If you are moving in Cook County and have the moving company get the no parking signs make sure you call 311 to make sure the city puts them up.

The team was efficent, fast and professional in handling our move. They offered a fair reimbursement for the item that got broken during the move. Overall was good, just in the end, there was some discrepancies between what the owner said with what the crew leader said. The owner called me in the next day to resolve and clarify the matter. Next time maybe they need to make sure everyone in the same page (including the crew, customer and owner). Suggestion : if you tell a customer, if the jobl

They handled all of or pre-packed boxes and all our furniture with care. We have some exspensive pieces and had a negative experience with a previous move/moving company, so it was refreshing to have a good experience. There was great communication throughout, and did an excellent job fitting everything into our storage unit. The only problem, was we planned to pay by credit card. We were told by the office that was fine a few days in advance, and that there would be a 3% charge, which we were ok with. The head mover told us this was fine when he arrived, then proceeded to have us fill out the paperwork. At the end of the move he then came to us and said he couldn't get ahold of the office and we'd have to pay by cash. He said if we didn't pay by cash we'd have to wait endlessly to hear back from the office. We didn't believe what he was saying, but obliged because we were on a time constraint. We felt a little scammed and are now unsure if we will use them again when we complete the second part of our move this summer. We'd probably require written communication from them, that we will exclusively pay by card and there will not be any other options the day of.

Moving between states was not ease because of the nature of my move. It was a 4 bedroom apartment move and I had plenty of fragile, delicate and vulnerable stuff. I had to look for the best and I did search for the best and finally decided on Pick Up Movers. They did better than what I was anticipating. They arrived on time, packed the entire house, loaded and moved everything without any damage and made sure they beat the deadline. Nothing went wrong which might have caused an issue. Highly recommended moving company. It was very successful move given the time constraints.

We hired STI Long Distance Moving two days before we moved from Chicago to Dallas and Nick was so accommodating in getting the last minute request worked out. He was upfront about all the charges and the estimate was accurate and no surprise fees. Oscar and his crew in Chicago did a fantastic job packing and making sure everything was wrapped up and protected. Adam and his crew arrived in Dallas four days later and were great unloading and took the time to go through the entire inventory list to make sure we had everything. Would definitely recommend STI!

Laura was awesome! I had a touch and go situation with when I'd actually be able to move and she accommodated me with every change I had to make. I would encourage an in home estimate if possible for a more accurate estimate. I was on a third floor with winding staircase and a long gang way to the moving truck which added an extra hour. Not bad at all. The men that did the move worked steadily and improvised where needed for larger heavy items. I would highly recommend having some bottled water available for the movers. It's hard work! All in all I was very satisfied with the move.

We were moving a two bedroom from one third-floor apartment to another third-floor apartment, and these guys were incredible. Efficient and quick but also VERY careful and clearly conscious of the fact that they were holding important pieces of our lives in their hands. 10/10 will recommend to everyone I meet for the next several weeks.

Good price, quick, and very personable and professional! Rob is leaps and bounds better than other major moving companies I’ve hired. He’s affordable and extremely professional. They make sure all your stuff is moved carefully and nothing gets damaged. They go above and beyond to give the best service. They finished moving me in early and offered to help us move into our storage unit as well. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Very nice people, nice company, reliable. Go for it. I went with a dedicated truck option and I don’t regret it. Never used a moving company in the states, only when I move here from France. I highly recommend. Both, they were so charming and helpful, as they transformed a “scary moving” in a smooth operation… Perfect move !

I needed to transfer a few items from storage to my home, and Netza and his partner were very careful with my furniture. They wrapped my stuff up with a moving blanket and gently secured it inside their truck. They were also very patient and polite while I figured out how to best arrange my rooms.

I was totally unprepared for moving day, and these guys made it all seem so easy. A quick call to let me know they were on their way and a brief friendly run-through of the paperwork when they got to my house got us off on the right foot. The workers got right down to business wrapping the big stuff with moving blankets. We were impressed with how quick and carefully they moved, and that they smiled through the whole day, as if it was easy to move out heavy stuff to a 2nd floor walk up on a hot Chicago day. Great value for the quality of work and we will definitely use them next time we move. They saved my husband’s back and my sanity.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
