I have been a writer and editor for over 30 years, focusing mostly on communications, PR, and public affairs in the public broadcasting sector. I do work that I find interesting, such as web copy, book editing, and general writing. I write and edit articles and other works on topics I find extremely compelling, such as the history of espionage, and ones on which I have deep-dive knowledge, including classical music and opera, K-12 education and policy, and American social history and fine arts. Recent Thumbtack projects include a business plan, several speeches, five doctoral dissertations, two novels (one has recently been accepted for publication), and two memoirs. I have done a considerable amount of academic editing, and for six years, served as the assistant English-language editor of the Russian Language Journal, published by the American Council of Teachers of Russian. I have also written and edited annual reports, speeches, talking points, dissertations, and other works, focusing on clarity and accuracy. Most recently, I edited "The Long Process of Development: Building Markets and States in Pre-Industrial England, Spain and Their Colonies," by Jerry F. Hough and Robin Grier (Cambridge University Press), and as a contractor for Ideopia, a hybrid media agency, I wrote product descriptions, SEO, and meta for two websites. The site for Bell Ophthalmic won a Silver Aster Award in July 2015 for its new website/interactive writing. I also have among my clients several Washington, DC embassies and nonprofit organizations. I'm highly proficient in several style sheets, including Chicago Manual of Style, AP Stylebook, AMA Manual of Style, and MLA. I am also a novelist and poet, so can promise a lot of creativity in any assignment, as well. Above all, my goal is to make your work as elegant and finely tuned as possible; your words telling precisely the story you want to share.
As an academic life coach, I help students from middle school through college improve their academic performance. My coaching has a few things in common with those who coach soccer or football teams. Like these coaches, I know how to help students accomplish their best because I focus on inspiring and facilitating the process of change. Using evidence-based strategies that are proven effective by research, I support students in understanding how to navigate school, exercise personal leadership, and be more proactive in their lives. I also specialize in academic writing and support students with powerful evidence-based writing strategies that enable them to conquer the writing block and get the writing done. I individualize coaching based on the immediate circumstances the student is facing. As a result, students begin to make changes in habits and learn valuable strategies that they can apply in all areas of their lives. Students learn how to set goals that are broken down into manageable action steps and have to act on them as coaching incorporates accountability into their daily habits and lives. At the same time, students are learning valuable life skills, they also have the opportunity to work through old and unproductive habits. When students identify their unique learning and motivation style, they become less stressed over grades and their performance. When students become more aware of how success in school is correlated to developing a system that works, their stress level decreases as their grades improve!
As a writer, researcher, designer, chef, and entrepreneur, with a rare gift of vision and attention to detail, I have successfully provided valuable need assessments and solutions -- through analysis, synthesis, oral and written communication, instrument design, contract negotiation, project management, client services, and event planning-- for condo associations, pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, restaurants, Silicon Valley manufacturers, property management companies, nonprofit advocacy organizations, and institutions of higher learning, to name a few. Through Renaissance Tailored Solutions Consulting, I weave my academic achievement as a Howard University School of Communications and Stanford Law School graduate with my diverse business acumen to bring a cornucopia of custom-built solutions to meet your specific needs ... easily within your budget. The U.S. State Department, Digital Link Corporation, Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Brokerage Company, Aeras, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, The Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Capitol Concierge, BOMA, California Lawyers for the Arts, Stanford Law School Office of Career Services, Congressional Motors, and the National Black Media Coalition are just a few of the entities that have benefited from the breadth of my "renaissance" skill set.

My passion for teaching and tutoring comes from my own experiences as someone who often seeks support and individually tailored instruction. As a magna cum laude graduate and as someone who has been recognized across various disciplines, I know hard work can pay off! As a creative professional, I know everyone has their own method of learning and understanding. I believe in self-discipline, creativity, and commitment and in collaboratively creating spaces of connection, support, and learning. I have extensive experience as an English tutor, with a focus on reading, analysis, creative writing, essay writing, and editing. I have also taught ESOL for many years. Courses I have taught range from very basic English language acquisition to public speaking and pronunciation to much more advanced and academic English conversation, writing, and reading. Additionally, I am a theater professional, with performance credits ranging over 20 world premieres. I am very well versed in classic and contemporary drama, and I have considerable experience with script analysis, scene study, monologue prep as well as an expertise in immersive and interactive theater. I like to provide challenging sessions for my students, but I also like to ensure that lessons are not overwhelming. I give regular homework assignments, and I ask for routine feedback. I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but I also try to be adaptable, and I will always offer makeup lessons.

Sharea Harris is a creative communicator. Her favorite creative form is the poem, but her occupation as a Facebook status ranter may be picking up speed. While a creative writer at heart, she understands that writing is best enjoyed when it first serves one's basic needs. As consequence, Sharea enjoys helping people attain the benefits of communication, composition, and language through academic classroom instruction, workshop facilitation, and writing consultation. Sharea's clocked over 300 hours as a writing consultant at the University of Baltimore; at least 100 were as a CRLA level-one certified tutor. She enjoys working with private clients on projects ranging from one-man shows to college admission essays.

As a published writer and editor, for more than 25 years I have been helping clients who seek clarity, organization, compelling substance and/or to find their own voice. This includes editing short-to-long documents from brochures, essays or short papers to longer reports and books for individuals or largely non-profit organizations. I enjoy translating academic and technical or challenging material into accurate and user-friendly narrative, and have many times been asked to 'rescue', rewrite and enliven rambling, unfocused materials. I look forward to give and take with the writer to help reach mutual understanding and focus on the goals. I have published six books of my own from major publishers as well as numerous articles brochures to long reports and proposals, and teaching. My editing, of course, includes copyediting, which includes grammar, punctuation, good English and all requirements for an acceptable final draft. I look forward to talking with you and the discovery that my skills and services will meet your needs.

Client satisfaction is important to me, and I have maintained a track record of delivering quality work. In September 2015, I was honored with Thumbtack's "Best of 2015" Award.
