Private Dance Lessons

Hi, I go by Jerry. Let’s dance! I started taking salsa and later bachata lessons in the summer of 2014 and felt in love instantly. The rhythms of latin dance music has activated my desire to groove naturally and I want to share that experience and my knowledge in the craft with you, and focus on improving your social dancing experience. As a result of dancing consistently and taking hundreds of classes, I was invited to teach the beginner salsa class at a premier latin dance social, called Mr Mambos, in the early 2018. I have really enjoyed doing so as a serious hobby, and I believe anybody can learn salsa and bachata, as long as you approach it step by step and develop proper habits and techniques. So take a step forward and reach out to me if you want to learn more about latin dancing. I really hope you will also become a dance nerd like me and have so much fun along the journey!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do you wear to swing dance lessons?

Swing dance is an increasingly popular style of ballroom dance with a dress code that reflects its roots in the 1920s-1940s jazz era. Although many studios don’t require historically accurate costumes for their private dance lessons, many dancers want to dress the part. You can wear clothes that are comfortable to move — and sweat — in, such as T-shirts and loose skirts or khakis. Or for an appropriately vintage look, women often wear shirt dresses with a knee-length A-line or circle skirt that allows for plenty of swishy movement. Men usually opt for a button-down shirt and trousers. The most important part of a swing dance outfit is the shoes. Both men and women can opt for simple sneakers, like Keds, or leather dance shoes, such as saddle shoes. Until you have several dance lessons under your belt, stay away from heels.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
