However, I still had difficulty expressing myself at the level of a native American speaker, especially when it came to my accent. During eight months in Prof. Alex’s American Accent program, I made incredible progress. The mechanical training of sounds, intonation, and accent patterns was very important and helped me understand how to position my tongue and produce the correct sounds. This technical part of the training built a strong foundation for my accent development. But what made this program truly unique was Prof. Alex’s knowledge of psychology and psycholinguistics. Whenever I felt that a sound was not good enough, or when I could not clearly hear or feel the difference, he guided me through reflection.
