From beginning till the end, Elmo showed excellent professionalism. I felt comfortable and trust with him from the first time I met him. He went beyond, and even went and saw the venue before the event to familiarize with the venue. He deserves 10 stars. He even did video of the event! I will use his services again. Please use his services. You will not be disappointed. I am very happy with Elmo. Thank you Elmo for making us feel special.

We hired Dynamic Reel Productions for a veteran's eulogy event and Ilya was very helpful, polite, and respectful. Most of our communication was done via email and we were satisfied with the over all results. I would hire them again if needed.

Working with DIM Productions was phenomenal. Coordinating beforehand was simple and straightforward, and during our event they were very accommodating and flexible to our specific requests and needs. They provided our pictures and video quickly after the event, and all the pictures turned out great. We are proudly sharing with friends and family. They also had video at our event, for which they provided an edited cut that captured everything that happened during our day. They even enhanced it in a few ways that we didn't see coming, and so we were appreciative of that. Overall, we had a tremendous experience and recommend DIM Productions to anyone and everyone. Very, very pleased!

Malcholm did a great job for our event. He was very professional and finished our video faster than he had promised. The quality was beyond what we expected, it wasn't cheesy at all. I thought we were watching a real movie not just a video of our event!!!!

Gabriel “Gabe” Martinez (The Marvelous Real Photography) works very hard for his shots. The lengths he goes to for his pictures, he not only wants them to be the best, but wants to meet his clients’ expectations. Both me and my guests was very impressed with him. After seeing Gabe's photo gallery and discussing my 50th birthday celebration vision with him, I immediately knew he was the one! As requested, he integrated videography to capture the music performances to retain with my event memoirs. I booked Gabe without seeing another photographer and it was the BEST decision! On my big day, Gabe arrived early, set up, and after a quick run through of the event flow with me, I was completely at ease knowing that Gabe would capture shots in a journalistic photography style that I will cherish for years to come. His professionalism, creativity, cheerfulness, and fun-loving interaction with me and my guests created a great atmosphere and experience for everyone. He knows how to make you feel comfortable event while the camera may be surprisingly aimed directly in your face — He makes taking photos fun! During the event, I sneaked a peek at the photo display. Gabe caught me peeking and showed me a few of the shots. The pictures were stunning! With his creative eye, he captured the timeline of my event while shooting photos in the most unique places. I highly recommend hiring Gabriel “Gabe” Martinez (The Marvelous Real Photography) for any engagement. Gabe exceeded my expectations and I will contact him again for future events.

Xen Live is the only company I'll call anymore for live sound solutions. After a few bad experiences with other companies in the area, I had the pleasure of working with Jay on a wedding event. He arrived early (and very well-dressed), set up quickly and efficiently, and then proceeded to do an incredible job hosting the event and getting people on the dance floor. 10 out of 10, 5 stars, highly recommended, etc. Bottom line, if you want to be certain your event will be a success, CALL XEN LIVE.

Brandon was really easy to work with and communicative with what we needed for our wedding day. Our wedding was almost 450 people and combined both Indian and Afghan traditions, and still Brandon was able to capture both cultures and the energy and excitement of our guests so beautifully. I'd definitely recommend Brandon to anyone looking for a wedding videographer in the area!

I hired Leslie to do a photo shoot of a company meeting I was hosting in Washington DC. Leslie was great. She was very easy to communicate with in advance - I was coming to an event from out of town and she made it really easy to work with her. She captured great moments and photos turn out really well. She also does a same day delivery of key shots and then had 100s of the event photos edited and ready for me within a week! I recommend Leslie for event photography and will use her if my company is in DC area again.

Cameron was so excellent to work with. He was incredibly professional. He was communicative and responded to messages quickly. He arrived at my event early and took care of setup. He's very knowledgeable, and he has a good eye. Working with him alleviated a lot of the stress of my event--he had everything in hand. He's also just an all-around nice guy. I'd recommend working with him; the quality is well worth the cost.

It is truly rare to find a professional who is an expert at what they do, humble, smart and innovative in what they do, plans ahead, is cool under pressure, and is in general a great human being - Adam Martray embodies this in what he does. After shopping around for months to find the best price and quality (12+ videographers looked at), Adam clearly stood out from his initial communication and lived up to his high quality standards in wedding pre-planning, day of execution, and afterward regarding edits, flexibility, superb quality, and professionalism. I will recommend Adam to everyone who asks me for years to come and have the video evidence to prove it, but also the personal evidence interacting with him to have no doubts about recommending him as the best quality and price for any videographer request in the DMV area (or anywhere he travels to!). Could not be happier with the entire interaction over months with Adam and I bet you will feel the same way. No need to look any further, you found the gem you're looking for in Adam Martray Event Videography!

Wendy-Rai was the perfect DJ for our event. The music fit the mood throughout the wedding. She also did a great job of playing dope tracks and not annoying pop music. I'd get married a second time just to have DJ Wendy-Rai play the second one (just kidding).

Arrived early and great feedback from students. Loved all the props! Had some technical difficulties (no fault of the attendant) and some of the pics didn’t turn out well since the kids were younger / shorter. Needed to have a stool. All in all would have back again next year - feel I better understand what I need to ask.

On two occasions I have called Winstead literally at the 23rd hour!! I called him for a photography event one hour prior to start of the event and he went out of his way to get to my event! Very professional!! I called him again today at the last minute to do my daughters makeup for prom! He showed up on time, prepared and professional. He did an amazing job. She looked gorgeous. One of her friends hair got wet enroute to our home and he took the time to touch up her hair. First class person! First class professional!

I searched thoroughly for a videographer to film a bridal shower and received lots of quotes. I look at many past projects of several videographers and I decided on Ronnie because of the great editing shown throught his previous work and his quick responsiveness to any questions/concerns. I never had to wait more than 15mins to hear back from him although he had other projects! Communication is extremely important to me and I give him an A++ on that. I never base my decisions strictly on price but Ronnie's rates are excellent!! He was laid back & cool, he blended in with my guest and didn't disrupt our event in any way. He got the job done and went the extra mile to accommodate us on very short notice and adjusted his plan to still film in nonstop rain! As a result, we have an awesome highlight video of our entire day that he edited without complaint until we were 100% happy!!! He's going to be my go-to videographer for any local events that we plan and/or host!! Thank you, thank ypu, thank you Ronnie! 😊

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
