I participated in a boot camp throughout the summer with Stacey and loved it. I may not have been a fan of the early mornings, but I never regretted a workout. Though some days were hard, all the workouts were fun, I learned new exercises and felt great. I've been training with Angie for over a year now and I love her enthusiasm she has for her clients! The excitement and drive she has to meet my goals is just the nudge I need to challenge myself and go the extra mile. Angie pushes hard but appropriately so which helped me to achieve more than I could have imagined…like completing two Spartan races within a 1 month span of time! She is knowledgeable with all aspects of fitness and health and does her research to cater her training to meet my needs and goals. I'm not one to write reviews, but because I'm passionate about working out, fitness and nutrition, I feel I should let others out there know what a great place Activate is for all of the above. I have been a member since it's inception and truly believe that it is different than any other facility or big box gym I've ever been a member of. At Activate you are not just another number or member but a person with individual needs. You are heard and encouraged to succeed whether it be from the staff (who are phenomenal by the way) or from other members who are also there to succeed. As a person who has struggled with my weight from my teens into adulthood, it has always been super-depressing to go from fitness center to fitness center and not achieve success. Even if I did achieve success, it was barely measurable, not to mention that I never learned anything about what is necessary to get results - appropriate nutrition and the kind of workouts needed for targeting fat loss. Like so many others, I was on the treadmill and elliptical wasting my time. Activate is the only place I have ever found true success with real, lasting weight loss and nutrition. Before going to Soupar as a personal trainer I had tried gyms, workout videos, and morning boot camps. All of them ended up being incredibly boring, and when it's boring it's not effective. Soupar know how to keep the workouts interesting and effective. He took the time to talk to me and figure out my goals, then crafted a carefully planned routine. And the plan is not rigid, but is tailored to address any issues that may occur during the time between visits. I credit him with helping get my weight down, my cholesterol in control, and helping get off the medication that the doctor put me on. Outside of sessions Soupar keeps track of all of his clients regarding exercise and diet. Overall he is a consummate professional who takes the goals seriously, while keeping the journey fun.

Ali helped me design a workout routine that I can use just about anywhere, on the road for work travel or even in the park where we practiced it. She talked to me ahead of it about the things I wanted to work on: core strength and leg strength so it was a workout that did exactly what I wanted. I don't like it when I go to gyms and feel pushed around by trainers so I was lucky to find Ali. She has a really calm and positive nature that is helpful and motivational to do your best. It is so hard to keep me motivated to go to the gym on a weekly basis but having Danny on my calendar helps me to stay focus during the week as I get ready to attend our small group training sessions. Danny is epitome of professionalism. He is is very knowledge about fitness, nutrition and proper technique and is very punctual. I can still remember my first group training session with Danny, and it was around Thanksgiving and boy, my body was so sore for about 3 days after out session that I refused to indulge in the festivities because it hurt to breath or get up to make a plate but I didn’t want to gain 1 ounce of fat from eating poorly. Danny is awesome, I wish I could attend more than 1 or 2 classes per week him. His classes are like a boot camp and the results are visible quickly even from attending as little as once a week for about 7 weeks. Just follow his instructions and watch your caloric intake. I recommend Daniel highly for your personal training needs. Good luck on your journey.

I recently joined Fit Camp DC as a runner who wanted to add strength training to my routine. I saw the group working out in Logan Circle and decided to give it a try. Emmanuel is a great trainer who is clearly passionate about what he does. The classes are very challenging and in the HIIT style, so it's 30 minutes of intensity; it's a great butt-kicker but only to your own limits. The short workouts, location, and class times are extremely convenient which makes it easy to fit into a busy schedule. People of all fitness levels are in the class which means it's not intimidating and you are pushed to your own level of intensity. During the class Emmanuel is really motivating; there is a lot of positive reinforcement and he will make sure you are performing the moves correctly with proper form. Another thing that I like about Fit Camp which I've disliked about other groups I've tried, and which has kept me from signing up for other classes, is that we don't partner up during the workouts. I have an aversion to touching sweaty people I don't know, and I appreciate that we don't do that! Most of the reviews here are about results; indeed I am feeling great and can tell my muscles are already getting the attention they needed (I'll post again in a few weeks with more concrete results), but I think exercise and a fit lifestyle is really about the journey as well, and so far this has been a positive one.

I went to him to help my Jiu-Jitsu game and what I got was a whole lot more. He knows the science behind diet and exercise so well he was able to put me on an incredible diet and exercise regime which increased my strength, drop my weight from 186 lbs. down to 161 lbs. and as a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu his instruction took me to two first place finishes in tournaments. I recommend Chris as the only professional athlete, nutrition specialist and expert trainer with a B.S. degree in Sports & Exercise Science from a major university in the Frederick, Maryland area. The opportunity to be trained by a champion and athlete like Chris is rare in Frederick, MD so I would highly recommend him for personal fitness training, diet overhauls, and private instruction in his professional disciplines of wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

My two little ones and I are taking a Mommy and Me Boot camp class with Valerie at the Community Center in Laurel. From day one, she welcomed us all (even a wailing baby!) and showed me ways to incorporate both my two year old and five month old into my workout so that it was actually doable and fun. Each workout has been different and tailored to the needs of the group. (She checks in with us frequently and makes modifications if a task is too easy, too hard, or a child in the group needs mommy!). I appreciate Valerie's friendly encouragement- I feel supported and actually enjoy our sessions. (How often can you say that about a workout?!) I only wish more people knew about her classes!
