This company helped us with our move-in cleaning. They arrived on time and always responded to our messages promptly. The cleaning was done for a very competitive price. They did a good job; however, they missed tiny things around the home. This is why I gave them 4 out of 5 stars.

I have worked with this company twice now. I was so pleased with the window install they did for me that I hired them to do my siding as well. They kept me informed during the whole process and made sure both experiences were painless! Thanks Star Home!

After the storm, I needed to get some shingles replaced quickly due to another impending storm. Normally I would have done this myself, but the pitch of our roof is not something I wanted to challenge. Rudy was able to come and make the fixes quickly and I don't need to worry about any possible water damage.

Sam was absolutely perfect! He came to my house to give me an estimate for my house I plan to put on the market. During the entire project, he was personable & knowledgeable. Sam & his team painted my kitchen, front door, windows, repaired a window and did some touch-up work. I will definitely hire him again!!

Within a week, Secure Glass was able to come to my house, provide a free estimate, order the parts for my windows, and then repair my windows. Karim was very friendly and professional, and did a great job on the windows. The pricing on the windows was very reasonable. All around, it was a fantastic experience.

Learned about Curtis' company through work he did for a neighbor who was extremely satisfied with his work. They allowed us to see the work he'd done on their master bath and it looked great. We had our townhouse kitchen renovated by them. Curtis provided a very comprehensive estimate which detailed some items we hadn't considered such as daily clean-up, the payment schedule, and how receipts would be handled for materials purchases. His estimate came in at the middle of 4 estimates we received for tear-down of the original kitchen, new cabinet installation, tile floors and backsplash with some electrical and plumbing thrown in. He was able to accommodate an earlier start date when the cabinets we ordered were available earlier then expected by 2 weeks. He and his 2 assistants worked efficiently and more importantly they took care when doing the demo (and throughout the project) to protect the hallway floors and other areas of the house from dust, dirt and debris. They worked very efficiently and by the end of the 2nd day were starting on laying the tile floor. Cabinet installation went smoothly and he was kind enough to point out a couple items which we needed to report back to the cabinet makers regarding some bowing. Overall the project took approximately 9 business days from start to finish with a few small visits to finish up hardware, trim and reinstallation of the dishwasher once the counters and sink folks (separate company) finished their piece. His 2 assistants were equally pleasant and made us feel comfortable so we could ask questions as needed. We plan to use Curtis' company Oddjobs.pro again for upcoming bathroom renovations and some other work we need done.

I hired Antonio (Tony) Sanchez from Renaissance Restoration to complete a kitchen renovation this past fall (sorry I did not get around to completing this review sooner!). I did all the demolition, but the job included lights and electrical, plumbing repair, cabinet and counter top install, appliance install, and painting. Tony gave a very reasonable estimate and personally worked on my project with his assistant from start to finish as opposed to having one of his employees complete the job. As he began the job, he soon realized that virtually nothing from the original construction was square (townhouse was built in 1987). However, that did not phase him as he had the skills to adjust making those imperfections unnoticeable in the end. In addition, Tony has skills in most of the trades which meant that he did not have to sub different parts of the job out; he did all the electrical, plumbing and carpentry himself. The best part of my experience working with Tony was that he discussed and explained different options or ways of completing a task to ensure there were no surprises, and I was impressed with his willingness to even teach me a little along the way. He was flexible in allowing me to have a friend install the tile floor and was understanding of my need to stick to a rather tight budget. There are only two comments I could make for overall improvement: cleanliness and timeliness. On a couple of occasions, I had to discard empty food containers and drinks that had been left behind. I attributed this to oversight and could be easily improved by making an effort to clean up the work site after each day of work. Considering it was not a space I was using though, it was not that big of a deal. As for timeliness, the project took longer than expected to complete. However, I know that my involvement did have some impact on the schedule and the fact he was doing the work himself while still managing other jobs is a factor. I would not hesitate to bring Tony in for another project in the future. I am completely satisfied with his work and would recommend him to anyone.

They arrived on time and provided a thorough assessment of our skylight issue. He even took pictures/video to show me what he saw up there! He had the materials necessary on his truck and was able to fix our skylight in less than 30 minutes. He took great care to be mindful of our floors and carpeting. A great experience and we will certainly use SASA for future work.

Patrick did a great job on my initial service request which was for the installation of a new storm door. He did a great job installing it even though the foundation wood was not in the best shape. He also installed a new outdoor light fixture while he was here and identified other areas where I might be able to utilize his services in the future. I will be calling him back. We absolutely loved working with José and his team to tile our basement floor with ceramic wood-looking tile, expose a brick wall, and install new toilet and a wall-mounted sink. He works FAST and within budget. Extra things we needed done were added at very reasonable extra expense ($40-60 to repair an unexpected drywall hole behind a mirror). His team does beautiful work, and José made sure every bit of trash or demo material was taken away. They also went above and beyond to make things look nice. For example, I don't think they charged me extra when they plastered around our baseboards and it looks soooo much better! They also patched a little hole left by a past electrician's job. They took extra good care of our space as if it was their own home. We also like that he respected our desire to further finish our space ourselves ( we are ok with doing our own painting). I can't say enough good things. We will definitely hire José and Brandon Contracting for our next job.

Brennen was very nice and did a great job explaining the benefits of the excellent quality windows and doors that Green Energy LLC provided. The windows themselves are excellent quality, are much more energy efficient than our old windows, are easy to clean, and look great. I would give 5 stars except we had a couple issues getting everything done and finalized. Initially, it was unclear if we were allowed to get vinyl windows in our neighborhood because of the area's historic status, and Green Energy was not proactive about researching the issue although they told us they would be. Then, when the windows were installed, one of them was badly cracked, and the installation team did not point out that it had happened (I discovered the next day). The window pane got replaced once and the new one got scratched in transit, so then it had to be replaced again. At the end of the day, they are really great windows and we are very pleased with them.

After several reschedules, mostly thanks to mother nature, Gio sent two crew members to install our shutters, replace some roof shingles and flashing. What we admired most about Gio was the fact that he came personally to speak with us about the job and give us an estimate which seemed very fair. He also stayed in communication with us throughout the rescheduling process. The outside of our house looks "normal" again. Thank you!

After a heavy storm, we had water leaking from our lights in the kitchen and from our electric panel in our basement! I called MJ Home Services and Dale came out the next day to investigate the leaks. He quickly turned around an estimate to fix both issues as I told him I wanted to fix the issues ASAP. Prices were very reasonable and he insisted on finding the cause of the leaks instead of assuming the obvious (the bay window in the kitchen). The "obvious" cause of the leak wasn't actually the problem after his investigation as Dale found that the problem was actually the window on the next level up. It was allowing water in and running down the brick into the kitchen drywall ceiling. I couldn't be happier that we chose MJ home services to complete the repairs and everything was fixed way beyond my expectations. Also, the coordination of service by Melissa was amazing.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
