Hire him!! Elmo was phenomenal. My wedding gift to my best friend the bride was the photography. It was nerve wracking to take that on as I did not have a referral and chose St. Elmo solely based on the website and reviews. Elmo is an expert at putting people at ease, blending in with the crowd, getting natural shots as well as posed photos. When I need a photographer again, I will hire him. I recommend him without reservation . You will not regret it.,, hire him...

Party Favor Photo was so much fun to have at our wedding reception! They were punctual and set everything up with no issues at all. They were completely professional and very easy to communicate with in the days leading up to our wedding, and they had all of our digital photos available for viewing the day after the event, which was faster than I expected! Our guests loved having both the photobooth prints and the digital versions available for viewing, and the pictures turned out really well. One thing I appreciated beyond words is that the photobooth attendant flagged my husband and I down at the end of the night, right after our send-off, and told us that we should do a quick shoot in the photobooth since we hadn't had a chance to do so over the course of the very busy and hectic night. That was so sweet and thoughtful, and we both appreciated her thinking of that for us. I had no complaints and wouldn't hesitate to use them again, or recommend them!

I am so happy that we found Ilya to do the videography for our wedding ceremony. He was responsive and professional from the beginning and willing to work within the restrictions set forth by our church. We received the edited video within a mere days of our wedding so we were able to enjoy and relive during our honeymoon! Ilya was wonderful to work with and I will definitely contact again for any future projects.

Working with Jeff has been a great experience. He offered to take photos for my wedding. His preference is for small to medium weddings - so ours was right in his wheelhouse. Working with a small budget and very short notice he managed to provide professional photographs that have exceeded my expectations. He managed to get many pictures without being intrusive. And many of them are so amazing because they are so candid and unexpected. These are some of my favorites ones. I highly recommend Jeff to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced photographer for their wedding or special event.

Great experience, from start to finish! We hired them for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary party (5 hours total). Vinny was responsive, professional and great to work with. The photo booth operator, Ben, contacted me ahead of time to introduce himself and he was punctual, professional & patient. It was a fabulous hit with everyone at the party and a tremendous value. We would definitely hire them again!!

Candace was the photographer for my wedding and I loved both the photos and her wonderful work style that enabled her to fit seamlessly into an intimate, family event. Because we had a more intimate event, Candace brought a more creative, editorial approach to our photos that successfully told our unique story. I learned that she has a TV producer background and her visual storytelling skills were on full display. Finally, she has the most lovely personality. It was as if a close, trusted friend was capturing the memories from our special day. I give Candace my highest recommendation.

First if all, I am hard to impress and easily the most critical perfectionist Ive met to date, and I can speak in absolutes to say that hiring and working with Josh was THE BEST experience of my life. Choosing Josh was a no-brainer to me after seeing his work, but working with him was even more impressive than I could've imagined.... We were running behind on the big day and he made us feel so calm... he literally felt like family while remaining professional the entire time. Josh was almost like a ninja capturing moments without being recognized, and somehow disguising crowds of hundreds of people in the busiest parts of D.C. To create solitude glory. He has vision, can provide instruction, and remain virtually in-invasive as possible while capturing the most special moments. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that my husband and I both agree, without Josh we wouldn't be able to remember the most special day of our life the way we can now. If you're looking for TOP NOTCH wedding photography with the most kind, understanding, accommodating, and professionally skilled photographer on the eastern coast, Josh is your guy. Thanks again for making my day perfect. Signed, A hard to please but happy bride (and groom)! 🙌🏽

Brandon was really easy to work with and communicative with what we needed for our wedding day. Our wedding was almost 450 people and combined both Indian and Afghan traditions, and still Brandon was able to capture both cultures and the energy and excitement of our guests so beautifully. I'd definitely recommend Brandon to anyone looking for a wedding videographer in the area!

I researched photographers in the Atlanta area and decided to use Jenny Wright Photography for a birthday photo shoot, in which my husband and I enjoyed working with Jenny. She was very professional and receptive to any ideas I had in terms of location and potential shots. I even suggested an imaging technique that many photographers use to isolate a pop of color and she researched how to do the technique and sent me a separate cd within days of me emailing her. Now that is customer service at its best! I wish Jenny best of luck in her future endeavors, especially as she is getting ready to embark on getting more into wedding photography. I would recommend brides in the area to try jenny if you are looking for reasonable prices and someone who is easy to work with.

Our wedding was on March 15, 2014. We chose Fox & Owl Photography based on the recommendation of a friend and we couldn't be happier with our decision. A few weeks prior to our ceremony we had a meeting over coffee with both Carrie and Allison, where we discussed the type and style of photography we desired. My wife and I had poured over at least two dozen other portfolios, so we already had zeroed in on a style that both of us really liked. We wanted photography that showed off our love and affection for one another without being too saccharine. We also wanted some shots that highlighted our venue which was right on the Chesapeake watershed. We also listed out the individual moments over the course of the ceremony that we wanted captured on film. During this meeting they took extensive notes, and together we created a layout of the ceremony site and came up with a strategy for how to give the photographers the best sight-lines and ease of movement during the event. We also came up with contingencies for weather. We took a huge risk having an outdoor ceremony in the middle of March. Carrie and Allison exuded confidence and assured us rain or shine (or snow!) that they'd be able to work with whatever conditions were on the ground and still capture our wedding. On the day of the ceremony this planning proved very helpful. Thankfully it was a sunny day in the 60's! Another choice we made was to have the ceremony device-free. This allowed the photographers to do their jobs without distraction or interference. It also provided a serene atmosphere for our guests during the ceremony. We wanted very bold photography, outdoors in sunlight on the waterfront--shots that utilized light and shadow. During our initial meeting I used words like "brooding" and "melodramatic" to describe what I wanted. Fox & Owl came through in a big way. They produced photography that gave that sense exactly, while still keeping it romantic. There were plenty of photos that captured our joy and laughter as well--my wife's bridal portraits were stunning and her "getting ready" photos seem to be by consensus among our friends, the best sets. Carrie and Allison were cordial and professional throughout the day. Their style appeared to be to discreetly capture moments as they happened rather than to be vocal about staging people, Still, some of the best shots they took were when they directed us and asked us to pose in a particular way. Their instincts were dead on especially as the sun was going down. The sunset shots were spectacular and their use of that lighting was ideal. They adapted well to changes. There was plenty that went wrong during the day. Key friends and my own parents were so late they missed their photography times. Knowing that having these pictures were very important, we were able to make time after the ceremony and we got some family photos. In total, Fox & Owl delivered 377 high quality digital photographs on DVD soon after the ceremony. We couldn't wait to have our pictures and they replied to our update request promptly and kept their promised delivery date, which was faster than we were expecting. We narrowed down the best ones for printing and we decided we liked 99 of them. Of those 99, to break it down, I'd say 10 were exceptional, about 50 were excellent and the remaining 40 were very good. We honestly did not expect to have that many great photographs from the day. We spent over a week arguing over what photos should go in which frames and albums. It was a very good problem to have. We would happily recommend Fox & Owl to any couple that desires artistic, high quality wedding photography.

I would highly recommend Danglinn Productions for your wedding videography needs! Andrew was extremely professional and very responsive to all of my emails and telephone calls. He was able to accommodate all of my requests to provide exactly what I was hoping for in our wedding video! The actual videographers were Ryan Deal and his wife, Amber, both of which were extremely friendly and professional. They arrived early, stayed late, and were there to capture every single wedding detail that I could've hoped for. They had never shot video at the Naval Academy before, but still captured every important detail and feature of the Chapel like they had filmed there a million times. I didn't even realize they were there half the time so it was a huge treat to watch the video and see all of the amazing details and moments they caught on tape. Andrew Linn did the editing and produced the actual wedding video and highlight clip. His work was absolutely impeccable!! He included all of the important moments and events with perfect transitions between everything. I couldn't be more pleased with the final product and am so happy to be able to watch the videos and relive the best day of my life forever!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
