Harriford was excellent in all regards . Value in terms of the cost to work quality relationship was impressive - the quote was competitive and the knowledge and thoroughness on the repair was very strong. The responsiveness with quotes and follow-up on setting up the job was incredible. And the professionalism and punctuality with completing the job was in line with (and exceeded) expectations. While hired to replace a few missing shingles, Harriford completed this task and inspected, identified, and repaired a few other roofing issues.

Jorge came on a Friday to give us an estimate and work started on the following Wednesday and was done on Friday. After a nice power wash and stain our deck looks brand new. The wood boards feels like composite but without the expense. Jorge even replaced some rotted wood trim and rotted wood from underneath our bump out kitchen. After repainting our trim, our house looks great now.

Rudis was quick to answer my request for a quote, he came the next morning. We had squirrels eat out a hole in the shingles on our roof and rain was in the forecast for the next day. Rudis was on time, inspected the damage, gave us a quote and made the repair all in one trip.

I recently had the entire roof of my house replaced with new lifetime shingles. It has been a little over two months now, and I haven't experienced any of the old problems with leaking or pooling water. I decided to use their services after consulting with several other roofing companies. Caliber offered me the best price, warranty and guarantee of quality. On the day of job, the man I spoke with for the original estimate was present and made sure everything was running smoothly during the reconstruction. The team started in the morning and worked diligently to get the job done the very same day as promised in our consultation. My one worry was about the mess created by tearing off old shingles, but the workers were sure to keep it all contained and cleaned everything on the site once they finished. I was also very pleased by their professionalism and courteous behavior. If you are in need of any roofing repair or replacement, I would highly recommend these guys. They did a fantastic job!

We absolutely loved working with José and his team to tile our basement floor with ceramic wood-looking tile, expose a brick wall, and install new toilet and a wall-mounted sink. He works FAST and within budget. Extra things we needed done were added at very reasonable extra expense ($40-60 to repair an unexpected drywall hole behind a mirror). His team does beautiful work, and José made sure every bit of trash or demo material was taken away. They also went above and beyond to make things look nice. For example, I don't think they charged me extra when they plastered around our baseboards and it looks soooo much better! They also patched a little hole left by a past electrician's job. They took extra good care of our space as if it was their own home. We also like that he respected our desire to further finish our space ourselves ( we are ok with doing our own painting). I can't say enough good things. We will definitely hire José and Brandon Contracting for our next job.

Nery did a great job power washing and staining my deck. He repaired holes in my drywall and it looked completely brand new, like nothing ever happened. He also repaired my gutter and some wood siding that had been damaged on the side of my house. I will definitely be contacting him again if we need more work done!

Trenton arrived on time and was very professional. He took a look at the two items that I had for the job and began immediately. He was efficient and careful not to scratch my wood floors. He cleaned up after himself. I had a partially assembled Ikea desk and he figured out that I'd used screws in the wrong place. I am very pleased with his work and will use his services again in the near future.

We contacted Marvin about patching a hole in the drywall. He came out the same day to give us an estimate and sent one of his employee the next day to do the job. We cannot be more happy with the results. You cannot tell at all the wall had a hole it in and he added wood panels to reinforce the dry wall as well. He charged us exactly the amount that he quoted, which was very reasonable. We will definitely go to Marvin again for future jobs.

I came to Thumbtack looking for someone to patch a couple holes (1.5 foot x 2 feet and 1.5 foot x 3 feet) that resulted from a flood in our laundry room. Turcios Drywall was fantastic in every way-- they quickly reached out to me, were responsive to questions, were able to come out that very night and within a few hours everything was as good as new! We were so impressed by their work that we called them directly to have them come back and help us get our floating wood floor back in place. Again, fast, efficient, skilled service. I've been raving about them to all our local neighbors, and I'm happy to rave about them here!

I hired Antonio, of Renaissance Restoration, to do several projects. They included: 1) rebuilding the curb in my shower that was installed improperly by a different contractor; 2) Finishing a half-bath remodel that included refinishing and painting the drywall after they had be damaged from wallpaper removal, installing a vanity including plumbing and trim; 3) Repairing water-damaged hardwood floors and refinishing hardwood floors in the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, hall and stairway; 4) Expanding the kitchen entrance by 2 inches, repairing and refinishing the drywall and wood floor. I was at first skeptical to hire one person to complete all these tasks due to the variety of skills required. Fortunately, Antonio had all the skills necessary to complete the job expertly and timely. His attention to detail and vast experience with carpentry and contracting work in general proved to be invaluable. The end result of each project was even better than I had expected. Needless to say I would hire Antonio again for my next project.

Jim with KPM sent Andrew Cannon to repair my roof within hours of contacting him. Andrew replaced several shingles and caulked my roof...but that turned out not to be the single issue causing leaking in my garage. A rainstorm a few days later uncovered another source of the problem. Andrew came back out the next day and found a large gap running between the house and my siding above the roof he had repaired. Rain water was getting in this gap and running under the shingles and into my garage ceiling. Andrew went the extra mile to find the problem and fix it. We have had no issues since and will call Andrew and KPM again for our home improvement/repair projects. Thank you KPM!

I contracted Unlimited Resources, Inc. for a designer paint job and the installation of exotic hardwood floors throughout my living room and family room and ceramic flooring in the kitchen. I was hesitant about the paint combination because I was stepping outside of my box but Mr. Litman advised me through the purchases and I was thoroughly pleased with the end result. I picked out a very expensive exotic wood which would have to be ordered and would take weeks to arrive and I was working within a tight timeline to have the work completed. Mr. Litman was able to locate the wood in the metropolitan area and completed the project in an expeditious manner. My neighbors and family have asked to see the finished work and I've received rave reviews! I wouldn't hesitate to use Unlimited Resources, Inc. for future home improvement endeavors.

Matt pulled out the carpet in our basement and installed a wood grain tile. He did a great job with the installation and also communicating about the time frame for completing the job. He made see that the grout lines were as narrow as possible to achieve the full wood like unlike some contractors who take the lazy approach. We plan on hiring him again when we upgrade the tile in our bathroom.

Robert did a great job. I appreciate that when I contacted him about a small siding issue on my house that he also made me aware of a major roofing and wood rotting issue on the home. This would have ended up in more damage down the road. They were able do all the work promptly. He was easy to communicate with and I feel satisfied with the work that was done. Thanks.

Beautiful, handmade wood railings. Primed and painted. Also painted trim around front door. Re-grouted flagstone stairs and walkway and replaced four pieces of flagstone where four new handrail main posts were placed. Sealed all the flagstone. It looks fabulous. Friendly, skilled workers who did a great job. They cleaned up at the end of each day and all requests were met with "We'll take care of it." Highly recommended.

Fred Muela from Liberty Windows and Siding Inc. gave us a fantastic quote to install all the windows and replace the siding. The price was better than other companies and the installation went smoothly. A few years later the trim coil (aluminum trim over the house wood trim) started to peel off in a few places. I contacted the trim coil manufacturer per Liberty Windows and Siding Inc warranty information/instructions and they were making me call one office after the other and eventually they did not stand behind their product and the warranty. I checked with Fred Muela and he sent someone to replace the trim coil at no charge. This is the type of company Liberty Windows and Siding Inc is. I was recommending them before and now is a no brainer to recommend them. We are very happy we chose them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
