Introduction: I have a very diversified studio. Because I grew up in a musical household, and because I've pursued it most of my adult life, I have the opportunity to offer lessons on multiple instruments. My studio is also diversified in that I've taught every age group, in both individual and group instruction. This gives me a breadth of ability to communicate to any age group. Stylistically, I've played and taught both contemporary and classical. For example, I've played violin in orchestras, and I've played on worship teams in churches. This depth of experience helps me communicate more effectively and relate at whatever level my students are at. I absolutely love teaching. The thing that I enjoy most about what I do is getting to see the progress that my students make, from being a complete beginner, to playing actual music. I currently have a four year old on piano who has gone from knowing no music and nothing about piano, to being able to read 'real' music and play simple songs like Yankee Doodle. It's been less than six months since when she started. Her brother is ten, and he has gone from no musical background to being able to shred up the blues on the guitar. That's absolutely phenomenal, and that's why I love what I do.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I recommend finding a music instructor who works well with any age group, and who has experience both in teaching and playing music. A diverse knowledge of music is fantastic as well, because there are many areas that crossover between instruments. For example, I started on the violin before I learned guitar, but both are string instruments, so a lot of the knowledge that I gained on the violin, I was able to transfer to the guitar. I'm also able to pull in illustrations of chords on the piano, because the piano is such a visual instrument, so students who might not understand the concept of a chord on the guitar can see how it is actually composed on the piano.
