They installed a bathroom fan/light and fixed some double tapped breakers. Got it done pretty quickly, about 2 hours and they charged me $250 for it which is just above the national average according to homeadvisor.com. Originally I wanted the fan and light on separate switches. I was thankful for Mike's opinion on the matter, he was upfront with me that having separate switches may end up being much more costly and he recommended I get a quiter fan and keep it on a single switch that way I wouldn't even hear the fan when the light was on. Honestly, wish I could have done the work myself to save me the $250 but I'm glad I can rest assured that everything was done right and I don't have to worry about my house catching on fire in the middle of the night!

I tend to be a do-it-yourselfer. I take pride in it. But not when it comes to taking down wallpaper. I tried once…never again. So I hired Porter to take down wallpaper in (and then paint) my bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room. He did an incredible job. He was fast, friendly, knowledgeable, and he paid attention to detail. The end result was far superior to what I could have done on my own and a much better deal than I expected it to be. I couldn’t be happier! My only complaint is that he made taking down wallpaper look easy when I know from experience that it isn’t. It hurt my pride. But I’d rather have a bruised ego than an ugly patchy wall. I highly recommend him! Thanks again Porter!

Hired Fred for painting 3 concrete storage areas in our house. Was very happy with his work. The painters came on time, did spray painting in concrete storage areas and they look great now (aqua blue color). He also painted accent wall in one of the rooms with royal blue and we are very pleased with his work. We gave our other house painting work - 2 rooms and deck repaint based on our experience with him. Hiring him again for garage painting. Pros - Responds quickly, checks with us for the exact color we need in the morning or day before so there are no surprises. Also his prices are competitive and affordable. He will not overcharge.Quality work. Great crew. Cons - Didn't move furniture back to wall which they moved to the middle of room before painting. Also, paying through CC will cost a minor surcharge.

Our first time to hire Jim was to do some drywall repair from some house settling. He did an excellent job in the repair work and the walls look great. We also had him paint the walls afterwards. Painting was done in an excellent manner and Jim was always very tidy and cleaned up his work areas at the end of each day. We also had him give us a quote and then hired him to tear out and replace a full shower in our master bath. This included tearing out old tile, cutting out the old drywall and replacing it with new moisture barrier drywall. He also revamped our plumbing in the shower and then hung new ceramic tile, accent tile and shower doors as well as replacing the shower basin. In addition we had him hang bathroom fixtures and paint that room as well. He was always very thorough in his jobs and was very neat and tidy. We would definitely recommend Jim for any jobs that you would have with drywall, plumbing and painting.

had several different people over for estimates, I have to say the professionalism that Khurshed has about his job shows. We felt that his quote was on target. After working with Xandyman Painting you will be hard pressed to want to hire someone else for your future projects

Dave helped us out with many projects around the house including: dishwasher install, back door replacement, baseboard caulking, toilet paper holder reinstall and towel bar reinstall (they had ripped out of the wall.) He worked until the job was done and always communicated his timing via text, which was very useful.

Andrew was awesome! We asked for his help in painting the exterior of our new coffee shop. He did an excellent job, was on time, and was super easy to work with. He responded quickly to my messages and we could not be happier with the finished product. If you need work done, be sure to reach out to Andrew first. 5 stars!

Took some tile off a wall to replace a kitchen back splash Mold every where from a shower leaking behind the kitchen cabinets. 911 came in, took out cabinets, tore off sheet rock. Bagged every thing up. Dried every thing out. We were ready to restart Construction in a few days. Thought the price was great for all the work & equipment on Job. Great people. My wife is comfortable that the mold is eliminated David G. McIntyre

My experience with Scott & Overland Painting Pro's was by far the best experience I have ever had hiring someone to complete a project on my house. He is extremely professional, incredibly easy to work with and just an all around nice guy. I had several painters bid my exterior painting job and he was definitely the most reasonable of them all. With such a reasonable bid (and the fact that I didn't have the best experience with workmanship of another contractor) I was afraid he might cut some corners but I fears were unfounded. When he was finished, he asked me to walk around the house and point out any areas that might need extra attention. I will definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone without any hesitation!

He knew we had renters coming in and I contacted him late in the process. He worked all weekend to get it done. Even did a second coat in certain areas at no extra charge. Was also able to do some minor sheetrock repairs before painting. Will use him in my own home when the time comes.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
