Our experience of moving with Moving Pros was nothing short of excellent. Setting up the details of the move with Cole was easy. When the movers Branden and Caleb arrived right on time they were ready to get to work, even after doing 2 moves before ours in 100 degree heat. We were very impressed with their professionalism and the care they took with our furniture. We cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely use Moving Pros again when needed.

I was given a 10-2 arrival time, and the movers arrived at 2:35. No apologies for the lateness, but started off by asking if I "had a lot of stuff." There was some mention of them switching with another crew and it appeared they were not aware they'd be moving from a 2nd floor apartment to a 5th floor one down the street. I had some tightly packed crates that could not be moved because they did not have a lid, and I wish Courtney would have told me what could/could not be moved when I booked. The movers worked hard to get everything done but this company seems to have a lack of communication with their crew and I would not book them again or recommend them.

Moved my father-in-laws belongings to a warehouse. It was a BIG job and I was grateful for their dedicated work. I appreciate everything they did to make it a smooth move. The only thing that did not go as plan was that I requested three movers, but one was not able to make it. It turned out great and I would definitely use them again! Good job guys!

Hiring movers can be a big gamble. Having done several moves over the past 8 years, I've had varying experiences. This was my first time using AIM High movers and I was impressed to say the least. The movers were professional, but friendly. They worked quickly, but they took great care to ensure that everything was done right. From shrink wrapping certain items to ensure their stability, to efficient use and packing (into the truck) of other items. The team from AIM High operated like a well oiled machine and took care to ensure that our belongings were handled with respect and that everything made it into it's destination in our home. When a desk wouldn't fit through a door the Aim High team had the tools and the know how to remove the door pins to take the door off, then they carefully took the legs off of the desk, moved it in, and put it all back together. Absolutely impressive. For any future moving needs, I will continue with confidence to AIM HIGH. Leo and Marco did a great job!

We are Retired Military. I wished that we had these men move us down through the years. The price was right and the move was better than a military move!!!!I am very meticulous about my personal items. We had a lot of breakable items that were not damaged (crystal, mirrored bar, china and lots of it, pictures etc..). Our movers starting with management and then staff was very professional, courteous and punctual. We moved just before the first of Oct. We had two very strong men that moved us from an apartment to a house. Doesn't sound like much work? Well it was because we'd moved out of our home in California and although we were in an apartment the rest of the furniture and household items were in our full sized garage being rented on the same property. Before the movers arrived they called to let me know they were on their way. Upon their arrival they were clean and had their own hydration with them as hot as it was that day. ( Our family did provide more water etc. throughout the day) We allowed them to see the areas they needed to work. This helped them to better pack the truck and helped with time management. DON'T LET THEIR SIZE FOOL YOU! They are stronger than they may look. My husband hadn't made it home from work yet and our children were at school. My mother and I at the apartment when they arrived. Both young men were very respectable and courteous. After letting them see the areas they would pack they went to work. Initially I had arranged to have my refrigerator(old) hauled away before the movers arrived. That fell through. No problem. I had it moved too and arranged for it to be picked up by the electric company and will get a check for it in two weeks. These men didn't let me worry about anything!!! They were easily directed if I wanted something to be placed in a particular spot, they put the item in that spot no questions asked. Before my husband had arrived home they had already packed over 98% of the garage in 30 minutes without breaking anything. This was the initial area of concern for me and they got it done. Everyone knows time is money. Well as we approached our arranged time we got a courtesy call from management. Not just because we were approaching the time but just to see how the move was going. You won't get this from anyone else not anywhere. I can't even make something like this up. The move was flawless!!! After getting to our destination they set up the beds in our kids room and the washer and dryer. I learned something from them that day I was use to bubble wrapping things and dollies I saw everything I wanted could still be accomplished without all of that and shrink wrap most of all we were still within budget! I made a spread sheet of all of the movers in our area and calculated the cost of moving. I found most hit you up with the bogus gas charge before they even get to you. No you say? Well I did price the gas of a U Haul truck and it was clearly more than I was quoted over the phone. Next, I had called to confirm an estimated quote with three different sales reps at the same place and got three different prices which increased every time I spoke with them. Other companies had hidden costs that I was able to extract before I used them by using a legal strategy of negotiation to prevent me from getting robbed at the end of my move. Honestly if you have to do all of this it isn't worth using these companies. BEWARE!!!! Do get estimates and leave yourself enough time to verify what you've been quoted and get names of whom you speak to that gave you the quote. I had a total of 20 quotes and my choice was with the best and #! in my book All Star Moving. This company is very Honest, caring, hard working and has adapted very innovative ways to ensure a very safe, hassle free, cost effective, flawless move. These men literally have the strength of Sampson! Pure muscle and strength with only the use of straps and mats was what they used. The best way for me to describe the quality of my service is this Organizing efficiently to serve you and I effectively!!! We are now in our dream home!!!

Called a few movers before I decided on AFWAT Movers. I'm glad I went with them. The two guys that showed up were fast and moved me in less than three hours. My new house has some sharp turns and I was expecting dents and scratches in the wall. They didn't hit the wall once. I was very impressed with that. A few weeks later I had smaller bedroom furniture delivered and paid a $75 delivery fee and watched as the furniture company "professionals" dinged and dented my walls. I wish I would have had Friends with a Truck move that furniture in. I'm still very impressed with this company. Excellent rates, fast, professional, and nothing damaged, dinged or broken. What more can you ask for?

I needed a mover at the last minute and really didn't think I would get anyone to help me out on such short notice. They responded quickly and found a time to fit me into their schedule. They came and worked quickly and was professional and friendly eventhough it was the end of the day. I would work with them again.

Big fan of One World Van Lines!! I was moving a full 4 bedroom house due to a new job opportunity in California. Getting bombarded with calls and emails was overwhelming (big mistake). A quick search in Austin, TX showed One World Van Lines. My representative, Philip, offered an onsite visual which made everything so much easier. He took his time to walk me through of what to expect and what to do to save money on my end. I chose One World Van Lines based on my agents customer service, attention to detail, and me feel comfortable from day one. Once the movers showed up, they didnt wait or slack off, they got straight to work which finished up pretty quickly for a full house pack. Having expensive decor, collections, and antique furniture made me feel very uneasy at first, however, they were not only careful, they made sure everything was itemized and at the end, NOTHING was missing!! My agent got a great price and quick turn around on delivery! I will recommend One World Van Lines to my family and friends!!!

After being given the run around from another company, I called these folks and they got me on the schedule the next day. We had some obstacles to work around but Maria got a crew there and got my mom moved. The guys worked hard and efficiently and they did so at a fair price. As you know moving sucks, but these guys will get the job done at a good price. If I ever need a mover again, these are the folks I will call. Thanks again MMS, We appreciate you!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
