Introduction: Writing is my passion! I love all types of writing. Assisting businesses and people with my skills as a wordsmith combines two of my favorites: helping people solve a problem and writing. The ability to communicate well is essential to any profession. Writing well and succinctly is a true gift. It's a gift I honed well while in broadcast journalism and outdoor advertising. These are two mediums where time and space are limited and priced at a premium. As a journalist, I would spend the entire day researching, interviewing and gathering information on a few topics. Then I would have to condense everything I had learned into a 30-second to 90-second story. Getting it right was essential as there were millions of viewers who could quickly vote with their remote that my story wasn't interesting. Getting the facts correct was equally as important because those same million viewers could instantly discredit me by revealing inaccuracies in my story. Do we all know Brian Williams? In outdoor advertising, yes billboards, you have even less time to capture someone's attention, about 10 seconds. Usually the people you are trying to reach with your message are moving at a high rate of speed and have lots of other distractions. I once helped a gentleman in Louisiana propose to his girlfriend on a billboard. I was so excited to help him and impressed with his creative proposal. Unfortunately, the message was so eye-catching that a child of his fiance's best friend saw it as our team was placing the billboard panels. My client's plan was to drive her past the billboard, but she received a phone call from the friend before he had a chance. The story ends with a happily married couple, just not the proposal he had planned --so not all bad. Most of my career has been writing brochures, web copy, compelling emails, case studies, invitations, company descriptions, pleas for funding or volunteers for a cause and much more. I have the unique ability to put myself in someone else's spot and determine how to not just capture his/her attention but to act on that emotion. I ask myself: What would make me visit this company? What would make me donate to this cause? What would make me respond to this email? As my husband likes to say, I have the gift of gab, referring to me as the "perfect talking machine" -- which is ideal when you need someone to write conversationally or naturally. This style of writing isn't a turn-off because you don't feel like you are being "sold" something. My talents lie in my ability to tell stories. Convincing people to use your company, product or service is often telling them the story behind why you are in business and how you have helped other clients. Overloading prospective clients with facts and features is necessary at the right time, but initially you have to get them interested in how you can help them achieve their goals. This usually happens because you tell them a good story. Let me tell your story for you. I promise to impress! Thanks for your time and attention. Have a great remainder of your day!
