We had a major remodel done by Rescue 1. We had the wall removed between the kitchen and living room. They replaced the ceiling, walls, flooring, cabinets, plumbing, and electrical. While they were doing the demo, they discovered we had a bad carpenter ant infestation. If they wouldn’t have been doing such a thorough job, I hate to think of how long it would have taken us to discover the damage. If you are looking for quality work, I would recommend them to anyone planning a major remodel project. They will not cut corners nor use sub-standard materials. They made my dream kitchen a reality.

I was asking for quotes on vinyl floor installation. Eddy came in and had such good prices for his hardwood floors, that I was able to afford the hardwood. He and his crew finished timely and did a good job of not leaving a mess. My floors look beautiful. I've already handed Eddy's card out to several people I work with who is looking to have some work done. I would highly recommend Eddy if you're needing this done.

Rueben removed and replaced the tile in our Master Bathroom as well as tiling the shower area replacing the fiberglass bottom. He did a great job and would be our first choice if we decide to remodel other tiled areas.

We are in the process of selling our house, and after checking out potential providers from Thumbtack, I contacted Zimmer Construction on a Saturday concerning the replacement of a shower in the master bath and a problem with our deck. Following our discussion, we came to an agreement and Roy began work the next Monday at 8 am. He explained what he would be doing, when it would be done and why he was doing it as he was. He replaced the walls, the valve system for the plumbing and it's fixtures, the shower floor, the tile, and the door. His work transformed the bath from a dated 70's shower to a very nice looking, updated and rich looking room. He worked diligently at getting every thing 'just right'. The shower is beautiful, and a great addtion to the house. For the deck, we needed some repairs to make it safer. He did a great job, adding a much better appearance to the area. He took what I was wanting done, and came up with some better alternatives for the problems. By the following Saturday, by noon, he had completed the entire project. All in all, we are very satisfied with his performance, his ability to blend our wants with some of his design choices, and that totally improved the results we received. Roy is certainly worth considering as your choice for any work that you need done.

Hardwood and Carpet Installation. Showed up on time, fair price, did what they said they'd do. I would use again if we move, hopefully all done with this house. I'd recommend to others.

We hired Joe for installation of new tile in our master bath, and wanted new carpet in our living room as well. The in-home consultation really worked well for us. We were able to experience everything right there in our home, with no running back and forth to the store. Joe and his team were extremely professional, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about their next fix.

Chris has amazing attention to detail and it is evident in his work. He installed tile in two different bathrooms for us and they looked amazing! No project is too small and he is always willing to help. He is honest, straightforward, and ethical, all difficult qualities to find in a contractor these days.

Cullen repaired part of a shower wall, part of the bathroom floor, and part of a ceiling below - all which suffered water pipe leak damage in a rental house I own. The job took 2 half days, as I recall. Part of the shower wall and the ceiling below had to be re-sheet rocked. Also, some of the shower wall tiles had to be replaced. The shower wall is tiled with early 1970's tiles which are no longer available. Since only the tiles around the faucet and knobs had to be replaced, Cullen searched hard to find something that would look acceptable, if not identical, to the remaining tiles. All turned out looking quite nice. It was a plus to have Cullen working on this project as the tenants speak Spanish - not much English - and Cullen is fluent in Spanish. Absolutely nothing went wrong and I would highly recommend Cullen.

My goal was to completely redo my husbands bathroom while he was on assignment in Arizona for 8 weeks......Becky helped with the complete design of tiled shower with glass doors, colors for the walls and design of a custom cabinetry... She went well beyond to make sure that all my wishes and desires were met as we fit it into my starting budget..(she even hung the custom mirror and pictues her self)...The job was completed just in time for my husbands return and his complete suprise and pleasure of the finished results. Becky was always on time and the quality of the work was top notch. I would recommend her to anyone looking for an honest and excellent decorator......

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

      • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
        • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
