There aren't even words to describe how happy we are that we chose DMZ Productions for our wedding videography. Every single detail was absolutely perfect. Darren and Ben were an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. Their attention to detail, professionalism and creativity were more than we could have asked for. The final highlight video of our wedding is unbelievable and a beautiful treasure we will hold onto forever. Thank you, Darren and Ben, for such a great experience and beautiful video. I highly recommend!!

Gina and Scott were absolutely wonderful for us on our wedding day. We planned a February wedding in three months and they were helpful all along the way. The things I love about them the most are their level of professionalism and expertise. Your wedding photography journey doesn’t begin on the day you get married; it begins on the day you choose your photographer. Prior to the wedding, Gina and Scott were very flexible and open to meeting me at a time and location that was convenient for me. Scott even drove in all the way from Richmond to meet me in Lexington at no charge! During our initial meeting I had several questions and they answered all of them for me and erased any feelings of nervousness. They also had a packet of wedding grouping ideas. They helped me outline exactly which groups I wanted and I’m so glad they did! This saved a lot of time on the day of the wedding because there was no time wasted on which shots would be done. We were able to get a ton of shots in a short amount of time. They also set up my own personal, private Pinterest page. I was able to gather all of my favorite Pinterest wedding shots and include them there so they would know what I liked. The day of the wedding Gina and Scott arrived on time and were prepared. I’ve heard some horror stories from some of my friends about photographers showing up late or running out of battery. Not the case with these two. Professional all the way! Once they arrived they hit the ground running. They began setting up their equipment and testing the lighting situation around the church. My fiancé and I chose to do the first look photos. I’m so glad we did. We saw each other for the first time before the wedding by ourselves. Scott and Gina were taking pictures in the background but we didn’t even notice that they were there. My fiancé and I both agreed that the first look was our favorite part of the whole day. We both can be very shy so it was nice to see each first before anyone else. It was magical. We took all of our formal pictures before the wedding. Gina and Scott were wonderful at setting up our groupings. Taking formal pictures can feel a bit odd but they made the process fun and relaxing. They gave us some really fun photo ideas like the bride and the bridesmaids bumping bouquets and the groomsmen pretending to be jealous of the grooms ring. So much fun! During the wedding I didn’t notice them at all. In fact several of my guests commented on how they barely noticed them either. I loved this! I’ve been to some weddings where the photographer is running around up and down the aisle and creates a distraction. Not these two. They were able to fly under the radar and capture amazing shots. I received my wedding photos retouched after 3 or 4 weeks! Super-fast! Each photo is perfect and I can’t stop looking at them. With all of that said, I couldn’t imagine our wedding day without them. If we could do it all over again we wouldn’t change a thing!

Carmen went above and beyond for my husband and I when shooting our engagement pictures and our wedding! She had a nice blend of common poses but also fun unique ones. She also let me pick some poses that I would love to photograph on our special day. Carmen took the time to sit with me weeks before the wedding to discuss the schedule and what to expect. She kept me calm through all the chaos and had a wonderful spirit! Would definitely recommend her for your big day!

Melanie helped make our wedding day perfect. Her kindness and passion for her work was clear to everyone and made our hours taking pictures a joy instead of a drag. This passion shines through in her pictures and we couldn’t be happier with how they turned out!

We had Paul shoot our wedding. Not just any wedding shoot. This was an outdoor Fire Dept themed wedding and Paul captured all of the special moments, even the ones you would not have expected. He was as invisible during the entire ceremony but caught the special moments as they occurred. He also has great insight on what makes the photo.

Very attentive with bride and groom prior to their wedding. When we needed mics and sound for the outdoor venue he was right there to fulfill our requests. When our video photographer cancelled the night before at 11pm. I called them in the morning and they were able to shot the wedding. Always professional and made a beautiful day even better. Thank you again. The Lyons

The Tacketts did an amazing job with our wedding photos and we are so fortunate to have been introduced to them by other very satisfied friends! We had them do our engagement, fitting/rehearsal/dinner, and wedding/reception pictures. That's at least 14 hours of shooting and at least another 6 hours driving around on our behalf! By having two great photographers working in tandem they were able to get the best view points throughout the whole event. Plus, twice as many photos! They also have a knack for capturing the emotions in the room and for making even the camera-shy people feel comfortable. We are proud that Justin and Ashley were not "just" our photographers ... they were a big part of our special day and our great memories that were made will always include them.

Carrie, is so professional, sweet and patient. We loved working with her. She was so helpful in the wedding planning simply by calming me down when I was freaking out over little details. Hiring CMW Photography was the best decision I made for our wedding. She is extremely talented at what she does.

As a model I have high expectations from the photographers I work with. I want professionalism, a relaxed environment, and of course good pictures! Meeting with Lea was wonderful and since she used to be a model it makes it even better. She knows what the customers want. And what they don't want. (Example of what you don't want: overly photoshopped pics, or that they went too crazy with the dodge and burn tool, not being able to work well or creatively together)  We took photos outside and they were very beautiful, we enjoyed ourself and prior to the actual shoot we'd kept in contact via text. Model release/contract paper was signed, money paid and shortly after I discovered my inbox filled with lovely photos. I cannot wait to work with her again.  Yes you pay for quality pictures but you also want the experience, and to trust in your photographer to make you comfortable. Lea is talented, very sweet and professional. She has fair prices and I recommend her to all of my friends and family. Anyone can pick up a camera and take a photo. But when you have passion mixed with natural talent, that is when you get unforgettable photos.

Brianna photographed my last August wedding and we could not have asked for a more personable, outgoing and professional photographer. Brianna took her time researching photo ideas as well as having my husband and I come up with a list of "MUST TAKE" photos, and Brianna did not miss a single one. She captured our personalities in every picture and was social with our guests and captured so many candid pictures of them that otherwise, my husband and I would have never seen. Brianna is detailed oriented and her bubbly personality makes her so fun to work with! I will always use Brianna for all of my future family pictures!

    About

When I chose my life's path, I turned my attention, passion, and energy towards the kind of picture that blends the watchful eye of a photojournalist, spontaneous photography, poetry or insightful author. I see things that others do not see, and photograph is the language I can speak best. By capturing images, you build a whole collection marked by excitement, love, and warmth that comes from the family who accompanies the bride and groom during a single day. Management and communication experience have been a big help when in my photography career without, at first, theoretical knowledge, technical or artistic. I took a gamble, and the results have been incredible. I took pictures at a wedding as a guest. Immediately, I was recommended to other weddings, so I started investing in this talent. My family first inspired me, especially my son, who feels I am the best photographer in the world. I was transformed into a romantic artist. I chose the wedding ceremony because it is a sublime moment of life. The way I feel composition, decoration, and technical characteristics allow me to capture the live passion and sincere emotions. I make time to meet couples, as well as their friends and family. I shoot with the best-quality devices in the world of photojournalism. It is this and my work that has allowed me to become a member of prestigious organizations, like the Wedding Photojournalist Association and Fearless Photographers. In addition, many couples have trusted me as someone who can provide quality.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
