I have a 13 year old Standard Poodle with bad hips. Stephanie is very gentle and thorough. She was unable to finish because Buster had some issues. She offered to come to my house to finish his grooming. Thank you Stephanie!

Marilyn was great! She took good care of our furry babies and pulled lots of weeds outside. The inside of the house looked super nice, also! I would highly recommend her!!!

I will only call Tracey when I need someone to watch my babies while I am away on trips. She treats them so well. While Tracey is sitting with them, their daily routine does miss a beat. She is the best sitter I have ever had. My babies just adore her and she very much seems to enjoy spending time with them. I do not have to worry about my house or anything in it. I highly recommend Tracey to care for your babies. They will receive the greatest care while you are away. I watch Tracey when she arrives to my house and her face lights up and tails start wagging and the dogs start kissing her. I am not sure who is more excited between the dogs, the cats or Tracey. If you have any questions, feel free to email me : hoghead1@windstream.net Again, I highly recommend Tracey to are for your pets.

Courtney was my house and dog sitter for many years until I moved out of state. I miss her!! She is so sweet, respectful, dependable and LOVES fur babies! My animals (3 dogs and 2 cats) were always so happy to see her and she always updated me on how they were doing when I was away. One of my dogs required daily medicine and she had no problem making sure she got it on time everyday! Courtney was always available, whether I was gone for 2 days or 2 weeks! Courtney always made sure my house was nice and clean for my arrival home! I highly recommend Courtney for house/pet sitting!

A friend of mine recommended April's Pawsitively Petsitting to me. I was very nervous to leave my fur babies with someone I didn't know. However, April sent photos and text messages everyday. The updates really gave me a piece of mind. When I came home I found my house cleaner than it was when I left. She even did my dishes that I forgot to do before I left. I cannot recommend her services enough! She is fantastic at what she does!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
