Aaron and Greenway Landscape did a great job on my lawn (both front and backyard). They trimmed by shrubs and cleaned up my yard going into winter and it looks fantastic.

R.C. LawnScaping is the best landscaping company I've encountered. They work hard to get your job done right and are super friendly. They completed a job to clean up my mom's back patio by removing weeds and brush, removing old river rock, pulling up an old weed liner and put down a new liner, new plants and mulch. The space looks like new. I would recommend them to anyone looking to have some landscaping work done.

Jeffery is very professional and very knowledgeable. He listed each part of work and gave an individual analysis of each job in our yard. He also spent a great amount of time explaining questions and concerns I had about shrubs and trees. If I were staying in Louisville I would have him work with my yard on a seasonal basis. Thank you Jeffery. I am sorry.

Logan did a good job, but the first couple of times he showed up by himself. The job was quite a large one, replacing several shrubs and trimming all the others around the house. At first he was to only remove and replace two rose bushes, but getting into the job we found several other shrubs were bad and needed to be replaced. He did this with out problem but it did take him several days to complete the job. Part of that was ordering the new shrubs. He did bring in another person to help him after a couple of days and completed the job as agreed. It did take him a bit longer than I expected, but he did get the job completed to my satisfaction.

I was asked by an elderly neighbor to help him find someone to take care of his lawn. I can't comment on 'work quality' as the project hasn't been completed. But, I can tell you I initially had 6 responses to my request for lawncare right away. Four of them told me they would be out and never bothered to come or call me back. I couldn't believe it... 4 out of the 6! I was feeling pretty hopeless. Thinking I wouldn't be able to find anyone to help my neighbor with what he needed. Eric, of Lougrass also responded quickly. He showed up when he said he would and was quick to respond to texts when I had questions. He was professional and polite and worked with my neighbor to find a price point that worked for him within his budget. He also took the time to touch base with me and explain what needed to be done. My neighbor was grateful I was able to find a person he feels is trustworthy and of whom he is comfortable with. I have no doubt the quality of the work will be stellar and I'll update my review when the work is completed.

I can’t say enough good things about this full service lawn care company! Not only was my landscaping perfect, but Brad’s personality and professionalism was unmatched by any other services I’ve used. I hired him to comeback during the fall season for leaf removal, and will no question be contacting Patriot in the future for all of my lawncare needs.

The knowledge and expertise regarding drainage systems as well as grading the yard, laying sod and planting shrubs was awesome. The design and implementation of all aspects of the landscaping was great.

Joel and his staff did an amazing job. He stepped up with just a few hours notice after the the first company I contacted failed to show up for 2 straight days. It was important to get it done as I was out of town and the grass was getting long. My wife was stressed and I was not having success getting any other company interested without a long wait. This is now my go to company for lawn care needs . Great people who do quality work.

Joseph and his crew did a total overhaul of my landscaping. They had some great ideas and the final product looks great. They work hard to please their customers. I would definitely recommend them for any landscaping project. They stand behind their work and replacement policy if any of the plants or bushes die.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

      • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
      • Read online reviews of client experiences.
      • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
      • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
      • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
