I needed my countertops taken out last minute, and Thomas was able to come to the rescue. Within hours of requesting a quote on Thumbtack, he was at my house demo-ing my kitchen counters. They completed the work in a timely matter and did an amazing job. He does complete home remodeling, so I will definitely be calling him again for other projects in my house!

I hired Interior Design Group after my home flooded. I wanted some recommendations on remodeling my bathroom while doing repairs from the flood. Shelley was a great help. Although she was initially hired to help with the bathroom, she walked throughout the house and gave other recommendations that we had never thought of to update the house. She was a pleasure to work with. We are now back in our house and love our new bathroom and all the improvements we made based on Shelley's recommendations.

I am looking forward to amending this review if we can get our renovation finished. The biggest problem started when the 3rd floor addition was not tarped properly and it rained on first floor which is our living and dining room. So, we had to completely clear those rooms out. Which has led to us only being able to live in two rooms of our house. They treated their mess up like another part of the renovation and they STILL have not replaced the floors NOR hooked up the AC to the be other side of the house. My kitchen is literally Hell’s Kitchen. With two small kids, who both finish school this week, I don’t think I have to tell you how hard it is to not have even the part of the house that WAS supposed to be functional throughout the renovation working. See photos. Also, my yard is still a mess. Full of rusty nails and a rusty saw blade and the dumpster that hasn’t been taken away yet. So can’t send the kids outside. Bill didn’t include the windows as part of our estimate - so be aware of that. I find that fascinating. He also is claiming not to “remember” the original plans to demolish the stairs and rebuild them - a $5000 part of the renovation - even after haggling with us about windows - he said “he doesn’t remember” that the stairs were part of the estimate. I would like that off the top of the price. So- I sincerely look forward to amending this review if they can get their stuff together and finish this up. As a counter to the negativity - the upstairs work is beautiful.

I have worked with warren on lots of different jobs, from changing a lock on a door to renovating my commercial office. He is very organized and very good at keeping a job on track. He has a strong opinion on design; which is great when you are not exactly sure what you want, but he will do what you want him to do, if like me you have a strong design opinion. He always wants his product to be exceptional and always works for a solution if that standard is not maintained. He just finished a job for me and I'm sure it won't be to long before I'm calling him for something else. By the way, I live in a house built in 1933 and there isn't one wall or any floor in my house that is level or plumb. He was always on time but if there was a problem he always called to keep you informed.

Sahene Construction LLC did a roof and flooring job for us back in 2012 and help rebuilt our home in 2016 after a flood. Sahene Construction LLC were the only contractor's that we considered for the rebuild, and was working in our home before the water fully receded. They worked non-stop to allow us to move home in time to celebrate Christmas in a house that was even better than before the flood. They also worked with our insurance adjuster as an advocate on our behalf. We'll always be grateful for everything Sahene Construction LLC did for us during a difficult time.

Amanda performed interior design and construction services for our new house design and build. She has an uncanny ability to sense what your design wishes are and translate them into executable prints. She totally designed our kitchen and bath layouts complete with cabinet layouts, appliance, and plumbing choices. Everything fit and worked out beautifully from an aesthetic and functional view even down to the choice of paint colors. Amanda's construction crews installed flooring, did painting, and installed some incidentals such as a gas fireplace. All was to our complete satisfaction. Not to be overlooked in Amanda's strengths is her ability to provide creative solutions. We are into cooking and Amanda developed a kitchen design that included two full size ovens with a cook top between. The cooktop is "sunken" relative to the ovens providing a unique custom design. We also had an architectural design problem with two corner windows over the kitchen sink. Due to the roof line, the windows would have been too high to see out of. She came up with an idea of a full size garden window on the side without roof line problems and a reflective mirror on the other. Hence, we have the desired view with what appears to be two full sized windows. Bottom line is that we recommend her services highly. She is a talented creative designer.

They are the best! Got 3 estimates for a kitchen remodel last summer. They were in the middle, but I was impressed by his quick response when I contacted him for estimates and any questions I had. He actually returns phone calls and answers his phone. They did a fantastic job. It took them about 6 days to do what we needed. We replaced bottom cabinets and countertops; so they had to take off all the hardware and upper cabinet doors and paint all upper cabinets and new bottom cabinets to match, as well as kitchen. We have a large kitchen for a small house and we kept the backsplash and we have lots of windows and a door with lots of small panes of glass, so it was a tedious job. They did not track any paint in the rest of the house and cleaned up after themselves. They are extremely honest. When I had to leave I told them to lock up after themselves. I used them again in the Spring to replace wood on porch and under eaves and paint outside. Once again, it turned out to be worse than we thought with rotten wood underneath porch ceiling. They replaced partial beams and all wood and then painted. They are excellent carpenters and painters. We are going to use them again for a bathroom after the holidays. You will not find a better group for remodeling. I have used many over the last 10 years and none compare to Mr. Sanchez. We are very happy to have finally found someone to fix our list of projects.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
