I had a tall pecan tree removed and the stump ground out. High Tops was able to remove the tree, haul away the wood and grind the stump for much cheaper price than my other bids. They were able to do it quickly and safely and cleaned up afterward, extremely well.

DEAR HERBERT LAND MOVERS, THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU ARE MY #1 GO TO GUYS FOR EVERYTHING FROM NOW ON.. Let me tell you how excellent Herbert Land Movers & Company is. In the process of doing a complete renovation at one property that had drainage issues, I contacted many companies to come and walk through how they could solve each of the projects and the problems. Most never showed up and the few that did, made complete unreasonable quote and offer work that didn't even need to be done to fix the drainage issue and could not even complete the task in which i hired them for. #1. Luckily for me, I found and I hired Herbert Land Movers to come in and level/grade my front yard and within 1 hour, Herbert & Company was able to level, grade and completely fix my drainage issue WITHOUT overcharging or making excuses or dragging out the work required. { Later on, Herbert also returned in the middle of thunderstorm to watch and ensure that the rain drained away and flowed away from my property. FOR FREE & WITH ME HAVING TO ASK} I have been trying to get that fixed for almost a year. Hebert Land Movers fixed in with in an hour.... AWESOME. #2. At the same time Herbert's crew was finishing up working in the front yard, two different companies were attempting to complete renovations on other parts of the property, Herbert began taking notes of what was needed to be done and what the other companies should have been doing and what equipment should have been brought to complete those jobs correctly. As the another companies were attempting to clear and remove unwanted soil from the back yard and another company was hired to removed 4 mid size trees. Constantly delays and breaks was making these jobs drag on. The tree company crew could not even completely cut down 1 tree without constantly taking breaks and walking back and forth to their truck and then one of the two man crew just left, due to a "prior engagement" Herbert witness this complete lack of work ethic and pride and informed me that his crew also professionally removed trees, I was so thankful to here this news and after seeing what he completed in the front yard, I fired that company and hired Herbert Land Movers again on the spot and before the now "1 man tree company" could even complete the 1st tree, Herbert & Company was working on the 3rd and 4th tree cut down and removal. Herbert completed all 3 trees in what seemed as less time than the other company cut down 1 tree and Herbert removed the all 4 trees at no extra charge. AWESOME #3. After witnessing the pure skill and efficiency and effectiveness of Herbert Land Movers crew, I fired the other crew, which was here all morning and hired Herbert crew to complete the side and back yard property work. I was so satisfied with the skill and talent of Herbert Land Movers I asked what else do they do for property and Home and was blown away by the abundance of talents I had before me and hire them again on the spot. #4. After Herbert's crew finished the side yard and back I hired them to fix, redo and continue what the other companies took weeks to start. #5. Then I hire Herbert to design and rebuild and completely new fence, I wanted something different and that would allow for a total escape from the outside and he began with an 8ft high fence and instead of a typical 4ft wide door, Herbert's crew added an 7.5ft wide gate which would allow easy of moving large thing in and out with no problem and to ensure the weather would not be any problems, they used 8x8 post at all the corner and to hold the gate. SUPER AWESOME #6. In the process of Herbert Land Movers building my new fence, my neighbor was so impressed with all the work they have done, she hire them on the spot to completely tear up, remove and rebuild her old deck. SUPER JOB #7. After the her deck was built, she was so impressed with Herbert's work, she hired them to completely tear down and rebuild her fence to match mine.... AWESOME #8. After both of our massive new fence was completed, I hire Herbert Land Movers & Company to completely tear down, remove and rebuild 2 large 32ft K style gutters and 2 23ft K style gutter with 4 large circular downspouts. EXCELLENT WORK. #9. I hired Herbert crew again to repair all the drywall holes with in the ceiling laundry room, upstairs bedroom and up stair bathroom. #10. I hire Herbert Land Movers to Install my barn door, I'm just awaiting the door to com in. #11. I will hire Herbert Land Movers to install my 2nd floor bedroom and loft wood flooring. #12. I will hire Herbert Land Movers to renovate the upstair bathroom. #13. My neighbor will hire Herbert Land Movers to renovate her entire kitchen and both her bathrooms #14 She will also hire them to make and install her roof gutters. #15. My other neighbor on the other side of my property, who was also greatly impressed with Herbert Land Movers, hired them on the spot to dig up his old failed corrugated drainage system, tied in and correctly redirected and build a new 4" PVC drainage system. THANK YOU HERBERT... AWESOME JOBS, GREAT PRICES AND FAST QUALITY WORKMANSHIP. I WILL HIRE HERBERT LAND MOVERS AGAIN AND HAVE RECOMMENDED THEM TO EVERYONE I KNOW FOR ANY WORK THEM NEED ON THEIR PROPERTIES.....

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
