Ken offered great resume and LinkedIn advice. I found his insight to be very helpful, especially as I am navigating a big career change. Having not worked with a career coach before, it would have been good to get a clearer picture of his services/better understanding of what to expect from the outset... but the overall substance and style of his work was excellent.

Three months ago, I knew that I wanted to make a career transition but didn't know how to achieve that goal. I felt overwhelmed and was spinning my wheels. Enter Deb Goldstein. After just 1 hour of meeting with Deb, she was serving up gobs of value! Later she sent detailed notes with homework assignments we'd discussed to help me inch closer to my goal. Our sessions continued in this pattern for the next 2 months and I followed Deb's guidance after each time we met. What happened next surprised me. I received a better opportunity than the type I was originally targeting, a job that was more aligned with my long term goals. Had I even received an intermediate job offer that quickly, I would have been thrilled, but the offer I got exceeded my expectations. I wouldn't have received such a gift without learning and following Deb's skilled guidance. I will never approach a future job search the same way again. Deb is a gifted investigator, career therapist, cheerleader, and muse in a single package. She will shepherd you through her organized, thoughtful process, always going at your pace. Deb digs deep with her questions and helps you discover what you want from your career and how to craft your personal brand. She does all of this without telling you what she thinks you want, empowering you to own the process and try new things. Deb will open your mind to a better way of job searching and career building. I will gladly hire Deb again if I need career advice in the future.

I hired Jane as a Life Coach because I am going through a life transition and seeking a new path that reflects the growth I have managed over the last several. I spent many years in an emotionally abusive marriage where my feelings were dismissed, my dreams squelched and my intellect ridiculed. As a single parent in the ten years between now and then, I had little time to pursue dreams or new careers, but I was away from the bullying and able to finally begin to blossom and to value myself. Now my children are grown and I'm ready to take the next step, but I realized that I could not do it alone. The conditioning was still too strong. I wanted someone to help, to bounce things off of, to give me perspective and to keep me from falling into ambivalence and indecision in the face of that inner critic. Jane has been that person. She has a wonderful combination of kindness and straightforwardness. She spent our first session just listening, giving her full attention to where I had been and where I was at. The validation of that alone, was worth gold to me. She has the ability to listen in a way that is deep and that helps you hear yourself, and trust yourself. We are still working towards my goals, which she is helping me identify and stay true to. The more I work with her the more solid and confident I become in my dreams and the quieter that echo of the bully becomes. I highly recommend Jane for anybody who is in a transition period of their life--especially if you have been the victim of abuse--and is looking for someone who can provide support, structure and firm but gentle guidance. She never, never tells you what to believe or who you are or what you want. She helps you find your own way there.

Ian did an excellent job! I am mid-life in career and needed someone to update my resume. Ian combined all of my work experience, updated my layout and advised me on what content was important. I was proud of my resume after Ian completed it. Resumes are so important and I couldn't have trusted it with anyone better. Ian offers other services, as well. I will be utilizing every resource that Ian can offer. He's intelligent, strategic and, above all, an honest & interesting guy. Thank you, Ian.

I first contacted Shannon because I was no longer enjoying the career I had chosen and, consequently, I felt trapped and unhappy in my job. Before Whole U came into my life, I spent over four years on a seemingly endless journey looking for answers to what I was truly passionate about. Even during our preliminary phone conversation, it was clear that Shannon has a different approach than any other career counselor or advising agency I’d been to. For the first time, I felt that someone actually understood what I was going through. After our initial session together, I realized that she not only has the skills and connections to facilitate a successful career transition but she’s dedicated to helping you look inside yourself and discover what your true passions are. I immediately noticed a transformation in the way I perceive life, and the way I think of myself. I began seeing possibilities where I never imagined there would be. Over the course of our five sessions together, we worked on visualizing my ideal job, narrowing down my personal and professional interests, developing a method for writing compelling cover letters and took a professional looking photo for LinkedIn. I am now confident that I have a positive and meaningful direction to go in and concrete steps to take in getting there. Whole U gave me the creative skills, personal connections and, most importantly, the confidence to believe that I can turn the life I envision into reality.

Before working with Ciara, I was feeling like I'd hit a wall in my career and was trying to figure out what my next move would be—the problem was, I had a ton of conflicting reasons to stay at my job vs. applying to new jobs. My goal going into working with Ciara was to (A.) Identify where these career-oriented mental blocks were coming from and (B.) work through my reservations and ultimately decide whether I should stay and continue to learn in my current role or move on to a new opportunity The number one breakthrough I had while working was Ciara, was that my self-doubt was ultimately getting in the way of my decision-making. Once Ciara provided a few helpful resources and exercises—like introducing me to Gallup’s ‘Strength Finder’—I felt like I had the tools to begin conquering my negative thoughts and start working towards my goal of determining the next steps in my career Through working with Ciara, I decided to start applying to new jobs outside of my current company. Though I still feel like my current position provides excellent learning opportunities, I now know I have a wealth of experience to apply elsewhere, so I’m starting my job search now before potentially becoming “burned out”.

Testimonial: Individual Therapy A bit less than a year ago, following a series of unfortunate events in my life, I had reached a really low point. Emotionally, mentally and physically drained, I knew that I needed to find the strength to continue living, and out of sheer desperation, I finally reached out to Rita, It was the best decision I ever made. Over the past 10 months, she has helped me experience growth that for me was unimaginable. In a loving and compassionate manner, she has helped me to identify both the destructive behavior patterns that led to my subsequent bouts of depression as well as the traumatic events and family history that contributed to the creation of these destructive patterns. Most importantly, she has taught me how to change these destructive patterns and replace them with positive, healthy, self-affirming ones. In less than a year, Rita has positively influenced almost every aspect of my life. I am learning to identify and arrest addictive behaviors, replace negative thought patterns with positive self-talk and eliminate unhealthy behaviors and toxic people from my life. I am practicing self-love and becoming my “best self.” As a result, my marriage and family relationships have improved and my career continues to blossom. I have lost over 45 pounds and I am finally learning what it means to be truly happy, healthy and whole -- mind, body and spirit. I am learning to clearly identify my goals and attain them. I totally attribute my growth to working with Rita. There is an old saying: “The sick mind doesn’t know that it’s sick.” Whether it is in your personal or professional life, Rita's incredible talent lies in her ability to assist you with identifying (and sometimes just acknowledging) the source of your pain or whatever it is that may be holding you back. More importantly, she accompanies you on the path of self-healing, and provides the tools necessary to complete the journey. That is Rita’s gift to her clients. It is a gift that is priceless. --Anonymous in Massachusetts

After my call with David, I had a list of priorities to help me reach my goals. I was most impressed by the questions he asked and how I was able to decide what was the next right thing to do in my career. I had scheduled appointments with other career coaches to help me on my path, BUT after my first call with David, I knew that he was speaking the truth in my situation.

      What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

      What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

      • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
      • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
      • Defining your career goals
      • Creating a plan for job searching
      • Improving networking strategies and skills
      • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
      • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
      • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

      Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

      • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
      • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
      • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
      • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
      • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
      • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
      • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
