I called Neil to fix my dishwasher, he returned my call within an hour. We set up an appointment, he showed up on time, fixed the problem to my satisfaction and charged me a fair price. I would hire Neil again.

We had Roy to fix our dishwasher and he did an excellent job. He changed the part that wasn't working and it didn't work because of a specially difficult setting issue. He came back and after some research he managed to fix it. He saved us buying a new one and was very professional. Highly recommend his service.

Jason O'Brien was prompt, professional, courteous, pleasant and a pleasure to deal with. He was able to get my older Maytag dishwasher running again quickly, without the need for additional parts. I found his service charge to be quite reasonable. I will definitely call him again if I have any problems with other appliances. He has my highest recommendation!

Refrigerator Defroster fan and motor repair needed: I had initially set up an appointment through Home Advisor and after waiting for the repair person all morning for an 11-1 appointment, was informed he was not coming. I immediately contacted Thumbtack and RNC not only responded but when asked if they could come the same day, they showed up 30 minutes later. I am so incredibly thankful for their service, I cannot praise them enough!!!! If you need any refrigerator repair done, call this company! Geri Lambert - Brookline

The repair person showed up, asked for a hundred dollar service fee, then he said that the dishwasher needs a thermofuse and he will back the next day with the part. He never showed up again. My dishwasher still broken and I am out $100.

My tech was not only professional and knowledgable but didn't try and sell me anything I didn't need. I had several things fixed including a washer pump and I was very pleased with the quality of work performed. In comparison to some of the other guys - I felt I got the best value for the services performed. Appliance repair can be expensive, these guys are fair.

These guys were fantastic. I called them on short notice and they were able to install a dishwasher and remove the old one. They were on time, they picked up after themselves....and even took a little time to fix the cabinet (that was broken before they arrived). Would definitely use them again.

A glass has broken in my dishwasher, and after about a month my dishwasher was clogged and full of water. I have called SmartApplianceInc, and was able to schedule my appointment on the same night. Repairman was able to clean my original part, which was great, cause I did not have to order it and wait for it to come. Over all it took a little over an hour. Repairman was very knowledgeable and professional.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
