Lamar and George had to be the nicest, most professional movers I've ever hired! They were polite, efficient, and concerned for the condition of my furniture. Also, Alex quoted us a great price, and there were no surprises when it came time to pay. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a reasonably priced, smooth move.

Eric and Carl did a wonderful job packing my moving truck and car with several pieces of furniture and about 50 boxes. They were careful with fragile items and packed the truck so well that nothing shifted during the drive.

John and his team were very professional, quick, and courteous. They helped me move my things from one apartment to another in the same town. None of my furniture was knicked; none of my fragile things were broken. They did a great job and seemed like truly lovely people. As many of the reviews have stated, they were a little late. But, they were extremely accommodating when I asked to make a second stop to pick up a couple of love seats when I saw there was room in the truck--and the charge for the extra stop was minimal. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend them to a friend or hire them again. I should also mention that John was very responsive to messages I sent him via Thumbtack. Every message I sent (and I sent more than a few) were responded to within 24 hours. Impressive stuff, especially around September 1 in Boston.

What a pleasure to deal with courteous and responsible experts. They promptly answered my questions in advance, gave me a window of arrival and showed up exactly at the beginning of that window. They had no problem planning two pickups (estate sale purchases) so I could keep my costs down. They blanketed and taped the antique furniture and secured it. And they hustled to get the furniture moved into its new location, including setting up the queen bed frame in a flash. I'll definitely use them again!

One of the best experiences- Our move-in was delayed a month due to permits on the new apartment and Jack was SO accommodating for us- We had to reschedule THREE times, and he was always responsive and understanding each time. He fit us into their busy schedule during one of the busiest move weeks. I have never seen guys move furniture so quickly as if it was light as air- They did a fantastic job. Great group of guys with a sense of humor while they are sweating and lugging heavy furniture up and down stairs. Would definitely recommend them and use them again!

We had hired them for moving our 1st floor contents of our home to make way for a construction project. They were on time and were extremely professional. They did it in record time. We are looking forward to having them bring back the furniture from the storage facility in a few months.

We had a long distance move from Salem, MA to Maryland. Lexel quoted us the lowest rate by far compared to other movers in the area. They moved us out on a Tuesday morning and delivered everything to our new home by the next day. All of their staff was curteous and polite. They reassembled the furniture that they had to take apart with care. All of the furniture was also wrapped very well and nothing was significantly damaged.

I wish I could leave more than 5 stars!!! I can’t recommend them highly enough. I have moved 11 times, in 4 different states, over the past 18 years. This was, without doubt, the easiest and most stress free move because of John. John and his team are professional, patient, understanding, highly skilled, and most of all they have high integrity. They were complete gentleman. I also couldn’t believe how fast they worked! Thank you so very much, John!

I definitely recommend using D&D Removal if you need to have furniture removed. Andrew and his partner were polite, called me to let me know they would be about 10 minutes late due to traffic, handled the removal of my sofa bed efficiently and were done within 15 minutes. Andrew also told me that they will often donate usable wooden furniture rather than remove it to a junkyard. I would use them again if the need ever arises.

I had a somewhat complicated move yesterday with pick up of furniture in two locations and drop offs in three different towns. My experience with Round the Clock Moving was excellent. The movers arrived a bit early which was a great start. They were patient, flexible and as nice as could be. They were great to work and I highly recommend them.

He really worked with us to get the furniture removed from the apartment. We were running on a tight time crunch and he was able to work around that with us. Easy to reach and responded back quickly and professional. Overall, good experience, no hustle with the hiring process.

JP Moving went above and beyond to quickly and carefully move our furniture from our 2 PODS containers into our 3 story house. They helped me reorganize my storage area and helped me reassemble my furniture. During the move it started raining and they kept working until the job was done. Payment and invoice was instantaneous and easy. I would recommend to friends and I'll be using thier services again when I move again.

They were great, took really good care of my furniture and goods. I had a lot of fragile stuff and everything came in perfect condition. They take their time, but it is worth it because they make sure they take good care of your furniture/goods. The only problem with me was that they started a little later than they had planned, but it turned out ok. I highly recommend their service.

My move was an in town move from one house to another house 4 miles apart. I have a lot of large pieces of furniture including antiques. They called 30 minutes prior to arriving, arrived on time, and were professional, courteous, careful, and very efficient. They took proper care of all of my furniture wrapping items individually and were careful moving everything out of and into my new home. I would definitely use them again.

Bart was exceptional to work with. He is an honest, good person, easy to communicate with and completely reliable. He arrived on time, worked steadfastly. He put together furniture I had bought from Wayfair in a very competent and organized manner. Everything was well done and he was very pleasant to work with. I have will have more furniture to assemble and look forward to working with him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
