Mr Sosa submitted a quote after I had rang and submitted many enquiries to many contractors for work attaching new ducting to old ducting. I choose Mr Sosa because he said he would do the work today. Other contractors made undertakings later and I needed this work done to allow other works to proceed. During the day Mr Sosa made undertakings both by phone and the message system on this website he would do the work today. I waited until 10pm for him to arrive but he never did the work. From my experience I find the undertakings of doing timely results not being met. From my experience I would advise extreme caution when dealing with Mr Sosa.

Was very professional and presented himself well. I had other HVAC companies out and did not take time to give the right options like Dan did. I am now waiting to meet again with Dan and confirm contract

I had Mark work on both of my homes. His work was very professional. A friend of mine (a general contractor), and several other people asked me who I had install my outdoor shower on my Cape home, as they thought it "looked great". His prices are very fair and I would highly recommend him.

Our heat pump broke down so we called a company out to take a look then they told me they can fix but the cost would be so high that they recommend that I should consider a new heat pump so I told them I will think about it . So I went on Thumbtack for a second opinion I got in contact with Remedy Cooling and Heating Remy came take a look at my heat pump run some diognostic told me that the heat pump need freion and one welding he told me what it would cost, how long the work would take , very upfront and honest very hard to find in these days . Remy did not charge me to come out and check on my heat pump and run diognostic on the unit very honest. All I can say from now and for the foreseeable future he is my go to HVAC contractor . Mark W

Because I grew up in a stuffy house without cooling, I was always miserable in the summers. It was my childhood dream to own a house with central cooling. In 2017, we bought a house without cooling, but Currier was able to remedy that. We hired Currier to install cooling in our entire home. They also installed heating in the finished part of our basement. Starting the process, I got quotes from three contractors. Currier stood out from the other contractors for the following reasons: 1. Proposed the best solution for the house and not whatever was easiest to install 2. Clearly explained the solution. One contractor said he would put a ductless unit in a certain spot because it fit but did not consider the room layout. 3. Well priced. They weren’t the cheapest solution, but also not the most expensive. Currier was able to start the work right away. They were accommodating with our schedules. At the beginning of each week, we would tell Mark which days and partial days we could be available and Mark made the arrangements. Mark was very responsive with e-mail. The overall process took longer than expected due to unforeseen situations. There was a lot of concrete between the floors, the ceiling had tight clearances, the thermostats needed rewiring, etc. But the crew worked through the challenges. The crew was courteous and polite, and cleaned up every day before leaving. We now have cooling in what feels like one of the more humid summers in recent history. We are thankful for the Currier team for making it possible.

Henry responded within minutes after I posted my request for help with our radiator leak. He was at our house in less than an hour and he fixed every radiator in our house. I can't say enough about how much we appreciated his help. We have asked Rite Temp Heating Company to do some more plumbing work for us.

Amazing!!! I sent an email on Sunday night during one of the 90° weeks with a down HVAC unit and pretty low expectations. Received a response the same night and had Jose out to check out the problem Tuesday p.m. He returned 9AM with three-man crew and had problem resolved before noon. It wasn't free but it was a very fair price combined with very professional prompt quality work. I just spent two years on an addition dealing with more contractors, subcontractors, and tradesmen than I care to remember but this guy is the real deal and does what he says he is going to do when he says he's going to do it and that's getting pretty rare these days. I'm not big on writing comments but this guy deserves the five stars and you deserve to have this guy doing competent work in your home. Al W.

North Shore HVACR was a lifesaver, the AC was gone in two rental units. Another contractor had transportation issues getting the job done (it happens), however we were now in a heat wave the day before the 4th of July. Lewis' team came to the rescue, even on the holiday, and had both units cooling off our great tenants in no time. This level of professional dependability is a treasured asset.

Few times in my life I write about a company. This crew came to my home last night after suffering 2 other plumbing contractors whom I told what unit I have, swore they were well versed, couldn't restore my heating system. now its 1:45 am my home now 48 degrees and fearful of a total freeze-up. Called a friend who I remembered boasting about the plumber who came over a few weeks ago to get his personal cell number. He responded in 40 minutes and worked until my high efficiency unit was fired up again. He had a computer gadget hooked up to it that the other 2 monkeys didn't have and saw the problem, corrected it and we are the better for it. Sir, a true gentleman, and a special thanks dealing with my wife and crying kids. Hire this firm if you have serious issues and send the monkeys to the zoo. Thank you Vincent, get some sleep.

I had a newer AC unit stop working on me right when it was outside its warranty. The contractor who installed it was absolute trash with whom I had a litany of problems so I tried Modern Air HVAC. I really wish I would have had these guys from the start to do the initial work. Jeremy/Modern Air came out within 48 hours of my Thumbtack request. Despite attempts to repair the unit he stopped at parts that needed to be special ordered and told me flat out that the unit that was initially installed was some off-brand POS that is essentially built to fail. He was willing to order parts for me to fix it but in the end he told me I'd be saving myself a lot of money and issues down the road to just replace the condenser with something more reliable. I did some research on my own and basically found this all to be true and the price Jeremy/Modern Air quoted me for a new unit was more than reasonable. Within a week I had a brand new condenser unit, 5 year warranty on everything, and an HVAC guy that not only knew his stuff but was trustworthy, reliable, and did the little things like reply to texts and phone calls and let you know if he was going to be running behind. All things considered it would have been hard to disappoint me based on the first company I had hired, but I really felt like Modern Air HVAC went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right and that I was happy. I highly recommend these guys for any HVAC issues!

I felt that Brandon was honest. As a lay person, I'm at the mercy of a technician or contractor and believe many blow up the charges and the work that needs to be done to inflate their price. He explained what needed to be done and why. Brandon was also very personable. He is now on my referral list should anyone need an hvac. Brandon is not making a fast buck but he is making life long clients.

We woke up to 2 degrees Fahrenheit and NO HEAT! We tried reaching our regular gas furnace maintenance contractor and several other local contractors without any luck. When we found Tim through Thumbtack we were so grateful. He quickly assessed our issue over the phone, purchased the part and got to our house that same day. Thank goodness! Not only is a he a professional but very personable too. We plan to contract Tim again to install a humidifying system. Thanks Tim!

Chris installed a new ac condenser (Bryant) and air handler (First Co). He was great! He delivered everything he contracted to do. He was efficient, clean, thorough, professional, and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend including him among the hvac contractors you consider for your work. He’s “into” what he does, and cares about the product of his work. We were very happy with Chris as our choice.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Jake came in and pretty much saved my ac unit after it had been fried by another HVAC technician. He was at my home for hours making sure my unit was up and running and truly went above and beyond. We will definitely use him again, he is extremely knowledgable and had so many of the parts needed on hand already which saved a lot of time.

I don't always do this, but I wanted to leave a few words regarding Steve Cecilio and ecco HVAC.I recently had an echo and Steve out here to install a Mitsubishi Mr Slim air conditioning system. When I had begun looking for HVAC contractors, Steve, Jim and ECCO were the first to respond and their quote was the best. When Steve and Jim came out on the day of the installation, they were so nice and very professional. Their two employees were also awesome. Anyway, they did a great job and I love my new system. And it's so easy to use! I am recommending them to all of my friends and family. Thank you ECCO!!!! 👍

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
