I can't say enough about the service. My daughter Jessica took the ACT 3x and was stuck at a 26. She spent 2 months studying with Prep Scholar at about 5 hours per week and raised her score to a 31.She is a junior with some time left as well to study and take it again. I figure it just saved us $100k plus. She would not have been able to do it without Prep Scholar. If you have a student and they are discipline you will get the results out of Prep Scholar. I tell everyone I meet with kids taking the exams to use it. I have never written one of these reviews before but it is an incredible program and to see the excitement in my daughter's face when she got her results was tremendous. Prep's process is unique. Don't cut corners and take the 5 practice tests under test conditions and you will see results.This is the best money we have ever spent!

One parent's perspective...

Having a child with college aspirations of the highest level can be both rewarding as well as stressful. Years of dedicated academic work, combined with a decade pursuing athletic accomplishment at a national level, and in-the-end, it all came down to one single test score. The first time, not unlike most, we signed our child up for one of the major online courses along with live group sessions (I have no interest in disparaging any other course and many offer the same thing, so theres no reason to cite names). The first test produced ok scores, but not exceptional. So we went on the hunt for a better prep program.

We found, by chance, Prep Scholar, and after an hour-long conversation with Fred Zhang, one of the founders, it was clear he understood our goals. Fred fully understands the hurdles and the level of achievement necessary to get into the top schools. Fred matched our child with a personal tutor he felt was best suited to the way our child learns. To say there was pressure on this test would be an understatement, as time was clicking by quickly.

Our child did the requisite online coursework, and yes, as others state, the way the online course is designed is better (in our opinion) than the other courses we assessed. However, I dont feel this is really the super differentiation factor; rather it was the 15 hours of tutoring. I cannot say enough great things about our childs tutorshe is exceptionally smart, focused on the goal at hand, and encouraging where needed.

I believe for any program to be successful; successful as defined by a decent increase in the childs score, it is necessary to complete all the online material and engage in personal tutoring (I wish someone had told us this), and be seriously motivated to achieve, not merely go through the motions.

As Paul Harvey says, now for the rest of the story... Our child actually got the advertised increase in his test score. The end result, which came a few months later, is that he will be attending his first choice among the Ivies.

I have never written a review previously, and this will most likely be the last one I write. Prep Scholar is aware that we accomplished the goal for which we are most appreciative. They asked if we would kindly write something, and I am more than happy to oblige, as our experience with Prep Scholar did not fail to deliver!

After reviewing multiple companies to use to help my son study for the ACT (he is a senior), I decided on PrepScholar. This decision was not taken lightly; I made phone calls, studied their websites, and read reviews. PrepScholar from the very beginning was incredibly helpful, answering all my questions. Once my son started his classwork, I loved the customization of each lesson, helping him in the areas he needed the most help. After my son's first one on one tutoring session (via skype), my son's enthusiasm for what he had learned was amazing. The tutor walked through the areas my son was struggling and explained in detail what he was doing wrong. My son's confidence was so much higher walking into the test, and he raised his score from a 28 to a 30 after just a little over a month tutoring. I wish we had started this program when he was a junior - I truly believe if he had more time, he would have raised it easily to a 32 or higher. Thank you PrepScholar! And I even sent them an e-mail AFTER he was finished with the class, and they answered it quickly. Great customer service!

Our founders and SAT/ACT instructors always stay on top of changes to the SAT and ACT. We also stay up to date with the best practices of education and technology in general so that you get the best student experience.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
We were fed up with expensive SAT/ACT prep classes that cost a lot without delivering results. We figured out how to master the SAT and ACT, and we created PrepScholar to share our strategies with you. By being online, we save on a lot of overhead costs that other companies suffer from, which means we can lower our price and work with many more students. Education is an incredibly important problem in this country. We're getting started in education by working on a test that matters the most to student's college applications - the SAT/ACT exams.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure the prep program you decide to use has everything you need. Students don't have the time to compensate for any missing pieces of a study program. Your ideal prep program will have: -customization to your strengths and weaknesses -detailed study lessons to teach you content -thousands of realistic practice questions -detailed answer explanations so you can learn from your mistakes -motivational features to keep you studying -helpful customer support Each one of these is important to maximizing your score results. Even if you don't work with us in the end, you need to choose a program with all these aspects.
