Molly was simply fabulous. We went to her for couples counseling and she was direct, firm and on point. I could not imagine a better therapist. Our experience was positive and she helped saved a relationship that was headed in the wrong direction. Thank you.

Jeff is awesome. I started training with him after having our second child, to get back in shape and back into a routine. He focuses on your goals, target areas, all while understanding the changes we go through after having a baby! I appreciate that he takes the time to get feedback after each session. He always spends more time than the allotted time, and is able to work around my work schedule, which varies because of call, etc. He also comes to the gym in my building which is a huge plus!

Sarah responded to my inquiries promptly, and even addressed my skepticism of finding a therapist on Thumbtack. The process of finding someone to expose one's deepest vulnerabilities to is daunting. Sarah helped me feel safe before we met, answered my questions by email outside of usual business hours, and arranged to meet with me quickly.

Mary is a wonderful therapist to work with. She knows our child so well and is always looking for more information from us so she can understand our child even better. Mary was able to accommodate us many times when a school problem arose and is a great resource for school-related issues. She has recommended great strategies that we use everyday to help our ADHD child deal with frustrations. I would recommend Mary for the caring, thoughtful and empathetic way she interacts with my child and entire family.

The massage therapist was EXCELLENT. I didn't feel pain the next day. I looked up where she trained and was impressed with how mmuch the students are trained, and educated. I gave the facility a 4 because the massage room is off the main hallway and I could hear everything going on out in the offices. The distraction made it difficult to totally relax. I've been to oodles of massage sessions and usually I am drenched in quiet.

Hi Amy, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to you for choosing a perfect coach for my Life's situation. You were right on the money. I must honestly admit that Mr. Anil Sakhuja is absolutely a true professional, honest and caring man. After reading his profile, I knew right away that he was the perfect person I was looking for to share and address my confusion in my Life at the moment. He took a look at my entire Life background, how far I have come to this point in respect to my Life's experiences and educational level in this country, and gave me an honest opinion or coaching from a psychological point of view. I truly believe he has a joy in helping people that are confused or do not have a sense of direction in making vital decisions in their Life. From talking to Mr. Sakhuja, I truly believe he was honest with me in his opinion, about what direction I should take in my Life, and take away the stress I was putting on myself with the delima. I will forever recommend Mr. Anil Sakhuja to who ever wants to be coached by a true professional and honest man who is willing to engage int your Life's confusion or delima, and give you his honest opinion. He is a true therapist, Like Father, who is willing to help a child that is stressed with Life and confused. I will always keep in touch with Anil Sakhuja whenever I face a hurdle in Life.

Outstanding, Awesome, Entertaining, Hilarious, ONE HOUR Show NOT LONG ENOUGH THAT is how I would describe The Jerry Valley Hypnosis show at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, NY.  Let's put it this way, I really could care less about the Fair.  You see one, chicken, duck, cow, goat, horse, you have seen them all.  Amusement Park rides which I do not like anyway are over priced and way too short of a ride.  The food - okay at best - sitting there all day in grease and also over priced.  But the Jerry Valley Hypnosis Show - THAT IS THE MAIN AND REALLY ONLY REASON I will make four (4) or five (5) trips to the fair during their stint in the Buffalo, NY area.  The only reason I make that many trips to the fair is to MAKE SURE to catch BOTH of Jerry's shows.  I am in constant pain all day, every day and for that hour that I am watching Jerry's shows, I am not thinking about my pain.  Instead I am so focused on the entertainment that I do not realize I have pain.  Jerry does not take forever and a day to put the participants "under" hypnotism like many show hypnotists do.  Therefore, the audience does not have time to get bored.  I have only come to realize Jerry performs at the fair in probably the last seven (7) years.  I never went to the fair before that for any real  reason since before I was a small child.  But since I have discovered him  and his show I have been a regular observer ever since.  I actually look forward to August knowing that that actually means the end of summer.  I CAN'T WAIT to see the Jerry Valley shows and it's always nice to say "hello" and chat with Mrs. Jerry (Pat) Valley.  They feel like family now.

Leah was great! Gave 4 stars. She picked up on that I have a child with disabilities which no other psychic has ever said. She told me of some really great things coming to me in the near future with a new job. She also warned me of some real difficulties coming soon but gave me good advice to help me through them. I appreciated her honesty.

I am a medical intuitive, energy healer, holistic therapist, and shamanic teacher, located in MA, and available worldwide by Skype or phone. A medical intuitive can assist you in finding out what you need to heal by getting to the root of the problem and suggesting safe and natural solutions. I am grounded in Western medical knowledge and also many forms of alternative care. I work to heal the mind, body and spirit. Please check my website for articles, interviews, etc.

My practice includes work with individuals, couples, and families. In addition, I lead group sessions, and I provide supervision towards licensure in the field. I help people struggling with a variety of life's challenges ranging from the casual to the clinical. I successfully treat conditions, such as depression, Aspergers, and addiction. Rather than list more diagnoses, however, I think it makes the most sense for us to have a conversation about your challenges, so I can help you, regardless of what a possible diagnosis may be.

I am currently working as a PTA. However, I would perform massage as a second job! My specialty is myofascial release and injury massage versus relaxation!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

    • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
    • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
    • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
    • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
    • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
    • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
    • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
    • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
    • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
    • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
    • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
    • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
    • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
    • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
    • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
    • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
    • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
    • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
    • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

    What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

    • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
    • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
    • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
    • Overcoming addictions.
    • Managing chronic illness.
    • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.

    How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.
