Hi Mark, Ben and I would like to say thank you so much for being our wedding DJ! You were great and you have no idea how much we appreciate it. You knew exactly what to play to get people dancing and got the crowd's attention for us when we needed it. Thank you so much, you were outstanding and I will recommend you to anyone I know in the future who may be looking for a wedding DJ.

Adam did an outstanding job performing and providing us with a wonderful set list of music for our wedding. Not only is he a great musician but he is attentive on how to incorporate his music so as not to overpower his audience. Perfect compliment to our special day!

We feel so very lucky to have Kris's talents available to us. Where else could you find someone who has toured and played with well-known drummers and bands so close to home? Our son has taken his playing to the next level with Kris and learned new skills and gotten familiar with the different styles of drumming. Kris also passes along his extensive technical knowledge so that students learn to maintain their sets themselves. Besides being a true professional, Kris is a wonderful person whose teaching style and over-all personality makes learning from him both fun and enjoyable. He loves what he does and it shows!

We hired Music Matters DJ & Party services for our wedding in 2012. From the beginning Mike helped plan our special day with a great attitude and lots of fresh ideas that one would expect. From organizing all of the music, arranging for our violinist, performing during our cocktail hour, and as our DJ during our reception our day was filled with great entertainment. The service we received was impressive, he knew our venue, and was key in making our special day memorable and low stress.

I have been taking advance piano lessons from Christie for about five years. I had completed a music education program before meeting Christie and then had a long break from music. Christie took my piano playing from a hobby to a profession. She had challenged and inspired me in many ways - from believing I could learn and perform advanced classical pieces to letting me perform with a professional jazz band. Christie motivated me to learn musical theory on a deeper level, prepare for rigorous Royal Conservatory examinations, explore voice lessons, and most importantly inspired me to teach music as well. It was Christie's belief in my abilities that helped me become an educator myself. I am now teaching piano to almost 30 students, and find that I often think of "how Christie would do this" when I teach. She is an inspiration.

We hired Jon to perform classical guitar for our wedding ceremony. We were late in the planning stages, and hadn't spent enough time thinking through the ceremony music. Jon made a number of suggestions, and we found several selections we liked. Knowing he was experienced with previous weddings, and confident, was reassuring, especially since some of the details were still being worked out at the last minute. In the end, his playing was fantastic, and the music perfectly suited our procession, setting a beautiful tone for an unforgettable evening. Jon is an excellent musician and a true professional, and I can't recommend him highly enough.

Thanks Metro & Kat. You were both wonderful. Metro thank you for the beautiful music at our wedding ceremony, I'll never forget walking down to Ave Maria. Also, thanks for dancing with my grandmother at the reception, that was very sweet of you. She is still talking about it, lol! Hope to see you perform soon. BTW, I HIGHLY recommend the two of you.

I picked Steve to give lessons to my 14-year-old daughter after having a quick chat with him. He informed me that he instructs differently depending on what the student wants to achieve which I liked since it shows a student focus approach. Since my daughter has never played before, I was nervous about picking someone off of the internet but it has been a very good experience. I do not have any music ability so I can only review Steve as a parent of a student. Steve has a great demeanor which is perfect for working with kids. He is very encouraging and appears to very knowledgeable. He uses his experience and knowledge of bands and drummers as well as song bites as examples which easily keeps my daughter’s attention. I have learned a lot just by listening in. By the second class, he had my daughter playing along with a Beetles song while explaining how to keep tempo and to make the different drumming sounds which she really enjoyed. Steve is also very good at writing down homework assignments that she understands and can easily follow which I like. I have not yet invested in a drum set at home until my daughter shows a long-term commitment and this is not just another fad. Steve has her practicing nightly using the pillows which is working out so far. However, given how well this is going, I can see a drum set in the not too distant future. This is in no small part due to Steve and his efforts.

As an event professional planning and organizing weddings and events for clients its imperative that the vendors we recommend are not only professionals but amazing people passionate about their work. QNR Productions has provided my clients hours of entertainment at countless weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties and milestone events. Their knowledge of music and of people ensure that your guest be dancing all night long. Booking QNR Productions is a no brainer - they go above and beyond what you would expect from a mobile DJ service. In addition to music I have the ability to provide one-stop shopping for my clients by booking the lighting and other elements to really transform the events. In today's economy where everyone is looking for a "package" I caution them to really look for quality; the old adage rings true, "you get what you pay for" and QNR Productions is worth their weight in gold.

WOW!!! i could not have been more pleased with the DJ who played my wedding. Mike was so professional and met with us before the wedding and made up a playlist for us for all the important dance songs plus the regular dance songs. During the wedding he made all the announcements for us with enthusiasm and everything ran on time. The music was perfect the whole night and everything went so well we both gave him a big hug at the end of the night! We shopped around for a while and he was by far the most reasonable but we feel like the service was the best we could have gotten no matter how much we paid! I cannot recommend him strong enough....please give him a try and you will not be dissapointed and he will help make your wedding as perfect as he made ours! simply put...THE BEST!!!

          New To Thumbtack

            About

We’d love to provide fun music for your wedding celebration! We have been fortunate enough to play live, acoustic music (bluegrass, swing, roots music, old time) at numerous weddings throughout New England since 2006. In regards to music for the big day, we have found that the following formula works well for most folks: * Half an hour of mellow acoustic “seating” music prior to ceremony Processional and postlude (MP3 samples are here on our website) * 45 minutes of acoustic music amongst your guests during the cocktail reception * Fun dancing music after dinner for the reception You can use our PA for toasts and announcements. We also encourage folks to make an iPod mix of music to play during dinner, and fun dancing after we perform. (You and your friends might also love Prince of Hip Hop, or have some special songs you’d like to dance for another 30-45 minutes before the night ends!) We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have, and we provide a cost estimate. We typically book/quote events six to eight months in advance, so if you would like to secure your date, please get in touch! Also, please visit our web pages with wedding ideas specifically for Boston, on the Cape and the North Shore.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

            What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

            • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
            • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
            • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
