I hired Jane as a Life Coach because I am going through a life transition and seeking a new path that reflects the growth I have managed over the last several. I spent many years in an emotionally abusive marriage where my feelings were dismissed, my dreams squelched and my intellect ridiculed. As a single parent in the ten years between now and then, I had little time to pursue dreams or new careers, but I was away from the bullying and able to finally begin to blossom and to value myself. Now my children are grown and I'm ready to take the next step, but I realized that I could not do it alone. The conditioning was still too strong. I wanted someone to help, to bounce things off of, to give me perspective and to keep me from falling into ambivalence and indecision in the face of that inner critic. Jane has been that person. She has a wonderful combination of kindness and straightforwardness. She spent our first session just listening, giving her full attention to where I had been and where I was at. The validation of that alone, was worth gold to me. She has the ability to listen in a way that is deep and that helps you hear yourself, and trust yourself. We are still working towards my goals, which she is helping me identify and stay true to. The more I work with her the more solid and confident I become in my dreams and the quieter that echo of the bully becomes. I highly recommend Jane for anybody who is in a transition period of their life--especially if you have been the victim of abuse--and is looking for someone who can provide support, structure and firm but gentle guidance. She never, never tells you what to believe or who you are or what you want. She helps you find your own way there.

I want to give Jim McCoy TEN stars for the work we've done together -- and I do mean together. I have worked hard for what Jim calls "confidence through clarity." What does that mean? I asked Jim to work with me on weight issues. Over the course of several months, he helped me clarify my thinking about my weight and put it into the context of my life. I began to focus on what would make me happy in my life, and the weight became a secondary (yet still paramount) issue that began to come clear and take care of itself as I put together a game plan for my overall happiness, I didn't understand what a life coach DID until I began to work with Jim. Through our weekly telephone talks (we don't live in the same city), he helped me create a long-term, sustainable lifestyle plan that includes eating and moving -- and many other things necessary to my overall happiness. I am optimizing my strengths, tweaking my plan as I learn more about what I need and want, finding best strategies to support my lifestyle changes, and becoming more and more self-aware of how I sabotaged myself in the past, and how I can optimize my life today. I look better, I feel better, and I'm taking better care of myself. My clothes fit! Thank you, Jim. Thank you for believing in me and helping me learn to believe in myself.

I was initially nervous to meet with a life coach, however, after meeting with Jane I realized it was the best decision I have made for myself in a long time. She creates a plan to help address your personal and professional goals and genuinely cares about her clients. I would highly recomend booking an appointment with Jane for career goals, life coaching skills, or any additional professional aspirations.

I had interviewed two other fitness coaches before Gena and what I loved about Gena from the start was her willingness to listen and customize a plan based on my personal needs, circumstances and abilities. She coaches, encourages, checks in and keeps the experience positive providing the little extra push needed to stay focused on fitness goals that can easily be compromised with a busy to-do list.

I love Monica Dubay and her complete dedication to being on purpose as only each individual can express uniquely. She guided me to claim more of my true Self and freedom so my light beams brighter for others to come along. I worked weekly with Monica as my spiritual life coach at Heal Your Mind Heal Your Life for 6 months. She guided gently with full integrity so I experienced complete trust in being open and vulnerable with potentially “embarrassing secrets”. Monica combines deep spiritual preparation and personal clearing work with effective methodology. She is assisted by highly developed intuitive guidance. She sensed which of my mis-beliefs would yield the most foundational awakening when I brought them to light and cleared them. It usually started with me fussing in fits and starts about some situation or personal reaction—without much focus—and she would hone in on a statement I held with strong attachment, like “I have to do things forever.” “I am not free to stop what I have started.” She would take me through questioning my thoughts, yet always left choices that are mine in free will with me. I laugh now to think that I could have run out of gold mine topics for healing. I often left a session disoriented and needed a day or to allow changes in my thoughts to integrate with my truth. I gained a comfort with the process and can use it now with myself and others. I was under construction and experienced steady, continual opening every week. I know I am up-leveling and expanding continuously. Go for it! Your happiness is waiting for you. Nancy Fitzgerald, June 2017, Amesbury, MA

Crystal is my friend. We have been friends for about 5 years. In that five years, she has drastically changed the quality of my life. Neither of us realized it, it just happened. When we met, I worked part time at a retail job that I didn't want to go to anymore. I lived with my grandmother at 28 years old and I drove a 1998 Buick that was in pretty rough shape. Today, I have a successful career doing something that I love to do. I drive a new Jeep which is what I have always wanted and I live with my girlfriend. I am very happy with my life and I know that if I had never met Crystal, it's not very likely that I would be where I am today.

During my first year at the Harvard Kennedy School, Mala Paliwal coached me through the myriad personal and professional challenges I was facing. I was grappling with long-distant relationships with family members, as well as a few fraught relationships on campus. I was also trying to redefine myself in a highly competitive professional environment. Mala worked with me both in person and over the phone. She listened compassionately and without judgement. When you are with her, you are made to feel that you are all that matters. She has an incredible knack for asking questions to help me unravel my own assumptions. I realized many things about the mental habits which were sabotaging my ability to reach my goals and to be happy. Above all, Mala reminded me that I am a unique individual that cannot and should not be compared to anyone else. She encouraged me to celebrate my uniqueness, each and every single day. She emphasized the importance of such positive thinking. Mala's coaching left an indelible mark on me. This summer I am pursuing personal and professionally meaningful opportunities that I would never have taken on before I met her. I am willing to challenge myself whilst being accepting of who I am and of my own limits. I embrace the totality of myself and propel myself into everything I do. It's truly joyful time and I am deeply grateful for Mala's belief and investment in me.

I have been an acupuncture patient of Marisa's for many years, so I knew she was studying to become a Life Coach. I had been to a Life Coach years before and didn't really get anything out of it, just lots of money wasted. Marisa gave me a free "practice" session (as she put it) and - wow! It was only about 10 minutes into the session when she pinpointed the areas I needed to focus on and then came up with ideas on how to handle them - all in a half hour! She knows her stuff and can accomplish in a short time what it would take others weeks to do! Give her a try, its worth it!

I first met with Sharon a few months ago to find a job closer to home. At that time, I was unclear about my core strengths and assets. Over the spring and summer, Sharon Harris has provided concrete tools and exercises that have pinpointed my strengths and talents and has opened up a whole new world to me. She continues to be on the look-out on my behalf for employment closer to home. Sharon is professional, her enthusiasm is contagious and she is an absolute joy to work with.

Our purpose at 21 Switchbacks is to create remarkable lives. My writing asks and seeks to answer questions dealing with the following topics: Work and purpose. What does "success" really mean? How can we be more productive and fulfilled in our current work? Courage. Which risks are worth taking? How can we balance our desire to make the most of our youth with pragmatic and long-term concerns? What are we actually afraid of, anyway? Mindfulness. How can we train our minds to work for us, instead of the other way around? How can we cultivate more compassion and kindness? How can we be happier, without so many ups and downs? Life and habits. How can we get clarity about what really matters, and build each day around those priorities? How can we achieve the results we want for our relationships and health? What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

          • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
          • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
          • Defining your career goals
          • Creating a plan for job searching
          • Improving networking strategies and skills
          • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
          • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
          • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

          Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

          • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
          • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
          • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
          • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
          • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
          • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
          • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

          What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
