Lisa R. says, "It was an absolute pleasure meeting and having Casa Craftsmam work on replacement of my electrical outlets. This work was done on my camper. John's work included switching out RV outlets to residential outlets with new wallplates. Once John reached out to me, communication with him was constant and always professional. I asked a number of questions and John replied quickly and respectfully to each one. Once I was satisfied, John sent me a quote. I approved it. He came the next day to complete the project. He picked up all materials needed and kept me aware of his time of arrival. Once he arrived, he wasted no time getting started. He clearly has experience. I was confident I didn't need to keep a watchful eye on him so I went about my business. This was a time consuming project with periods of no power in the camper so I went to tend to things outside of the camper. I offered John beverages and food several times, but he politely declined. He just focused on the task at hand. It took several hours to switch out all outlets. When John was done, he had all furniture and fixtures back to their appropriate spots. He cleaned up after himself and even took his garbage with him. I was most impressed with this young man and totally recommend him. I would definitely hire him again in a heartbeat. He has a wonderful career ahead of him with a strong work ethic, excellent customer service etiquette and very personable. It was an absolute pleasure. Thank you Thumbtack and John for a great experience!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have someone hang your Christmas lights?

It will likely cost between $200 and $400 to hire someone to hang your Christmas lights and holiday decorations. For an accurate cost estimate, ask installers near you to give you a price quote. Let them know if you need them to supply the lights, how many you want to hang and other details about this project.

When should you hang Christmas lights?

There’s no set rule of when you should or shouldn’t hang your Christmas lights. Some homeowners wait until after Halloween or Thanksgiving. Others may choose to hang them a few weeks before Christmas or at the beginning of December.

What do you use to hang Christmas lights outside?

If you want to hang up Christmas lights (or other holiday light fixtures) outdoors, you’ll need the following:

  • Christmas and holiday lights
  • Extension cords
  • Gloves
  • Gutter clips
  • Ladder
  • Power stakes
  • Tape measure

Instead of hanging the Christmas lights yourself, you can hire a professional installer to take care of this project for you.

What is the best way to hang Christmas lights on your house?

The best way to hang Christmas lights on your house is to use some type of light clip (sometimes called gutter clips). To help ensure your safety, however, consider hiring a professional installer who has experience with hanging Christmas lights, handling electrical cords and using ladders.

How many feet of Christmas lights do you need for a house?

You’ll need to measure your house to figure out how many Christmas lights you need. Some homeowners may want to start with 60 feet of lights — or 200 feet. You can take the guesswork out of it by hiring a professional installer or handy person to help you measure and install your lights.

How much do I tip Christmas light installers?

How much you tip an installer who hangs your Christmas and holiday lighting is up to your discretion. Some people prefer to tip about 20% for services, while others may choose to tip anywhere from $20-$50. It’s up to you how much you choose to tip.
