Fantastic Piano Teacher As adults, how many times have we said "I used to play the piano"? I wanted to play the piano again, but was unable to find a teacher who met my needs as an adult learner. Then I found Bulent Guneralp. He answered my inquiry in a timely manner. We set up the first lesson and then I looked forward to the second lesson. I am now taking piano lessons almost weekly. Aside from his technical expertise, I think that one of the greatest things he gives his students is hope. I'm playing again, I'm practicing again. Sitting at the piano has become both challenging and fun, not a chore. Maybe because I am a teacher (of a different subject), I can recognize good teaching. Bulent is a fantastic music educator because he is neither too easy, nor too critical. He is pleasant, inspiring and meticulous. Most of all, I am hopeful about taking piano lessons again.

"For the past three years my high school aged son has taken piano lessons from Bulent. In all that time he has been consistently patient, kind, enthusiastic and inspiring. Bulent used every minute to provide the best instruction, correction and encouragement. His love of music is evident as he often shared suggestions and links for video and live performances. His rates are quite reasonable for individual instruction and he is accommodating to scheduling conflicts. I recommend him unreservedly! I have read some of the other positive reviews of Bulent and I can attest to the truthfulness of all of them - there is no exaggeration. Bulent is a remarkable human being and a wonderful teacher." Excellent teacher! "I've been taking piano lessons with Bulent for over 2 months now and he's been fantastic! He really teaches how to play with a lot of feel for the music and helps hone your intuition for how a piece should sound. He's very precise and is great at identifying areas for you to develop skills on, or what things to practice etc."

Jessica has been amazing for me. First off, she has a very pleasant personality---which is always helpful. I contacted Jessica because I have sleep apnea and read that singing lessons could be helpful in building up the throat muscles and developing better breathing. I have also wanted to take voice lessons so it was two birds with one stone for me. I have been taking weekly lessons for about a month now and am already seeing improvement in both my voice and, more importantly, in my sleep quality. Jessica has gone the extra mile for me in finding voice exercises which will assist in my apnea. She has been doing some online researches and has even ordered a book on the subject. She is fun to work with and it is obvious that this is less about money than it is about her passion for music. Her rates are extremely reasonable and she is generous with her time. I look forward to many more lessons with her and cannot recommend her highly enough. Jessica is a true professional. If you have ever thought about voice lessons you cannot go wrong giving her a call.

Jessica is wonderful. I have only had two lessons, but she has made it a point to get to know my strengths and weaknesses and we are working together on piano and vocal training. She has great energy and is extremely knowledgeable. I feel comfortable and confident with her guidance.

Jeanne is simply the best! Helped me and my 6 year old son learn the piano. He was only 6 and I'm not super musical, but she made it fun and got us both playing some songs. Also gave me some good context behind basic theory and how to try and figure songs out on my own. My son can't get enough of her. Also just a wonderful person. I highly recommend!

Jeanne responded quickly to the request, was a very good communicator, and through the first two guitar lessons with my daughter, things seem to be going very well! I greatly appreciate her willingness to travel a fair distance to come to our home and conduct the guitar lessons. Highly recommended!

I originally contacted Donny for my 12 yo daughter, who stopped taking lessons two years ago. But, she was so resistant to the idea of trying again and I ended up taking lessons from him. I played classical music all my life and took lessons on and off. This time I decided to learn jazz music, and so far, I love it. Donny can explain new concepts so clearly, and every minute of the lesson is utilized so efficiently. He is also very encouraging and even when I make mistakes he would find something to praise first before gently guiding me to realize what my mistake was. I wish my daughter had given a try (because I think she would have really enjoyed it too), but I am very happy with this incidental opportunity.

Donny has been teaching piano to my preschool and elementary school boys for over a year now and he has been great. The boys are enjoying themselves and really making progress. Donny is patient and flexible with them, always willing to tailor lessons to their abilities and interests. I look forward to continuing my children's lessons with him.

Ms. Testa is a great piano instructor. My son, Andrew, has been taking lessons for almost a full year now and he loves it. When he comes home from camp he rushes right to the piano to practice. Andrew loves showing off what he has learned and even puts on a little show when his grandparents come to visit, its so cute! I can definitely say that Ms. Testa is a great instructor who puts in the time and cares for my little Andrew and it is definitely showing. I would recommend Ms.Testa to anyone who is just starting out or to anyone wishing to get back into piano.

Amanda patiently guided me through the basics of piano for 2 years. She answered every question calmly and thoughtfully, from the basic "where does my hand go again?" to "who invented the piano?" Every lesson was tailored to my needs and ability. I never felt intimidated by her, and she was always a pleasure to work with. It's cathartic playing piano, since it's another way to connect your mind and body. I highly recommend taking lessons with her! I bet she'd work well with children, too.

A perfect match for my 15 year old daughter taking singing lessons. Amanda's knowledge, talent, and enthusiasm are contagious. She has fostered my daughter's confidence and developed her singing skills. I highly recommend Amanda. You become part of her singing family and she gives more than 100% of herself each lesson. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

I have been taking piano lessons from Marietta since October 2014 at her studio in Watertown, MA. I am a thirty something year professional who decided to learn piano and have been looking for a piano teacher for a while until finally found Marietta on Thumbtack. Upon meeting her I realized that she is the one and my search is over. Marietta is a highly professional piano teacher, she is patient with beginner students like me and very passionate about teaching. She has students at all ages and levels. She highly emphasizes on correct coordination and technique and make sure you have adopted the right hand skills before she moves on to the next lesson. She is very nice, supportive and approachable and you can always ask any questions you might have. I live and work far from Watertown, but I think piano lessons with Marietta is totally worth the 15 mile commute.

Each lesson with Marietta ends with my having learned something new. With her unwavering sense of humor and her uncompromised high standards of performance, I can attest to her total devotion to her students’ progress and continued love of piano music. I can’t imagine a piano instructor more committed to her students.

Marietta is terrific! I am an older student who has not played the piano for many years, and Marietta is very patient and encouraging. She is able to focus right in on the problem areas and in a very kind manner help you improve. Most important, her love of music and the piano is infectious. She is a rare jewel.

Okay, so I am a nontraditional student of the Arts (58 years old), but I still have lots of desire to learn new things. Learning to play the piano has always been on my bucket list and when the opportunity to own a piano at no cost arose, well I just had to jump on it. And, when the time came to search for a piano instructor, I asked my FB friends to recommend someone. The name Mark Connors popped up every time. I knew I would need someone with a LOT of patience and understanding because I basically would be beginning at ground zero with absolutely no experience or knowledge of music. After only 5 months, I am pleased to report that I can read music and am thrilled with my personal progress of playing the piano, from single notes to chords, and sweet melodies. Mark has an engaging, friendly, non-intimidating approach. He is professional and encouraging. He makes lesson time fun and enjoyable. He even laughs with me when I give him excuse #105 for not practicing that week. I have been a middle school teacher for almost 15 years and know the challenges that teaching poses at times. Mark possesses the qualities of an amazing teacher. He is extremely knowledgeable in all realms of music, keeps up to date, has a deep-rooted passion for music, a natural talent for playing the guitar and piano and knows just how to personalize lessons to your specific needs. I have discovered a new escape from my daily stress in my latest passion of playing the piano. I owe my success to Mark.

Lynda G.

I have been taken guitar lessons from Mark for 5 months and the level of skill and knowledge I have gained in this short time has been amazing. Mark's approach to lessons each week is structured, motivating and fun. I have accomplished being able to read music and play various Christmas songs during the holiday season which my family enjoyed as well. On a healthier note, after a stressful shift as an RN, I find playing my guitar dissolves all my stress away. Learning to play the acoustic guitar has always been on my bucket list and I look forward each week to my lesson in order to further develop my skills.

My fiancé and I signed up his 10 year old son for guitar lessons. He had never picked up a guitar in his life but he knew how to read music from playing crumbs in the middle school band. Mark was patient and understanding as he taught him how to place his first note. Mark was an excellent teacher and went at the perfect pace. We stopped lessons for a couple months to allow him to get better on what he's already learned. I look forward to starting again in the fall with Mark.

We hired Greg to come into our home to teach our 12 year old son piano and guitar lessons. His knowledge of music is astounding! He has brought interesting and challenging pieces of music to learn from rather than going through the traditional simple piano books which my son has found rewarding. Greg has a fun personality to match his love of all things music.

Peter is a very knowledgeable and humble individual. This comes as no surprise because he is a multi-talented genius, especially within the realms of piano and composition. To top it off, his rate is very affordable, as well! I would highly recommend him to someone who is just starting out or to more experienced players who want to take their musical chops even further.

Peter is amazing! I am adult student returning to try and re-learn some of the basics on acoustic piano. Peter is very patient with me and makes learning scales & technique fun. He has also shown me a lot about keyboards/synthesizers, etc, which is another part of my focus. I really look forward to my lessons with him! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I took several piano lessons and lessons on composition with Peter. Peter is very experienced with piano teaching and also very knowledgeable with various genres that I was interested in. He introduced me to the basic theories (chord progressions, rhythms, and etc) of jazz and samba and also helped with a composition that I was working on.

My son has been taking piano lessons with Lenae for the past 5 years and we have been very happy with her. As he is approaching his teenage years, it's been a bit of a struggle to keep him interested but Lenae works hard to keep him engaged. She tries to find music he prefers while keeping him progressing musically. She is very patient and has a gentle manner with my son. Lenae also provides thorough and useful feedback on a regular basis. I would highly recommend Lenae if you are seeking piano lessons for your child or yourself (she has adult students too).

What an excellent teacher--I am an adult voice student and I have learned a lot. Her comments are very helpful and respectfully given. Plus I have learned wonderful music and have enjoyed the lessons immensely. Lenae is the accompanist for two groups I sing with: the Broad Cove Chorale and the Unicorn Singers in Hingham MA What a demon pianist and organist--and singer who can fill in whenever and wherever she's needed Nothing she can't do! Took lessons with Don when I was in my sixties. Loved his method of teaching and at the very least can sit down at the piano and play to my satisfaction. After much searching my daughter in law found a piano teacher in N.J. with a similar philosophy of teaching for her daughter with amazing results. She is now creating her own songs and loving it. I strongly recommend Don. He is the best.

It was a pleasure to take piano lessons with Don in his studio. He is professional, organized and kind! I was given a binder to help organize homework, repertoire. But I had to take a break from lessons for personal reasons. I think I will return to them soon next year! And Don will definitely be one of my top choices.

I'm a very busy technology professional. After many years of playing and studying on my own since college, I decided to look for teacher again. I met Ben through Thumbtack and started studying with him about a year ago. I can easily say that Ben is by far the best music teacher that I've ever had. With Ben, I study classical, jazz, composition, theory, technique and performance - all integrated into a single holistic, experience-based learning approach. Besides being a master, Ben is amazingly motivating and supportive - he puts my creative experience at the center of all we do. I've progressed in so many ways, none of which I would have expected a year ago. I've met several other of Ben's students - from children and adult beginners to highly trained professional musicians. They all say very similar things. I highly recommend studying with Ben.

I came to Ben looking for lessons on piano improvisation. Coming from nothing, Ben did an extraordinary job immediately helping me become familiar with the concept of improvising while pushing me to not only challenge myself, but to understand what I was doing and why it made sense. Ben's background and talent really show in his teaching style and I left every lesson anxious to get home and practice what we had just gone over. I'd recommend Ben to anyone who wants to get top level education in anything piano.

Rachel A.

Verified review

Ben is a wonderful teacher and already after two lessons I feel more connected to the instrument. Also, the lessons have inspired me to play more frequently at home and just enjoy my time making music. He might be more pricey than other teachers but I feel the price is fair for the quality of teaching.

Josh is an excellent, engaging piano teacher. My 6 year old really enjoyed her lessons and was able to grasp the lessons quickly. Other staff we delt with have also been nice to work with. My only issue with DeAngelis Studio of Music is that the building is not handicapped accessible, piano lessons are on the third floor,, which made it difficult for me. Josh even offered to come down the stairs to get my daughter and bring her back down, which was very nice, but at her age, she wanted me present, and the stairs were a challenge.

Extremely pleased with instruction from IAN - I am rapidly learning new piano skills and theory from an enjoyable musical perspective, rather than just mechanics. Love that. Now I truly wanted to the whole experience five stars (and IAN is definitely five stars by himself) but had to notch it down because the piano in the studio is in dire need of tuning so I couldn't honestly say 5 stars across the board.

He's not an easy kid to keep interested in anything and Mike and his teachers have the patience to keep him focused and engaged. My son and I could not be happier. His playing is coming along nicely and his band flat out rocks! Thanks DeAngelis school.

Both my two daughters have been taking piano lessons with Ms. Tamara Medoyeva since age of 7 and 5 respectively since 2006. She is a very devoted teacher. She teaches the real music with her decades of experience. What I love her the most is that she develops different curriculum for them based on their different personality and skills. She combines big pieces with side readings very well so that when keep the students challenged she also let them try easier but fun pieces. Ms. Tamara Medoyeva also has a very open mind. She collects feedback from me all the time. When my daughters are frustrated sometimes when they hit their plateau period, she never pushes them too hard. We never had any communication problems. We are very lucky to have a such a caring and capable piano teacher.

I started taking piano lessons with Tamara when I was eleven, and four years later have only good things to say. Lessons are always in a relaxed setting, but the music is serious. She never neglects details and technique, but what stands out to me is the emotion of my playing that has developed over the past four years. I am so grateful for all of the musical knowledge I have gained with Tamara, and look forward to everything I will learn in future lessons!

I offer weekly individual piano lessons in 30-, 45-, 60- or 90-minute lengths, ages 5 to 18. Beginners through advanced levels are welcome! Students at any level can pursue serious study with my personalized, structured approach. I help students develop beautiful technique, self-awareness, powerful practice skills, and creative expression. In lessons, students are assigned scales, technique, etudes, theory, ear training, and repertoire selected from all eras of classical music. Music assignments are carefully chosen to fit the strengths, weaknesses, and personality of each student. After I've met with you, I'll create a plan for piano study specially designed for you!
