Theresa was fantastic with our dog Olive. she has an extensive amount of knowlege when it comes to dog training it was very impressive. She came prepared with treats and clickers and an excitement to train. Can't wait for our next session!
I was a little hesitant to send my dog off to Isys because when I looked over her Facebook page it didn't seem as though she had as much experience as some of the other trainers who I spoke with. I talked with her by phone and explained what we were struggling wiht with our 10 month old Goldendoodle. Following our conversation, I felt comfortable with her training methods and decided what the heck - everyone starts out with fewer clients. I am SO glad I made the decision to go with her. I asked her about her background and experience and she has been training dogs since she was a teenager, having trained the family to participate in agility competitions. Our dog did not have a major behavior problem. He is and was a very sweet dog who listened inconsistently, stole food from the counters, and hated going in to his cage - he either refused or barked and whined the whole time he was in there. He did not need major behavior modification but needed to listen consistently, come when called, and be trusted not to steal food. Isys is one of the few trainers who will do a "boot-camp" style training who does not use shock collars. For me this was important because I need to be able to control my dog and can't hold a remote in my hand 24/7. In addition we have an electric dog fence and two collars are just too much for him to wear. Isys uses repetition and positive reinforcement and by being consistent our dog came back a better listener. As I type this he has been waiting patiently in his crate for ten minutes, with the door open, to be allowed to leave. I wish I could post a picture to prove it! Over the ten day period when Isys had my dog she updated me with pictures and videos on his progress. It was clear from her pictures and updates that our dog was happy and having fun while training. He was with other dogs at times which helped him obey even when distracted. We had coordinated the training to align with a vacation so it was nice to know that our dog was having a great holiday as well. Isys also has incredible follow through. After dropping my dog back off at home, she spent about an hour going over what he had learned with us. A few weeks later when I was not having as much success as Isys had had, she came back and trained him again at my house. She also offered and will be coming back again to train my three young children on how to maintain the obedience training. Isys is calm, upbeat, and very accommodating. I would highly recommend Isys for dog training.
Our dog Baylor just returned from 5 days with Evan. Baylor responded so well to him and it was encouraging to see how trainable Baylor can be. Now we just need to use the training tools at home so Baylor responds to our commands as well as he did to Evan. I would highly recommend Evan for any dog training.
Shannon's classes were fun and informative. She had a lot of great tips and tricks to help up survive "puppy hood". We would hightly recommend her to anyone looking for dog training.
We cannot say enough about Terry's services and the experience in working with him. He worked to train our puppy in 4 simple sessions, and as we continued practice with what we learned, couldn't believe how much our day to day lives changed! We ended up with a loving and respectful pup who is now 1. And Terry has always been readily accessible and helpful even after the sessions had ended. I would recommend him bar none to anyone that this thinking about dog training services.
Where to begin! We have used Lori for the whole range of services, including walks, dog park playtime, training, and boarding, for the past 2.5 years. When we got our extremely fearful dog Piper about 3 years ago, we knew we needed someone special to help us out. When we saw Lori at the dog park, we were drawn to and impressed by her demeanor, skill, and manner of interaction with dogs and their people. She was loving and caring with the dogs, but swift with corrections when necessary. Since then, she has been an absolutely essential resource for us with our now two dogs. After our first dog Piper was hit by a car in the care of another dog walking service, Lori assisted us every day by giving Piper pain medicine, hand feeding her when she was refusing to eat, helping her out on walks when she was limping, and generally being an incredible help. A few years later, when we brought two surprise puppies home from vacation in the Virgin Islands, Lori was incredibly supportive and provided low-cost walks and play time for the puppies while we got one of them adopted out. She also helped search for adopting families. We ended up keeping one of the puppies, Cinnamon, and Lori was again essential in crate training her after an unfortunate incident with a leather chair. She brought over crates and crate training tools, suggested crate training methods, and even made a recording of herself to play while we were gone to comfort the dog. As a testament to her awesomeness, when we were moving from Somerville, we narrowed down our home search to homes only in Lori's area of service, since we didn't want to lose her! Overall, Lori truly cares about her pack, is extremely responsive and helpful, and goes far above and beyond to help in any way she can. Most importantly, our dogs love her so much and come home tired every day after play time. We can't recommend Lori enough!

We adopted our puppy, Bailey, in May 2011 at 3 months old and immediately started looking for a trainer. What I loved most about Zen Dog training is that they offer in home one-on-one training unlike some other places I had looked into. They also offered night/weekend training which was exactly what we needed. Also, the initial phone consultation was a great preview of what to expect. We signed up for the Perfect Pup package that gave us two visits lasting 2 hours each. Definitely worth it! We had Nayiri who was an absolute joy to work with. You could tell she had a great love for dogs! As soon as she entered our home and Bailey raced to 'greet' (i.e. jump on) her she was in training mode yet was still able to do the initial meet/greet with us. Nayiri took the time to listen to our specific concerns as well as tell us about common puppy issues and what to expect since this was the first time either of us had a dog under the age of 1. Nayiri showed us fun ways to teach Bailey common commands and how to advance once he got the hang of it. It was great that there wasn't a cookie cutter program; everything was tailored to what we wanted to achieve. We received great training material as a reminder once she left as well as access to their online site with an abundance of training videos and info for all stages of a dogs life. Nayiri was extremely flexible in terms of setting up the follow up appointment which we had to reschedule on our end a couple of times due to work conflicts. Naryiri was available through email for any follow up questions/concerns we had and responded quickly with advice which was helpful as we continued our training. The follow up meeting was great. We were able to discuss all the things that had happened with training and what we still needed to work on. Nayiri also gave suggestions on some next steps she thought Bailey was ready for. We recommend her to anyone who would like to train their dog and will definitely keep her info handy just in case we feel the need for additional training in the future. We definitely lucked out finding this service!

After 25 years of training Doberman and other breeds, several people had noticed how obedient these dogs were and had asked for my help with training their dogs. All these years, I was just training my own dogs and helping others. I had thought about becoming a professional dog trainer but just continued to help others; then years later, two different situations, both having rescue dogs came up and, in one case, I heard that they were going to put their dog down. I had, reading this, understood that this was an aggressive dog that was biting family members as well as their other dog among several other complications. The next day, I came to help in this emergency situation and had then come to realize that there is a need for my dog training services. Now, I'm charging for my dog training and counseling services, as I come with several years of vast experience in training dogs and helping individuals and families with their dogs of all ages. I do have experience, from puppies to adult dogs, in several breeds. I have worked with basic training/obedience training and from simple to advanced tracking, working dogs as well as guard dogs. I have coached on several simple tricks that many wanted their dogs to learn. There are many basic training methods as well as training tools, and each breed is different, so they learn and understand differently. Some are slow learners; some are fast, and some are easily distracted. Others are more eager to learn. Every dog is special and unique with different abilities, and it is up to you to bring this out and challenge him, but first you must understand your dog at hand. I am training dogs in and outside of the family home and business. You will learn how to understand your dog as your dog will learn to understand you. This will give a happier, comfortable relationship, and the earlier you get your dog into training, the better. Look at it as habits; there are good habits, and there are bad habits, and you know the saying, "Habits are hard to break." Well, with a good dog trainer, these bad habits can be changed to different positives, and a good trainer will explain in detail or give you some different options. I offer the following: * Tools You will learn the difference between the tools and what will best suit your dog for the situation at hand. I use the basic to advance training tools. Remember, every breed is different as are all the situations, so the right tools for your dog will make the difference. * Tips and tricks Every trainer has his/her methods in training and his/her reasons. I look at several details beyond the dogs, and along the way, there are tips and tricks that you will learn to speed up the training; in most cases, it takes a bit of understanding of your dog. Most of these tips and tricks are very simple; however, some are advanced. Some might depend on how far you want to go with your dog training. I use the three-stage training. * Puppy, basic and advanced, includes the following: - Puppy - Barking - Biting - Jumping - Temperament - Crate training - Come, sit, stay, and heal Basic training completes the first stage of all the above training and a preparation for advance training. Advanced training includes the following: - Service Dog - Seeing Eye Dog - Danger Alarm - Rescue Dog - Warning Dog - Working Dog - Guard Security - Tracking Dog - Sports and Agility - Hunting Dog - Obedience - Pack Training For three-language training, all training is explained and shown in three different languages for your dog to understand and you to communicate. I teach many different tricks. Many simple tricks can lead to an advanced training. There are so many tricks out there; some will amaze your friends, you and your family. The following are a few tricks: - Tracking Tricks - Silly Tricks - Parlor Tricks - Useful Tricks - Jumping Tricks - Agility Tricks - Circus Tricks - Magic Tricks - Kids Tricks - Emergency Tricks - Tricks for Kids and many more For tools, I teach what to use and what not to use. Situations are all different. I use adjustable whistles. There is a free downloadable. I recommend remotes. Remember, do not take advice from just anyone. You can look at training like a chess game; there are strong moves and weak moves, which lead to good and bad habits. Being consistent with your commands and following the same patterns, such are when to eat and when to go out, your dog will know. Keep it simple as it is best for your dog to understand. I like to keep commands short and direct to the point, and you must be consistent. Patience and understanding every breed is different in situations and environments. Hopefully, some of these tips help you, and I wish you the best in relation with your best friend.
