Drum Lessons (for adults)
Josh is an excellent teacher whose drum playing skills and general musical knowledge are impeccable. I started lessons with Josh this past summer to try and pick up a different instrument from guitar and improve my rhythmic abilities and he helped me progress a great deal on the drums. He has a great ear which he has developed from years of playing and which he keeps sharp by playing on a regular basis. He uses his very keen ears to pick up on the most minute details of your playing which will help you develop as a detail oriented player. I like Josh's teaching style, he's a very encouraging person and will celebrate your progress every step of the way, but he isn't afraid to tell you what you need to hear in order to improve as a player. All in all my experience with Josh has been great and I would 100% recommend him to a player of any skill level.Sep 11, 2016Verified
Josh is a fantastic drum instructor. He's got talent galore, enthusiasm to burn, and the ability to teach at whatever level the student is at. He combines a passion for music with a natural ability to communicate clearly, which translates into lessons that are super fun and productive. He trained at Berkley won awards for teaching, and is highly sought after as a performer He's truly a gem, as a person and as a drum instructor. Could not be happier!Sep 20, 2016
Haven’t actually started yet . He had to go out of the country but will be back next month and I will start some lessons.Mar 5, 2019Verified
I had a pretty great first lesson in music production with Josh. I learned a lot in a short period of time and his approach was hands-on, which I appreciated. He also brought an interface for us to use, and offered to use his copy of Ableton Live, gestures that were unnecessary for a musician like me, but would doubtless be appreciated by anyone just venturing into the world of production.Mar 26, 2019Verified
What an awesome find! Josh is full of enthusiasm and has really inspired my daughter with his method of teaching. My daughter can't wait for her lessons each week and improves so much during the course of the lesson. And by the way, Josh is an absolutely amazing drummer - so much fun to listen to him!Oct 9, 2018Verified

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? In terms of teaching, I like to first get a sense of the student’s and parent’s (where applicable) goals for the lessons. In addition, I like to know what type of music the student likes and what previous musical background he/she has. I then work on building/refining the foundation of technique as well as playing musical examples to keep things fun and moving in a positive direction. In regards to performances, I like to ask the client what type of music they enjoy, what type of music they are looking to have at the event (any specific bands or artists to cover), and what the overall atmosphere of the event is - formal, semi-formal, or casual. From there, we work together every step along the way to ensure the live entertainment is exactly what the client is looking for and that everyone is happy!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I took 5 years of piano lessons from age 7-12 at Indian Hill Music School, have taken 11 years of drum lessons (pretty much consistently on a weekly basis), and then went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music with cum laude honors and with two (2) degrees - one in Drum Performance the other in Electronic Production & Design. I also was trained in music education/as a music teacher at Indian Hill Music School (in Littleton, MA), The West End House Boys & Girls Club (in Allston, MA), & the Boston Public Schools' Counseling & Intervention Center in Roslindale, MA.
