Everyone at our wedding RAVED about how amazing the food was. The presentation was perfect. Chris was incredible to work with. He was responsive and worked so hard to meet our every need (gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options). We couldn't of asked for a better price for what we got either! Everything was amazing.

I truly enjoyed taking cooking lessons from Sarah. She quickly assessed my skill level and taught me many tips and techniques I will use from now on. I had fun cooking side by side with Sarah and my family was always very happy to taste the delicious food I had made during the classes. I now have lots of new recipes and more confidence in the kitchen. - Julie A.

From the beginning Stephen accommodated everyone in my group. I had vegans, gluten free, and some other picky eaters. I have hired them twice because they have done such an impeccable job. We did a Halloween party with 60 people and they were able to create Delish food that was also adorable and went with the theme. My friends and family took their card and have already hired them for some of their events. They create from scratch , warm delish food. They help with anything you needed ! I just used them for a summer BBQ and their pulled pork is to die for ! They make amazing salads that have such a unique flavor. The fact that they were able to accomadate my vegan and gluten free family members was even more exciting ! Everyone was able to enjoy the food! My vegan friends were so happy to know that the chefs cooked vegan privately for several months so they know exactly how to create amazing food that my non vegan friends didn't even know some of the items were vegan ( spinach artichoke dip, taquitos, and grape leaves ! I would recommend safe haven over and over again. They are more flexible with price and needs then the 4 other quotes I received. Thank you Stephen again !

I can't say enough good things about Marty Malone. My husband and I had our wedding at the Historic Village Hall in Framingham, MA. The hall was beautiful, but did not include any 'frills' other than the tables. We needed to find a caterer that could not only feed our 150 guests, but also bring in alcohol, provide bartenders and insurance, and help to show the guests where and when to eat. We also had to do it on a very tight budget. Marty got back to me right away on Thumbtack, and answered what seemed like hundreds of questions from me in a timely and patient manner. He was so helpful with all of our needs, and met every single one of them with no stress or hassle. We were able to customize our meal choices, and make changes when needed. He provided an incredible ice cream sundae bar as well as gluten free options when asked about it at the last minute. On the day of the wedding, I saw that Marty had brought lots of friendly staff with him, and all were dressed nicely and smiling. They catered to our guests and made sure everyone was fed and happy. The cleanup was quick and easy. I would highly recommend Marty for any of your catering needs!

I hired Karen to host a pasta making cooking class with dessert at my home for a total of 8 couples. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Karen came early to tour my kitchen and setup. From there she handled everything! It was so nice to relax, drink, and enjoy the class along with my guests. One guest had a gluten allergy and Karen came completely prepared. Not only did he get to make all the same types of pasta with his gluten free dough, Karen also found gluten free ingredients so he too could make a Tiramisu. Karen kept everyone actively engaged with plenty of hands on instruction, and then plated and served all the food we had cooked together. The food was amazing! We all joked that we couldn't believe we had any part in preparing something so delicious! While I continued to mingle with my guests after we had finished eating, Karen cleared the table and cleaned the kitchen. I don't think hosting friends could have been any more fun or easy! I look forward to having Karen come back to teach many more delicious recipes! Thank you Karen!

First, Chef Jeannine came to our home and spent time with us, explaining her business, asking for our likes and dislikes, assured me that cooking gluten free meals (I'm a celiac) was not a problem for her, gave us a paper with alternative meals, if we didn't care for the current week's selections. She was very professional and friendly. Best of all, she brought a sample meal for us to enjoy as our dinner that evening! That meal and the subsequent ones were delicious - very flavorful, with lots of fresh vegetables, and good meat, poultry, and sea food choices.

Ellen has cooked many meals for me. They are all incredibly delicious. She uses fresh and local ingredients and she is innovative in making healthy food tasty. Recently she made a Thai Shrimp soup that was perfectly spiced. She can accommodate any special requirements. Ellen is well versed in alternative options. She knows how to cook gluten free and often uses sugar alternatives in baking. I can't wait to taste the next creation she makes.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
