- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My education starts right here at home near the Boston area where a wealth of knowledge was to be had. My private studies here locally included Alan Dawson, Gary Chaffee, Dick DiCenso, Gene Roma, and Bob Gullotti ( absolute incredible masters) I was fortunate to have studied with them in the early formative years. One year at Berklee and then off to PIT Musicians Institute where I found it very inspiring to be around working professionals like Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey ,Casey Scheurell ,Walfrdo Reyes, Steve Houghton and others to round out my studies. While there I sought out my all time favorite drummer David Garibaldi for private lessons further solidifying my wealth of knowledge on the instrument and diving into the L.A music scene playing many different musical styles. Upon returning to the Boston area I took up some additional lesson with master jazz drummer Ralph Peterson where my jazz studies really became a part of my focus up until now. Upon leaving school I worked o three major cruise lines throughout south America , Caribbean and Puerto Rico playing many different styles and shows that gave me a great insight as how to adapt for many different artists in a short amount of time. I was the youngest by 20 years in that band so there was much to learn that I had not been exposed to in school or my previous experiences. Upon arriving back home I was called to fill the chair for the exiting drummer and musical director of the band Tavares , a staple in the touring disco market supporting the success of their records and hits on radio. While in that band I co lead the band the Shakers in and around the Boston area that played an in depth selection of world beat based rhythms that included west African,Calypso,Reggae,Socca and was recognized by Rhythm magazine for the original grooves that I constructed and shared with the Magazine in the early 90's. Its been a journey for sure but around that time I got involved in many different band and began a long stint in the recording studios laying down tracks for many different artists in the New England area until the evolving recording industry went though some changes leaving many to share less work. Like any vocation you choose there will be changes and a need to change with the times. Around the mid 90's I began a 20 year gig with a corporate function group while still playing some regular jazz gigs and casuals but there is no question, thats where the money is... lol I have continued that gig until today but really focussing on education and my own jazz recordings. My drumming career has with like many endevors come full circle and has returned back to the reason why I began this journey in the first place. The love of drums ! It give me great joy to watch someone learn something new that propels their abilities and gives them the confidence needed to tackle nearly any situation they may arise.
