Julissa tutored my son in Math for part of his junior year of high school. There was a definite improvement in his grades. But Julissa did more than tutor him, she gave him study methods and relaxation methods for his test anxiety. She also discussed with him his plans for the future and gave advice on what he needed to do to achieve his goals. The location at the library in Parkville was perfect as a safe public place, but still afforded quiet working accommodations. I highly recommend Julissa as a tutor!

I could not seem to score well on the ACT. I ended up with Arbor Tutors and had a tutor who met me every week for 8 weeks and when I took the test and got an excellent score (33). Worth every cent.

My daughter has come across many tutors, but non like Nema. Simply put – Nema is passionate about learning; an essential characteristic of any tutor. He empowers you to master the art of math in a way I have not seen before. I’ve observed his method of story-telling and repetition to help my daughter learn math concepts. In a matter of three visits, she has learned trigonometry and then some. What I also value is the reinforcement work that Nema leaves her with after each visit. I am utterly pleased with Nema’s performance and his price range, which many families can work with.

Mr. Mougy Ahmed has done wonders as a math tutor for our sophomore son! He has a very agreeable, non-threatening tutoring style, and our son enjoyed working with him right away. Our son was getting D's and C's in Algebra II , even with the assistance of a previous math tutor. Mougy came to our house and immediately recognized where our son was misunderstanding foundational concepts in Algebra II, and worked with him to build up that knowledge base and apply those skills correctly. He has been highly responsive in setting up tutoring sessions, sending additional lessons/exercises via email, and even holding extra sessions in advance of math tests/quizzes. As a direct result of Mougy's tutoring, our son earned a B+ and an A on his last two math tests. We highly recommend him to any student or parent who is searching for tutoring assistance.

Anna provided top-notch tutoring and university consulting for our daughter and I am delighted to endorse her. I was very impressed with Anna's positive and constructive style of SAT preparation. In addition, Anna was very professional, knowledgable and encouraging during the application process. Anna has a lovely way of dealing with young people that helps bring out the best in them. I am very pleased we had Anna's assistance to help get our daughter into her first choice of university.

This tutor was extremely instrumental in helping me pass my precalculus course. I never was strong in math and this course originally presented itself as as a challenge that could potentially prevent me from meeting my degree requirements. The "Guru" was very patient with me as he guided me through homework and how to tackle difficult precalc equations on a step by step approach. My tutor was persisistent and assisted me with problems until he and myself was at a comfortable state and did not stop until he felt that I had a clear and strong grasp of the material. His prices were very reasonable and he accommodated my schedule as well as making sure we had a suitable location in my area for us to meet on a weekly basis. The end results was receiving an "A" in this course which would have never been attainable without his help. I am truly grateful for Mr. Prakash and I strongly reccomend this tutor to anyone who struggles with math and specifically precalc and calc as I continue to work with him as I persue my degree.

Dale was a great ACT tutor, especially when it came to teaching an international student the ins and outs of the Reading and Writing sections. Since we started working two weeks before the test date, Dale laid out a great strategy of drilling practice tests and helped us find our weak points to review. He had a great base of resources and experience to help us not only with tactics and test taking skills, but how we could apply these study techniques to a broad range of tests and classes.

My daughter is an elementary school students. At one of the teacher-parent meetings last school year we were informed that she has difficulties with understanding certain maths concepts. We decided to find a tutor for her so the problems don't get any worse. We contacted Ms Dominika and she helped our daughter understand the things she had issues with. The atmosphere during their meetings was so friendly that our daughter not only learn a lot but also had fun doing it.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I prepare for the GMAT?

If you’re thinking of enrolling in graduate school to earn your MBA, it’s time to start thinking about preparing for the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). Working with a GMAT tutor is for many people a wise investment to help you strengthen the academic areas you may be weak in and improving your overall test score. A GMAT prep tutor should teach you not only the kind of information you need to know for the test, but the best test-taking strategies. The GMAT tests you on four categories: quantitative, verbal, integrated reasoning, and an analytical writing assessment. Cramming is probably not going to give you good results for this standardized test; give yourself between two and six months to prepare, focusing on your most challenging areas first. Successful GMAT prep means planning ahead and studying thoroughly. Those students who reported studying under 75 hours were more likely to score 400 or lower on the test, while students who studied 121 hours or more were more likely to score 700 or higher on the test. Hiring a GMAT prep tutor can range in price from under $50 to over $200 per hour.

How long does it take to prepare for the GMAT?

Pros recommend planning to spend two to six months for GMAT prep. The test itself is only 3.5 hours long, but your score will have a major effect on what schools grant you admission. If you’d like to be considered for one of the top-tier schools, it’s recommended to score at least a 700. Your goals for your MBA can help drive your GMAT prep. GMAT tutors will guide your study plan and help analyze your strengths and weaknesses. GMAT tutors also offer professional guidance and insights on strategic GMAT test-taking. Avail yourself of free GMAT prep software that provides sample test questions for you to practice. The creators of the GMAT recommend creating a structured study plan detailing when you will study each day and what topics you will study during each session. Take into account what style of learning works best for you (solo study, one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, study groups, prep courses) and proceed accordingly. The test is made up of these four categories, each with an allotted time:

    • Analytical writing assessment: 1 topic, 30 minutes.
    • Integrated reasoning: 12 questions, 30 minutes.
    • Quantitative: 37 questions, 75 minutes.
    • Verbal: 41 questions: 75 minutes.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
