I have used Name Your Price Movers twice. Once for an in-town move (rockville to s.s.) and also for an out of state move (Md to Fl), and both times I was extremely pleased. First of all, dealing with Ali is a pleasure as he will get the details of your move and work the best price for what you need to accomplish. He is flexible and knowledgable, and works to make sure the customer is happy first. The moving teams that show up are amazingly fast and efficient, especially if you have your stuff packed when they arrive - they just go on a walk through to get an eye for what is being moved and then BOOM, super fast it goes into the truck. And packed well into the truck too, I must add; it's not like they just throw everything in. Furniture is placed in tight and secure, and lighter boxes on top, etc. Nothing was broken. No chips or dents on anything. This is top notch moving; what you need when you need it, and at a reasonable rate. I highly recommend you contact Ali/ Egor and setup services for your next move.

Working with Max and Dulles Logistics and Rentals was GREAT! I've used plenty of movers over the years, both local and out-of-state, and my experience was wonderful. I'm always hesitant hiring movers because I've had a lot of bad experiences, but this company was awesome. I had 2 movers for my 1 bedroom local move, and they were hard-working, diligent, patient, and meticulous with my items. I could not have asked for a better experience & I thank Max for his wonderful customer service and his great job! -Leila B

Moving from one state to another is never easy but this is not the case with Baku Moving. I have recently moved to VA from TN. I thought it would be very hard for us but I was wrong because of the efficiency of this great company. The sales rep was very experienced about the entire moving process. He explained the entire moving process in detail, sent a guy at our house for the onsite estimate and then assigned the moving team to do the packing and loading. Everything went smoothly and without any delay. They unloaded all my belongings and helped us unpacking. It was great to have everything in one piece. Best moving service.

I was moving out of state (VA to FL) and I had a few quotes done and Smart Moving came at the best price and the only ones who would accommodate the exact schedule I needed. They don't bubble wrap your fragile items so we did that but understandable b/c it was an affordable rate! Just make sure to wrap everything you don't have dinged :) Would recco!

I hired Charlie's moving and hauling for a move from Baltimore to Rockville, MD. While admittedly the amount of items I had far exceeded what was expected of a 1 bedroom apartment they pushed through with no complaints. Charlie and his crew were extremely professional and were very diligent about getting the job done quickly and safely. These guys are the best deal you can possibly get in the state in my opinion and I would definitely use them again.

After getting many quotes from larger companies that I did not feel comfortable with, I found Great Nation Movers on Thumbtack and felt as if I was getting a personal and professional estimate. The manager was extremely helpful in explaining to me exactly what would happen on the day of the move. He was very understanding as to our situation. We were moving out of state and we needed a fast delivery from one state to another 800 miles away. When calling larger corporate companies, they did not understand and were trying to make it a longer time spread than job needed be. After talking to the manager here, he understood what we were needing to be done, took a full inventory of what needed to be moved from both houses and gave me a very fair price for the job. On the day of the move, guys showed up very early (as per my request) and worked efficiently to pack up all of our belonging into the moving truck. We were pack, loaded, travelled across 5 states and unpacked the following afternoon! This was greatly appreciated by myself and my family! Highly Recommend.

I hired Proah to move a sectional from a furniture store. They arrived exactly when they said and were very careful with our new furniture. Although our plans had to change due to the couch not fitting in its originally intended location. They were very open to a new solution and helped move a different sofa set into the new area while moving the new set in the old. All while they had already moved the new love seat and had to move it again to its final spot. I would highly recommend hiring Proah and intend to hire them in the future.

Anthony and Eastbay were so great during my recent move- I had blocked off an hour to move a small load to a truck to drive out-of-state and they got it done efficiently. Everything was in it's place and packed perfectly. I can't recommend Eastbay Movers enough!!

Overall great experience. We hired this company because they follow all rules of FMCSA gov and state laws for out of state relocation, they do not have any complains. It was not easy to find a honest moving company like Skyride. They packed and moved all our furniture and i can not see any damage or minor scratches on my furniture. I will recommend these folks to all my friends, relatives up in DMV area.

Two men and a truck arrived at my place of pickup. They were courteous and very polite! They came right to us after another job in another state, but they served us as if we were their one and only customer. They arrive when they said they would and they didn't leave until they were finished. Superb work with great attitudes!

Adrian and his team mate Brad were excellent with their service. They moved my 1 bed room apartment to a town home in the space of 3 hours. Brad was able to hold a 8 foot sofa all by himself as both of them moved it through the gallery of our apartment on the 2nd floor. They were really fast with their moving and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. Very punctual and excellent with communication :)

I utilized pick up movers last month on January 2nd. I was delivered by January 15th. Everthing went smooth like a well oiled machine. I never had a professional move, I usually move myself with the help of my husband and 2 boys until I moved out of state. My husband isn't very easily satisfied and he couldn't be happier with the effortless portion on our part. I appreciate the pricing and the service the movers were very courteous. Thank You!

Marvin, Gerald, and Rob did a great job loading and unloading our 1.5-bedroom belongings. They arrived on-time, and worked very efficiently each time, though the loading and unloading were done on separate days. Marvin was flexible while scheduling us, which was really helpful. Would definitely use M&M again for another local move.

JAF Cleaning Service was fantastic. Our area experienced heavy constant rainfall for about 2 weeks straight and like many others, the ultra-amount of rain was causing basement water troubles which were being compounded by the fact that our gutters were clogged. Our gutters were spilling large amounts of water right against our foundation - Many other places wanted to come out for a quote and then schedule the service weeks out. There were more storms coming our way and we simply couldn't make it through another storm without this being resolved. JAF Cleaning Services responded and scheduled a time within a day or two of initial contact and quoted a very competitive price. Our gutters are now clear and our basement is drying up. Will absolutely call him again in the future for gutters and other services. Highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
