I am a senior at American University and first contacted Bill to help me prep for the math portion of the GRE. I experienced a jump of over 10 points on my math portion after working with Bill! Bill is an awesome tutor. He is flexible and quick to respond to changes in my busy schedule. He is also high energy and makes the process exciting! It was apparent during our first lesson that Bill really has a passion for teaching mathematics.

My daughter was struggling with some math concepts in her high school Algebra course, and Kendra (Acumen Tutoring) was instrumental in helping my daughter gain a better grasp of the concepts. My daughter stated to Kendra, "You make math so easy to understand." In addition, Kendra helped me put together some resumes and cover letters, giving advice or editing as needed. She worked with me every step of the way to make sure that I was effectively stating what I wanted to say about my experience and skills. Her assistance was invaluable in landing me a couple of positions. Thanks for all of your help!

Babak Eslami did his utmost to prepare an adult who had very poor skills in Mathematics, and who has been out of school for more than two decades for the GMAT. His price was the most competitive among all who quoted from Thumbtack. I do recommend him without any reservations. The prospective student must bear in mind that he is not a magician, though. The student should ensure to put in the required time and effort.

Jessica and her team at Modern Muse Education are sincere, intelligent, and professional. Their new Gaithersburg facility is wonderful and provides students with a comfortable place to get test help (she even provides snacks!). Jessica and her team are not only extremely patient and educated on the test themselves, but also connect the testing content to public and private school curriculums, customizing a student’s test prep course based on their current grade level and course schedule. The course provides students with everything they need to succeed on the test, as well as how to evaluate their test scores to identify what they need to improve on future tests. I 100% reccomend Modern Muse Education for all students in need of SAT/ACT prep!

Club Z is a terrific program. We loved the in home tutoring. That saved so much time for us and we used the program for two of our daughters. We did a summer reading program and SAT prep course. The tutors were highly qualified and each of them worked really well with our girls. The tutors were also very flexible and that was so appreciated with a busy household full of schedule changes. Our students are better prepared for the upcoming challenges. We highly recommend Club Z.

My daughter was recently tutored by Sam for a college pre-cal/trig summer school course. The pace was fast and by the time we called Sam, she was in the fifth of her sixth week. By week 5 her grades were taking a downward spiral as the material was getting more complex. She was teetering on the precipice with a C-. After one intense week of working with Sam she finished with a B. He worked magic. He was patient and and an excellent teacher .I initially worried that he would be "too qualified" to tutor the course, but he was able to explain math to my rising sophomore college daughter, who has always struggled with the subject. He was the best math tutor my daughter has ever had. And a very nice man.

In Class Solutions was the solution to my children's homework problems. My tutor, Pamela Mitchell. is super professional, super fast at finding out what my kids were missing academically, and got them exactly what they needed. She also did SSAT prep with my oldest daughter to prepare her for the private middle school admissions process. Overall, I cannot recommend In Class Solutions enough! They were thorough in their assessment of my kids, and continue to be my childrens' secret weapon for getting straight A's in school year after year.

      About

My work stands out because I was once one of the students who thought math was an undecipherable mess until I learned how easy it can if it was just explained in an unintimidating way. I can identify with students who have trouble in math, which makes me patient and understanding with my students.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I prepare for the GMAT?

If you’re thinking of enrolling in graduate school to earn your MBA, it’s time to start thinking about preparing for the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). Working with a GMAT tutor is for many people a wise investment to help you strengthen the academic areas you may be weak in and improving your overall test score. A GMAT prep tutor should teach you not only the kind of information you need to know for the test, but the best test-taking strategies. The GMAT tests you on four categories: quantitative, verbal, integrated reasoning, and an analytical writing assessment. Cramming is probably not going to give you good results for this standardized test; give yourself between two and six months to prepare, focusing on your most challenging areas first. Successful GMAT prep means planning ahead and studying thoroughly. Those students who reported studying under 75 hours were more likely to score 400 or lower on the test, while students who studied 121 hours or more were more likely to score 700 or higher on the test. Hiring a GMAT prep tutor can range in price from under $50 to over $200 per hour.

How long does it take to prepare for the GMAT?

Pros recommend planning to spend two to six months for GMAT prep. The test itself is only 3.5 hours long, but your score will have a major effect on what schools grant you admission. If you’d like to be considered for one of the top-tier schools, it’s recommended to score at least a 700. Your goals for your MBA can help drive your GMAT prep. GMAT tutors will guide your study plan and help analyze your strengths and weaknesses. GMAT tutors also offer professional guidance and insights on strategic GMAT test-taking. Avail yourself of free GMAT prep software that provides sample test questions for you to practice. The creators of the GMAT recommend creating a structured study plan detailing when you will study each day and what topics you will study during each session. Take into account what style of learning works best for you (solo study, one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, study groups, prep courses) and proceed accordingly. The test is made up of these four categories, each with an allotted time:

      • Analytical writing assessment: 1 topic, 30 minutes.
      • Integrated reasoning: 12 questions, 30 minutes.
      • Quantitative: 37 questions, 75 minutes.
      • Verbal: 41 questions: 75 minutes.
