I took two Spanish classes from Ms. Carvallo. The classes were very small - almost like being tutored, and they had a wide range of skill levels, including students learning Spanish from their second language, English. Ms. Carvallo teaches so that all students are engaged, learning and having fun. Ms. Carvallo pushes her students so that we are growing and learning, but never in a judgmental or negative way. She is very patient and positive. Her technical skills are wonderful. I highly recommend Ms. Carvallo.

I started learning Spanish with Mrs. Patricia 3 weeks ago. My Spanish improved dramatically over the past 3 weeks although my starting base was almost zero Spanish. Patricia is very honest, dedicated and wrk with passion. She even taught me the correct accent and I learn the Spanish grammar with her in less than a week !! She's a great teacher and I highly recommend her. She's not only my tutor but now became a friend of th family too ! We love Mrs. Patricia !!

I highly recommend Spanish by Lorna - she is amazing! My son was having extreme difficulties with his Spanish class in school. I had minimal success finding a tutor who could get through to him because he was really not excited about learning a new language. But, in just a few short sessions, Lorna had him completely engaged in the learning process and his results were amazing. Not only did his Spanish grade improve from a C to an A, but he also began looking forward to his lessons and getting ahead on his homework assignments. I cannot thank Lorna enough for her ongoing help with my son, and I totally recommend Spanish by Lorna for your Spanish tutoring needs. Trust me - you will be very glad with your choice!

I took Spanish lessons from Eduardo for 3 years and would highly recommend him. I studied Spanish for several years in high school, but I remembered almost nothing when I started with Eduardo. By the end of the lessons, I was able to speak confidently and at a high level. Eduardo is very professional and passionate about the language. His lessons are also very different than what you would encounter in school. He does a great job of incorporating television shows and literature that is appropriate for your level. He also devotes a good part of the lesson to conversation to improve your confidence and speaking abilities.

Mirna listened to what I wanted to get out of lessons with her-namely improve my grammar and written skills ( I speak some Spanish). She used resources that were interesting for me such as newspaper articles on economics, politics and culture. Her lessons were a pleasure at the same time BECAUSE they were interesting. She helped me tremendously.

Patricia is a wonderful Spanish tutor. I have been working with Patricia for about a month and feel like I have learned more than I did in 4 years of Spanish in school. Patricia will challenge you but in a very kind, encouraging way. I look forward to my weekly lessons! Highly recommend!

Yanira has been my Spanish teacher since September. She is incredibly talented, patient and motivating. Yanira has a gift to make you feel at ease and pushing you to talk. She is using all sorts of material to make you want to learn. For instance she is using What's App to get the class to talk between classes and songs or games in class to introduce us to new vocabulary. Each class is fun and has helped me progress. In addition, Yanira is a very warm and fun person who makes one feels great no matter what the days bring, I have no doubt Yanira's business will be extremely successful.

Jeane gave me private and group Spanish lessons for several months and I saw my Spanish language skills improve exponentially. She was very thorough with her explanations and always demonstrated patience when teaching me new or difficult concepts. She made the learning environment fun and relevant by helping me read Spanish media outlets and provided me with tons of great video material and music to help me learn without making the experience dull. I would recommend anyone who is looking to brush up or become more proficient in their Spanish speaking skills to use Jeane as their tutor. She is an outstanding instructor and mentor and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. Thanks Jeane!

She has an comprehensive knowledge of Spanish, but never made it overly complicated either. I'm looking forward to more lessons with her.

Mrs.Arlette has responded to my needs in grammar and in writing a sentence. She corrects my pronunciation when I am not doing it right. She also assigned homework that helped me to learn about history, for example, the life of George Washington. I have learned a lot of vocabulary from reading. Besides from studying English Iearned about American culture.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
