Hired on Thumbtack

I placed a request for help with my laptop through Thumbtack during the fall of 2014. My system crashed many times over the course of a few days and finally would not fully boot. Mr. Paarlberg quickly replied to my request offering a quote and information about possible solutions to my problem. His quote was far more affordable than the others who responded. Additionally, he mentioned that he would be willing to try multiple options to avoid reinstalling my OS or having to replace the HD. Mr. Paarlberg made arrangements to obtain my laptop immediately and even offered to pick it up from my residence. He quickly backed up my data, diagnosed the problem, and offered me a couple options. Unfortunately, it turned out that my HD was badly damaged and needed to be replaced (the machine is rather old). The chosen option was completed in less than a day and my machine was promptly returned. Mr. Paarlberg suggested an alternative OS to what I was previously using and went well above any possible expectations in meeting with me to explain his work and the new system. Additionally, he included a number of great (FREE) resources to learn more about the new Linux system. I am thoroughly pleased with Mr. Paarlberg's work, suggestions, and turnaround times. Additionally, the entire repair/system replacement was far less costly than I could have ever imagined. In general, I had a great experience having my system restored by Mr. Paarlberg. I wholeheartedly recommend his services.

I have had Jonathon Paarllberg come to my home for computer tutorials, since I am of the older generation unfamiliar with computers. I have liked his service very much, for me makes me feel at ease with something I inherently dislike. More than that, he is extremely good and solid in his role as computer tutor. He is very knowledgeable about the topic and knows exactly how to pitch it to me. He is flexible about my learning style and obviously likes teaching. HIs charge for tutoring is extremely modest. He is remarkably honest and is obviously bright. He has been very tolerant of home conditions. I like him a lot and am learning much! I"m very glad to have found him. Generally, I have no complaints, for he's the best. We could improve in how we set up the sessions, though the fault is mine as much as his. Promptness on his part would be a move in the right direction. I don't think he could possibly be better than he already is in this much-loved role. Absolutely nothing of importance has gone wrong.

I called Jonathon and I told him the problem with my computer. He knew what the problem might be and he told me what it would cause to fix the problem. He explained to me what it would take to fix the computer and how much it would cost. He came to my house on time and took my computer back to his shop to repair the computer. He fixed my computer very fast and brought the computer back. The price to fix my computer was very reasonable. Jonathon took his time to explain the new system he installed on my computer. Jonathan does excellent work and if I have any computer problems, I am calling him first

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. I read posts on forums posted by other computer repair technicians, do-it-yourselfers and computer repair business owners. I also learn a lot about new developments through my reading about open-source software and Linux.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
It started as a hobby. I learned computing on an Apple IIE in high school and I gained a respect for the services a computer could perform for people. Later, I noticed an old laptop computer in the trash. That thing probably sold for over a thousand dollars when it was new, but here it was discarded like an old newspaper. I was stricken by its fall into the gutter. I decided to help it out. I enjoyed reviving it and I continue to enjoy bringing older hardware back to life.
