Introduction: About the photographer Valerie Phillips is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and graduate of Norfolk State University with a B.A. in Fine Arts.
Valerie has been a professional freelance photography and storyteller for more than 30 years. Her photography credits include such notables as Patti Labelle, Alice Walker, Cab Calloway, Jennifer Holiday, Tramaine Hawkins, Joyce Elders, Mary Wilson, Rosa Parks, Shelia E., Aretha Franklin, Dominique Dawes, and Maya Angelou.
Valerie has frequently been commissioned to photograph special events including, but are not limited to: The Tipper Gore AIDS Walk and dedication of the Elizabeth Taylor Whitman Walker Medical Center, The Pediatric Care Foundation Gospel Voices for Children, Human Rights Campaign (HBCU Summit), National Black Justice Coalition (Out on the Hill Summit), Octane Public Relations, Center For Black Equity, Friendship House Public Charter School, and just recently photographed The YWCA National Capital Luncheon 2013, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.'s 51st National Convention, and 50th Anniversary March On Washington.
Valerie is known as the photographer who is always, "at the right place, and at the right time" When asked about her work, Valerie says "art has always inspired me. I trust the creative process; it moves and expresses itself through me, guiding me to create the unique structures, shapes and forms found in my work."
Valerie has created five calendars; however, each project has its own personality, reflecting her journey, spiritual growth, creativity, and strength.
