A washer and dryer were moved. This was on very short notice and they were very accommodating even moving them after normal work hours from one house to another about 20 miles away. My son said they were very careful, friendly and professional. We plan on calling them again for another move in the near future and referring other people. It's hard to find people who will do small moves and not charge you as though they are moving a complete house. These guys are great.

The crew that came to clean my home was efficient and thorough. They did a GREAT job. The best part was probably that my house didn't reek of bleach when they were done, instead, the house smelled fresh and floral. I forgot to put out sheets, but when dusting the doorways, the ladies found my linen closet and called me upstairs to select the sheets I wanted on the bed. I will definitely be using them again. Zandra came over to clean and organize our garage which was 7 plus years of stuff, of chaos and mess. We had great initial conversations on what I needed and she was immediately available. Zandra was very upfront with pricing and explaining how she would take on the job. She showed up on time and went right to work. She and her colleague were respectful of my space and my things. Zandra was honest, we scheduled 9 hrs day one and after 4 hours she said she did not want to take my money when she was at a standstill needing storage bins and shelving so she left 5 hours early and returned a few days later to complete the job. She constantly communicated with me, was patient when I checked on her and always explained her progress. I liked that she card what I read thinking and if I was pleased throughout the time she worked in my space. My husband was parentheses surprised with the transformation of if the garage and wishes to use her again as do I. Zandra is my second Thumbtack service provider and she was worth the money for the organization provided, peace of mind and the headache she saved me from. I also want to note that in the end Zandra said she had 2 hours left and 90 minutes into that time called which I appreciated to let me know she would require a little more time to finish the project and allowed me to decide on how she should proceed which I appreciated. It is nice to have a great service provider but wonderful to have one with honesty and great character.

After finally coming to the conclusion last weekend that after years of not being able to use my guestroom as a guestroom (nor even being able to get into it). That I was unable to get it organized on my own, it just overwhelmed me so I couldn’t get it organized and cleaned out (let alone several other rooms in the house). Consequently, we had many boxes that were mislabeled, placed on the wrong floor of the house, or just simply packed in a haphazard manner. This is where Jamie and her terrific team of organizers came in. I had never worked with organizing professionals before, and did not anticipate that this could be a life-changing experience. Over the course of two days, Jamie and her team worked tirelessly to ensure that everything had a "home" (or a plan for a home). The level of moving stress declined precipitously as Jamie and her team helped us to figure out systems that we could build on going forward. The entire team was professional and caring. Overall, this was a great investment in bringing "calm" to our settling in process.

The organizers from A New Leaf who worked with me were wonderful. The arrangement is that there is a "lead" person plus one or two additional workers. Each person has different strengths, and my lead person was very helpful with getting the right people in for what I needed done and arranging for each person to work to their strengths. I also have to say that everyone pitched right in to do whatever needed to be done. At times that meant packing things, or going through stacks of papers, or even helping to move furniture around. By the end we had given away, recycled, or thrown out tons of stuff, and pretty much everything that remains has a place it belongs in the house. Much neater, more organized, and cleaner!

Months ago, I looked for someone to do a small painting project on Thumbtack. And I ended up with a brand new home. Christian, Jessica, Hector and the rest of the team at 5th Gen Group honestly do miracles. We own a 100+ year old row home in Washington DC and we've had problems ever since we moved in five years ago. After dealing with four different contractors that left me unsatisfied, I tried Thumbtack (at that time, new in the DC area). Christian came out to do an estimate and I was impressed by him from the get go - as a woman, I hate when contractors act like I'm stupid or uninformed. Christian never did that, and he answered all my questions respectfully and thoroughly and would defer to my wishes. We initially contracted for a gut remodel of our ancient kitchen and leaking bathroom. Christian's professional opinion was heavily appreciated as well as his vision - he instantly "got" the feel of a space and spent a lot of time listening to not only what we wanted, but how we would use the space and what we planned for the house in the future. Of course, the best laid plans always go awry - we knew our house had a few "handyman specials" but once Christian opened up the floor in the kitchen, we realized we were really in for it. Down there was a hidden mess of rotting wires, missing piping, garbage from the last renovations, and rotted-out beams. Overnight, our budget doubled. I personally wanted to die. But Christian calmly lead us through the process, helped us try to salvage our murdered budget, and focused on explaining the trade-off in home values. We ended up with an additional half bath downstairs (because really, what was another 5K at that point?), brand new kitchen (with a small bar!) a brand new stairwell and relocated laundry room, and a brand new bathroom with a shower (after 5 years of an ancient leaking cast iron tub). Christian isn't completely perfect - he's totally a perfectionist, and if you are one too, be prepared for some long conversations. There is an epic texting exchange over the bathroom tile that I may print out just to see how long it really was. But that's about the only thing. Also, for the other ladies on here- I always hate opening my home to someone because I have had bad experiences with contractors who were, at best, creepy. Christian and Hector were completely professional, and they really went the extra mile to make sure I always knew who would be in the house, when they would arrive, and how to reach both of them. Christian also has a lot of loyalty and integrity toward his clients - he is always fair, both in pricing and in the treatment of your home. He broke a small appliance - the only reason I knew was because he called me when he was purchasing an (upgraded) replacement on his own dime. All renovations are hard projects, long projects, and frequently frustrating. There was definitely a day when I wanted to kill Christian for sending me out to two different quarries in far out Virginia right around rush around. But when I stepped into my home for the first time, I couldn't stop smiling. And when we finally scrape together the budget for a third floor extension, I know exactly who I am calling.

We hired Christian and 5th Gen to do a full gut of our kitchen including opening up a wall to our dining room, plus some work to better integrate the former sleeping porch at the back of the house. From the initial meeting, Christian seemed genuinely interested in our project and in being a good thought partner for us, and that continued throughout the project. 5th Gen is a small, family operation with all of the associated pros and cons. They are helpful, friendly, responsive, and genuinely invested. With limited capacity, it can be hard to nail down a start date, or someone gets sick and hard to reach for a day or two. As they so often do, our scope expanded in the course of the project (along with our budget), but in the end we are SO happy with our kitchen and dining area. Hector, our foreman, was great to work with, and supportive of every crazy question or idea we came up with. If anything, he let us add too much without reigning us in. If your budget is firm, we would recommend pushing for regular timeline and budget updates to ensure you stay on track -- we would have benefited from some earlier communication on that front. All fair and worth it, but would have appreciated more warning. The team seemed to take this feedback very seriously when it was provided, and seems ready to make the adjustments. If a small, flexible operation you can really work with is what you want, 5th Gen is a great choice.

After finding out I need tailoring done on a pair of pants within the next 48 hours for a wedding, as the suit I had gotten arrived with unhemmed pants. Due to my busy schedule, I couldn't get it done any sooner than this last minute.
