When I first met Melinda I was a hot mess. I originally just got massage for neck and low back pain back in 2014. She has been with me through many health problems including pancreatic cancer and diabetes. My doctor kept bugging me to lose weight for years so I decided to get hypnosis for weight loss. It was amazing!!!!!! We did 3 sessions together and she tailored the session to me, because as a diabetic she couldn't have me skipping meals or eating less, just healthier choices. I have kept off 42 pounds since our session last year. Highly recommend both the massage and hypnosis by Melinda.

I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Tim Miles and his professionalism. I was a bit nervous about going for hypnosis, but once I had my new client session, I saw how beneficial working with Tim would be. He is honest, direct, kind, and compassionate about life's woes. I have signed up for my 2nd appt in another week, but only because I could feel a real difference just after 1 session, not because Tim suggested (or pushed) it. He seems to be really concerned about people getting help.

I visited Jim to help me navigate out of the throes of depression. He was quite welcoming and from the moment I entered his office I felt as though I was visiting a good friend. He makes you want to listen to him with his words of wisdom and experience. He also has this intuitive ability to key in on your areas of deficiency without asking intrusive questions. He is one of those therapists who are in the practice to help others as he will spend quality time with his patients for a standard fee -- time was not an issue at all. I left his office feeling like I had taken a major step into a healing process with a mentor with whom I can complete this journey. Thanks Jim.

The Clearing Place is unique because Dr. Taylor utilizes a technique called Cell Command Therapy®. Cell Command Therapy® is the result of many experiences by Ed R. Martin and other PATH Foundation therapists working with hypnosis and hypnotherapy. It began after seeing remarkable healing results that were generated in clients that went into deep trance and were given direct commands for physical changes, like removing or healing from warts. The suggestions in this deep level of trance appeared to trigger the automatic parts of the brain and cause cellular regeneration to occur. After numerous experiments it was found that the regeneration could eliminate or discard the error codes or the messages that were stored in the cells that caused pain, disease, illness or deterioration like aging. These hypnotic cell commands given in this framework seem to directly affect only the cells and parts of the body that they are directed toward. We are one of the few, (if only) hypnotherapy providers that help people actually deal with the real root of the problem behavior, as opposed to just simple hypnosis suggestions, which only are addressing the symptoms (the behavior itself). It's like just cutting off the weed at the surface as opposed to dealing with the roots. If you would like to really change and become a new person where that old way of living just doesn't fit with who you are - as opposed to just getting rid of a behavior - then please give us a call. I love seeing transformation in our clients. Where before they had a huge problem that was causing them all sorts of pain, problems, anxiety, worry - and now - they just don't have any of that. Our smokers used to be TERRIFIED of the cravings and what would happen when they quit - so they never did. We helped them deal with cravings in a totally new way, to the point where it just wasn't a big deal AT ALL. Our weight loss clients would beat themselves up mentally. Now, they're just going through life with a totally new mindset with regards to eating and exercise. Clients have called us up with CRIPPLING anxiety - all they could think about is how the anxiety is all they think about, how they just didn't want to feel this way anymore. And now, they're totally focused on other things - almost like they can't even imagine how they could have had that problem in the first place. It's THOSE kind of transformation stories I love seeing - each and every day I come into the office.

We have been helping people for over 12 years use the power of hypnosis to take back control of their lives. Our process is completely about YOU - we give you what you need, when you need it. We love helping people experience those changes that they so desire in their lives. We love seeing that "wow" moment when they realize something really has changed for them.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is a wellness technique that works by promoting positive behavioral or cognitive changes. During successful hypnosis, the client should be eased into a state of deep relaxation in which the conscious mind takes a back seat and the subconscious mind becomes more active. The client is often able to let go of critical thoughts and become receptive to the therapist’s suggestions. In this state of hypnosis, motivating suggestions can bypass your usual mental resistance and internal defense mechanisms. For example, even if you want to quit overeating cupcakes, you may have some level of resistance that your rational mind can’t overcome. During hypnosis, the positive suggestions made by the hypnotherapist can bypass your usual blocks, helping you to achieve the formerly unachievable: stopping overeating, quitting smoking, mastering public speaking, or losing your fear of heights. The goal of hypnosis is to strengthen and empower the client’s motivation, commitment and focus. Consider working with someone who is not just trained in hypnosis but also is a licensed therapist or psychotherapist who can bring their academic background into your session.

What can hypnosis help you with?

According to many sources including the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) which is part of the United States National Library of Medicine and a branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), hypnosis is scientifically proven to help relieve both mental challenges and physical pains. Hypnosis can alleviate stress and reduce pain after surgeries, has been shown to relieve anxiety in children in the emergency room, and can be useful for managing pain associated with everything from arthritis to migraines. Hypnosis is non-invasive and gives you a way to control pain or discomfort that might otherwise seem out of your hands. Hypnosis shouldn’t be used as a substitute for medical care, but may be an excellent complementary tool that is best provided by a trained therapist or licensed medical provider. The University of Maryland Medical Center shares many conditions for which hypnosis can be useful:

    • Irritable bowel syndrome
    • Tension headaches
    • Alopecia areata
    • Asthma
    • Phobias
    • Insomnia
    • Addictions
    • Bedwetting
    • Fibromyalgia
    • Labor and delivery
    • Skin disorders, such as acne, psoriasis and eczema (atopic dermatitis)
    • Stress
    • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
    • Cancer-related pain
    • Weight loss
    • Eating disorders
    • Warts
    • Indigestion (dyspepsia)
    • Post-traumatic stress disorder
    • Smoking cessation

How is hypnosis used in therapy?

Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help clients overcome challenging issues such as anxiety, phobias, pain management, hot flashes and more. Hypnosis is also a way to help let go of addictions like smoking, overeating and gambling. In and of itself, hypnosis is not a therapy, but it can be used in conjunction with therapy to empower and encourage the person receiving it to make positive change. Some people are more susceptible to hypnosis and will benefit more from hypnotherapy than others.

According to Dr. Clifford N. Lazarus, speaking for Psychology Today, hypnosis is a “genuine psychological phenomenon that has valid uses in clinical practice … hypnosis is a state of highly focused attention or concentration, often associated with relaxation, and heightened suggestibility. While under hypnosis (i.e., in a hypnotic trance), it seems many people are much more open to helpful suggestions than they usually are.” The suggestions made in a therapeutic setting get deep into a person’s brain, beyond their conscious thinking, leading to behavior change and the ability to overcome challenges that might otherwise seem insurmountable.

What is the effectiveness of hypnosis?

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recognizes the healing power of hypnosis and its proven effectiveness for anxiety, pain control, smoking cessation, headaches and more. Hypnosis may be safe and complementary way to augment medical attention you are receiving for a chronic illness or pain, or a way to resolve an addiction or phobia that you are otherwise unable to control. Hypnosis does not work on every person. When scientists began studying hypnosis in earnest, a report published by Stanford University titled “The Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale” demonstrated that different brains respond to hypnosis in varying degrees, and a very few do not respond at all. Working with a trained psychologist, you’ll soon determine whether you are a good candidate for the healing benefits of hypnotherapy.

During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist will bring you into a state of deep relaxation in which the critical, conscious part of your brain recedes and the subconscious mind becomes alert and focused. The therapist will make suggestions, based on your intended goals, that will take root in your subconscious mind. These suggestions should affect your thinking in a positive way and empower you to make change.
