The owner, Nick, is an extremely nice guy who went out of his way to make sure he got to our small appliance installation timely. And he did so even though his employee was involved in an accident earlier in the day. I would highly recommend him if you want a courteous professional to do your work.

Bryan was courteous, professional and knowledgeable. He did a great job of finding and fixing the problem. In addition, he cleaned up after himself and his cost is reasonable. With all the work comes a 90 day guarantee. I would strongly recommend Motor City Appliance Repair for any of your repair needs. Bryan thanks for your service as a US Marine, it is truly appreciated and I wish you success in all your future endeavors.

We enjoyed having Kent and Betsy install doorwall and build our porch. Everything looks great. Kent makes sure he gets it right. One thing that I really liked about Kent he listened to us and helped build what we had in mind. While most other contractors that came out showed me how they would build it. And would completely dismiss our ideas as bad. Kent made it happen and it turned out even better than we had invisioned.

We hired Jeff to complete the wiring for a dishwasher and garbage disposal. We did not have an existing dishwasher and garbage disposal so the wiring was somewhat extensive. We originally planned to have another contractor install the appliances once the wiring was completed but Jeff was able to do that, as well. He was quick to respond to my original request and was able to come out and complete the job within a few days. He was very nice and professional and made a run to the local home improvement store when additional parts were needed to complete the job. His price was reasonable and I would consider him for future home improvement needs.

Jon responded to the ad quickly, when re-installing a door noted a problem. H noticed that a gap in the tile floor would show so he cut a piece of tile and installed this too- glad he made us aware of this and had a solution. Good at many projects.

Scott and his partner did a remodeling job for us. They did the demolition, then did the drywall, painted and added a tub surround and new sink vanity. They installed a new light fixture, too. Then, they put in a new ceiling in our kitchen using drywall, painting, and added a new light fixture. We would hire them again! They did a great job at a reasonable price. My olny suggestion is that they should change the name of their company. They do construction. My sister was concerned because the name says Scotty Mobile Repair. They are more of a construction company and I am sure that they can fix a mobile phone, but we were very pleased with the work they did on an old 1922 home.

I live in NC and my Mother lives in Monroe,MI. My Mother lives in an old house and desperately needed porch repair work done. I had tried to find someone to do the work to no avail. I found J&M Construction through Thumbtack. I got a quick response to my initial inquiry. He went to my Mother's and gave me a free and very reasonable estimate. As I live out of state I sent a deposit and once they received it he started wok. They kept me informed of progress all along the way. They were punctual and finished the job ahead of schedule. Everything was done very professionally and my Mother loves her new porches! They even sent me a picture for the finished job. I would highly recommend this company and if I could give them 10 stars they deserve it!!!

I found an over the range microwave that matched my appliances on sale at Home Depot. The problem was it was $99 for install but only if they were replacing an existing microwave and I had a range hood. I came on thumbtack and George submitted a bid. He was not only the best price he was timely, polite and very professional. I would definitely consider hiring George again. And I highly recommend his services.

Ken was able to come out to my house right away to take a look at the work I needed at no charge for an estimate. He quoted me a fair price for the work, and was able to provide a scheduled date. He then called and confirmed an earlier date he could take care of us and arrived as scheduled. He did a great job installing a bathroom fan with proper ventilation, and also installed a set of our bathroom faucets. The work was done very professionally, in a very clean fashion with extreme quality and expertise. The fair price he quoted is all that was charged. I am comfortable that I found a new handyman that we will continue to hire for a variety of repairs and future home improvements. I highly recommend contacting Ken for your home repairs.

I gave Greg a siding job and a small gutter repair job. He came out when he said he would, quoted the job, communicated what he would do and left the estimate in the mailbox. He was not the cheapest, but i went with him because of the fact that he understood what i wanted. and how i wanted it. he did a good job. I will hire him again for the next house that needs siding.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
