They were very responsive in getting back to me about the work to be done, Asked questions and showed interest in doing the job. They showed up on time and were pleasant to deal with and worked hard in removing 2 arbor vitae trees that had fallen down during the winter. Roots gave them a bit of a hard time but they persisted and got them out. Very professional and very reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Costa Pro is absolutely amazing they are so easy to work with and very professional, my Wife and I are so pleased with the custom pergola they built and installed on our patio my only regret is that I didn’t find them sooner, working with this company made me realize I was just wasting time trying to deal with other contractors , they are the type of company that makes sure the customer is satisfied every step of the way, the work they do is flawless, I can’t say enough about them, we will be using them again that’s for sure! Thank you Will,Sarah and crew for doing what you do....

Process was very easy, as Joe responded quickly to my search on Thumbtack. Had the installer Tom come out the next day for a quick estimate on a kitchen sink pipe repair/new faucet install, which was reasonably quoted for the work required. They were even able to squeeze me in the following day to complete the job, which I really appreciated. Tom was knowledgeable, very efficient, and took me through the repair steps as he completed them. I really apprecited the feedback provided from questions I had and his professionalism. Would highly recommend the Handyman Connection of Ann Arbor team.

Joe was wonderful to work with. He listened to how I wanted the pergola to look, then offered suggestions to make it look even better. Joe and his crew arrived on time, did excellent work and when the job was finished, everything was cleaned up so you would never even know they were there except for the beautiful pergola built.

Gamboas Construction INC just completed an eleven week project for us at our new house in Bloomfield Hills. They did all the excavation, sprinkler system, sod, planting, brick paver patios & retaining walls, stamp concrete, pergola, swimming pool, and outdoor kitchen / living room. The owners Paul Fox and Jose Gamboa came out 3 times to show us different options and spent countless hours with us before we signed a contract with them. We looked at 4 different companies. One company was more expensive and the other 3 were cheaper but Jose had the most knowledge and experience IMO. Jose answered every question / scenario we had with ease. They did what was best for us and not what was easiest for them / made them the most money. Other companies had hidden agendas. Gamboas Construction INC was the only company out of the 5 that could do all the work start to finish without contracting any of it out. They were a one stop shop. They told us it would take 12 weeks and they finished in 11. The other companies quoted the job @ 4-5 months. THEY HIT THE BUDGET WITHOUT ANY SURPRISES. Paul and Jose had perfect planning from the materials needed to possible problems that could arise. This was a first for us. They played basketball with our kids and fetch with the dogs on breaks. All of the employees were extremely efficient, polite, and very professional always keeping an emaculate workspace. They were always on time and it seemed like Paul and Jose’s phones never stopped ringing. They were telling us about many other jobs they had going while doing ours which showed their ability to multi task successfully. They even brought a few potential customers to check out our jobsite (with our permission). We had such a good experience that we asked them to finish our basement this winter. We will only hire Gamboas Construction INC from now on. Highly recommend to anyone in need they treated us like family !!!!!!!!!

Hired John to install 162 lockers in Ann Arbor. Price was fair. Work was first quality. He arrived on site when he said he would and worked until project was complete-about 1 week. Will definitely use him again. Robby Bruno Columbia Lockers

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
