Jessica trained our puppy at her house for a week. She listened to all of our concerns and worked on all of them (plus a few extras!). We got daily updates and a lot of compliments about our puppy. When our puppy came back she was a different puppy....she was so well behaved! When Jessica brought our puppy back she took time teaching us how to continue the training. Before her we were at the point of thinking we could not have this puppy anymore. Now we have a well behaved and super sweet puppy that we will love for a lifetime (I say that as she is cuddling on my lap and my young kids lap!)

Deb Nitz is EXCELLENT!!! She has walked our dog(who adores her). Deb, also, stayed w/ the dog, kitty, plants and house while my husband and I were away for almost 2 weeks. Whatever the animal's needs are , Deb went above and beyond to take care of our sweet babies. Our kitty has need of a "pumpkin concoction" for about 7pm @ night...no problem! Kitty came up and let Deb hold her...very unusual for our kitty. Deb walked and took the dog to the park, to play, run and socialize w/ some of the other park visitors!! (Always on a leash!) HAPPY, HAPPY PUPPY!!!! Lots of play time ! "Oh, by the way I did a little cleaning and laundry before you came home", she told us!!! Really, WHO does that?!? DEB NITZ...that's who! Lucy Burby, her reference to us, told me, "She sure does love her dogs!!" My 89 year-old Mom told me she was , "One of the nicest people she ever met!" My husband and I are very happy to recommend Deb Nitz and her pet skills (walking, pet sitting, socialized play, etc.) to any lucky pet. Trust that she will treat them w/ talent, care and love. We are extremely happy that we found Paula to take care of our babies! We have a chihuahua who is the "muscle" in the house. Paula won her over in 1 or 2 visits! That alone is HUGE for us! When we met Paula it was clear that we liked her warm personality right away. I highly recommend Hapi Pawz for your dog sitting needs!

Lisa did an amazing job watching my dog for one week at my house while I was traveling. She took extra time walking and playing with her twice a day and sent me a couple updates on how everything was going. Lisa not only cares about doing a good job but has a special love for animals. I definitely recommend hiring Lisa for pet sitting!

I never thought to look online to choose a house/pet sitter but I am so glad I did. My experience was great and I HIGHLY recommend The Animal Train to watch your furry or feathered friends. Hannah was so responsible and I instantly trusted that she and her team would take excellent care of my cat and chickens.... and they did. I have no complaints about the care the animals received. Everything went as planned and it is so nice to leave for vacation knowing that the house and the pets are in good hands. Thank you so much!

Peggy was always on time taking care of our cat Riley. He took to her right away. She is very kind and I can see why animals like her. We were gone three weeks and not once did we worry about Riley. She sent us pictures and let us know that he was okay. We will be hiring her again for all of our pet sitting needs!

Is your pet like another child in your family? If you answer yes, then when you go on a trip and have to find someone to take excellent care of your little dog or cat, then you need to call Lisa at Cass Lake Pet Services. I have an 11 year old toy poodle, who is very shy and picky. Lisa has been the perfect caretaker for him. She asks what the pet’s needs are and then goes beyond them when you are gone to make your pet feel comfortable. When I return from my trips, my dog,Sky is smiling. I have used Lisa several times now. I will continue to use CLPS every time I have to leave Sky at home alone for an extended period. Terri Dorsey and her Poodle, Sky

Frances is an awesome pet sitter, always exceeding your expectations. She genuinely cares about your pet as if it was her own. We highly recommend hiring Frances to care for your family dog or cat. It will be one of the best decisions you can make for the benefit of your beloved pet. We lost our dog, Bobby, last year. It was a heart wrenching experience for both of us, and we still miss him every day. During his final illness Frances checked with us regularly, and in the end we knew just how special Bobby was to Frances. Frances becomes more than a caregiver. From your pet's point of view Frances becomes as an extended member of your family.

She has comes off as a person with great integrity in character, which made it easier for me to trust my cat to be in her hands while I was away on a job training. I would say putting the care of your pet is her hands is not a great idea but also a smart choice!

Hannah is truly wonderful! She is a caring and knowledgeable professional who took great care of my cat while I was away. She offered advice to help ease my cat’s anxious biting tendencies, sent me regular updates with pictures, and even cleaned up after his messes. I would highly recommend her pet sitting or grooming services to anyone!

When my husband died, I needed someone to watch my dog, Boi-Boi, while I was at work 5 days a week. Thank God for Howie! He's close to home and takes care of my Boi like he was his own pet. I would recommend Howie to anyone who needs a short or long term care solution for their beloved pets.

Erin did an amazing job taking care of our little Gizmo. She went above and beyond our expectations as far as the extra time she spent with him and the constant contact she had with us as to how our dog was doing. This was the first time we had used a pet sitter and we could not have been more pleased. We plan to use her every time we go away and will recommend her to anyone needing a pet sitter.

Jennifer and her family are amazing. They took such good care of our pup. She was very proactive in sending us photos. It was like he was at summer camp, he had so much fun. He came back happy and healthy. I will definitely have him stay there again and highly recommend. If I could give more than five stars, I would.

Kathy checked in on our 2 cats a couple times while we were out of town. She fed them, cleaned their boxes, and tried to coax the shy one out from under the bed with treats. She went above and beyond! Kathy is very reliable and trustworthy and exactly the person I was looking for. We couldn't be more pleased!!

I wish I could do 4.5 stars. I chose 4 because communication leading up to the sit was a little mixed-up, there were last minute changes to the sitters being used, and they don't do late night potty visits, so I had to enlist a neighbor to run over and do that. However, they took wonderful care of my very elderly dog and cat. We were gone for 3 days/2 nights and with the text/photo updates I felt very reassured that they were fine. I would not hesitate to recommend them and will definitely use this service again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

My 7 year old male cat does not "play well with other" pain first meeting. He is declawed and fixed and I have NEVER had a problem with him not using the litter box or spraying. He chews on things (especially electronic wires), this is why I can't leave him by himself when I go on vacation.
