Ruth is amazing! I am so glad that I hired her to be my personal trainer. She really knows her stuff. It's only been 2 weeks and 2 days since we started and I've already lost 7 lbs. She keeps workouts exciting by constantly introducing new, effective exercises. I felt very comfortable with her from day one. She's very sweet, funny, caring, and understanding. She really cares about her clients and will go out of her way to meet you at a location that is convenient to you. I look forward to my workouts with Ruth and I'm so excited to see my future results. I've worked with one other trainer before and Ruth is 110% better than my previous experience. She's the best!

5 years ago, weighing in at 378lbs, and a lack of motivation/ determination to do anything I decided to take my life back. The one constant thing in all this has been my personal trainer/ life coach Pete Haugabook. His unique meal plans, unmatched knowledge to weight lifting/ nutrition, and his ability to motivate makes him the best at what he does. To me, he’s not a trainer, he’s a friend. His meal plans won’t break the bank, and are extremely manageable. With his help, I have lost over 100lbs and have made fitness not only a routine, but a way of life.. Pete literally saved my life, and for that, I will always be grateful!

I’ve been working with GBG strength for almost 2 months. And I’ve lost weight and gained some muscle, he has pushed me to see my full ability in what I can do in the gym and outside of the gym with encouraging words. He has also helped me finically with each session; it was my first time reaching out for a personal trainer and he has made it so easy and comfortable!

Mary is a fantastic trainer. She pushes her clients in ways that work for them. Each client is an individual. I love being able to go to her home for personal training. It's so much better than a gym. I would recommend Mary to anyone looking for a truly personal training experience.

Mr. Paul Barr was my high school cross country coach for the past two years. At every practice he was always early. He taught the team how respect themselves as athletes and respect their bodies. He is beyond reliable and is well informed about physical and mental health. He saw potential in everyone, and made sure to highlight their skills in order for them to be their best. Paul is a great mentor and friend. He is willing to do anything to make sure you are able to give your all. I was considering running for university, and he was there for me. He believed that I could do it; he took time out of his personal life to make a running schedule and to coach me. He never once told me that I was incapable of doing anything. Paul is an all around great person; he is beyond reliable and responsible, he is organized, and he is willing to give 110% percent to ensure that you are physically and mentally healthy.

It is my pleasure to recommend Carlos of Fit For Life as a highly skilled personal trainer. I have worked with Carlos three sessions/week for the past five months, during which I have come to know him both as a professional and an individual. When I started working with Carlos, I was a true fitness novice. Having been a dancer for years, my fitness knowledge did not extend beyond some basic yoga and Pilates know-how. Over the course of our time together, Carlos has been an excellent mentor. His primary focus has not been to produce short-term results, but to give me the skills and knowledge that I will need to be my own fitness advocate for life. He has focused heavily on teaching me proper form, alignment and, above all else, safety. In addition to being a highly talented and knowledgeable professional, Carlos is also a pleasure to work with. He’s caring, sincere, and has a great sense of humor - which can be very helpful when you’re on your 35th sit-up in a set of 50! He has guided me to be more patient with myself and to respect not only my physical limitations, but also the mental challenges we sometimes face when working toward our fitness goals. I highly recommend that you give Carlos and Fit for Life a try!

I have never written an online review before, but after reading Leslie G.'s comments, I just had to speak up. I have been working with Brent for more than three years and can't recommend him highly enough. He is knowledgeable, professional and very, very good at what he does. He has helped me recalibrate my body completely. I am stronger, have no pain, and feel better than I ever have. Brent is very clear about his credentials: A BS in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Michigan State University, and certifications in personal training, senior fitness, nutrition and sports nutrition. Certificates are posted in his studio. But I don't imagine Leslie saw those certificates, because I'm sure she never stepped foot in the studio. How do I know that? The $70 per-hour fee is for clients who come to him. If you ask Brent to come to your home, the higher fee applies. When I began working with Brent, he made it very clear that everything he does is tailored completely to the individual under one-on-one supervision. No mirrors, no machines, no pushing to the point of pain. He has developed his own, proprietary method that is very different from what you would find from a typical personal trainer in a gym. His overarching concern is wellness and functionality, calibrating your body so the muscles work properly and are aligned correctly. Body image and weight loss are secondary. His methodology is sound and effective. Quick to debunk the latest fitness trends, Brent will give you complete, academic explanations about everything he does if you ask him. I am a curious journalist so I always ask, and that is why I know exactly why he recommends heat-only for muscle soreness. Heat, I have learned from Brent, increases blood flow and nutrient exchange, promoting healing. Ice is used to reduce swelling and dampen pain. This can be warranted when you have a major injury and swelling, but ice will also prevent blood flow and the corresponding nutrient exchange, which makes healing take longer. I am quite sure that if Leslie is this unhappy after only three weeks, she was looking for something different than what Brent provides. And that is fair enough. I just want to make sure that other people who are looking for a knowledgeable, effective trainer don't discount Brent based on one malicious review.

I don't even know where to start. Dan changed my life. He has been my trainer/coach since March of this year. I'm his furthest client, I live in Texas, I wish I lived closer to him. I lost 40 pounds in 6 months WITHOUT GOING TO THE GYM nor doing any sort of exercise. It was so hard at first, with the cravings. My body was fighting me each day, it was hard. Dan helped me get through it all. Looking back, 8 months later it was all worth it. I workout now, go to the gym 2x a day 6 days a week, I get to eat burgers on my leg day, I get to have donuts 2x a week, I worked so hard to get my metabolism to work the way it does now to eat what I am able to eat. Dan is so smart, he knows how the human body works that is what makes me him different from other trainers. I can go on and on about Dan, but I rather you see for yourself how amazing he is.

Evan is a outstanding personal trainer he taught me so many things and taught me so much about how to pay attention to what muscles I was working and how lowering your weight or increasing your weight would emphasize on the muscle that you were trying to work out because so many times I was using higher weight and was not feeling the muscle that I was supposed to begir toward and still to this day I have taken that knowledge and have put it toward my workout still to this day I had great results with him and I recommend him to any and everyone thank you so much Evan you're awesome

I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Tim Miles and his professionalism. I was a bit nervous about going for hypnosis, but once I had my new client session, I saw how beneficial working with Tim would be. He is honest, direct, kind, and compassionate about life's woes. I have signed up for my 2nd appt in another week, but only because I could feel a real difference just after 1 session, not because Tim suggested (or pushed) it. He seems to be really concerned about people getting help.

TMK Peak Fitness is the total package. I have been a client for over 5 years. The training provided by Troy Kelley is challenging and innovative, with an emphasis on the "personal" aspect of training. His workouts are never repetitive or boring. Troy is client specific, adept at determining what the client needs to achieve their own particular goal (s) and he uses his many years of experience to continually grow and improve as a personal trainer.

About

I work as a personal development coach, also known as life coach, and am a psychic medium. These two unique areas also work well together to bring each of my clients a specialized look at their lives. As far as coaching goes, I specialize in mapping out steps for success with any problem that you may be dealing with. I set a weekly follow up to ensure your success all along the way. As a psychic, that is just what it says. I do not use tricks, props, or scare tactics; I simply relay the information to you in as clear a way as possible. I strive on the success and happiness of my clients. I respect their privacy and only usually work via word of mouth. If you are not happy with me and don't recommend, then I don't work! When working with me, in either field, your happiness and success is a guarantee!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
