First plumber came within a week. Was very punctual, took time to look at what I needed done. Even came back the next day to follow up since we didn’t have all the parts the day before. He and his son were a great team and definitely will stay on my referral list for great plumbers

He's more of a handyman than a full service plumber (for example, he doesn't do clogged drains). But he was prompt, friendly and capable.

Over the past 12 months the overflow pan in my Heat Pump closet in my high rise unit was over flowing and filling up with water rendering the service of my A/C useless. Several heating & cooling tech had been to my house several time trying to fix my unit. Several plumbers have also tried to to no avail. Plumbing Professor came when they said they would. On time, every time. They came back, at no charge, (like he said he would) when the problem repeated itself. This is unheard of before now. It is still too soon to know if what they did will solve the problem, but they gave me the confidence to believe the problem is corrected. If not, a suggested remedy will be with the heat pump installers. I have never been more satisfied with any technician before. In fact, this is the very 1st review I have ever written. They were simply outstanding.

After a week of calling plumbers to repair an emergency issue at my mother’s trailer, I connected with Scott. Within 30 minutes, he was at the property and identified the problem. In less than 24 hours from his initial visit, my disabled mother had water again. I would recommend Scott HIGHLY. He was professional, affordable and compassionate to our problem. Do not hesitate to hire him!

A friend referred D.C. when I recently moved. He has installed new gas lines for appliances, new lock sets, a few light fixtures, corrected plumbing issues and hung our tv on the wall. We feel the advantage was having one guy who corrected so many pesky problems instead of hiring a plumber, electrician and carpenter at a much higher price. In the end, the work was the same quality and we saved a ton of money.

Very prompt and courteous. He identified the problem with formidable knowledge of his trade, and knew exactly what needed to be done. He explained exactly what the problem was and how he fixed it so I can better understand what had happened. All in all, the perfect experience everyone hopes for when calling a plumber.

The problem wasn't even what I thought it was. The plumber Marc came out the same night and found the problem and fixed it and it didn't cost as much as I thought it was going to. He was very reasonable.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

        • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
        • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
        • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
